On domestic policy, I have no problem with the author. However, he sounds out to lunch on foreign policy, complaining about Iraq twice and ignoring Afghanistan and terrorism.

I see today will not be the day John Derbyshire decided to start saying something intelligent.

Yes, there are several very good reasons to support Paul. He’s quite right on a lot of issues.
However, there are several better reasons not to support him, and, alas, it’s a package deal.

You can take the eccentric out of England and you can probably make him drink but the horse may not lead you to water.

This is hardly surprising. Ever since he formally renounced Christianity in an earlier column, it was clear that Derbyshire had utterly lost the plot.
Not that there wasn't substantial evidence of that earlier.
He had written columns disparaging Bible-believers before that one.

I don’t know, he’s making a lot of sense... Ron Paul, Ron Paul, Ron Paul.....
ARRGGH ! Wow. Sorry, I woke up.
How we got where we are is one thing, reducing it is fine, but it’s certainly another problem with which we all must deal.
A President, regardless of which one, will not be able to simply wave his hand and fire thousands of people (Ok, Reagan did it with the ATC strike, but he had a good reason) — but do you think Ron Paul will FIRE the IRS? No.
Will he FIRE the Social Security Administration? No.
Do you think he will fire the idiots and miscreants that DO work in various agencies throughout the country whose very existence is the ban of all free people (for clarity, I am talking about some of these moronic middle managers who find themselves in a position of trust, and having money and power and who flaunt it, spend it, use it, and cheat tax payers out of more, and can’t be fired ANYWAY!) NO!
Is Ron Paul going to push the NASA space program to go to Mars? NO.
Is Ron Paul actually going to close the border? HELL NO, not if he is willing to “talk” to our enemies.

Ron Paul believes that America only needs a submarine to defend her.
Sure, the government would shrink under a Ron Paul administration (thankfully will never happen).
The defense community in the United States after Ron Paul would get finished with it would resemble the Finish Army.
There would not be much left to the Republic by that time anyway.

Derb is also of the belief that the ME would be much more stable without Israel.
Birds of a feather!

I like Derbyshire on a lot of subjects and disagree with him on others. Your post summed up my feelings on Paul well.

Derbyshire is right. Most of the candidates have no interest in limited government, and Washington is now a bloated and corrupt imperial city, a standing affront to the principles of Reaganism.
We will know we have had successful conservative governance when the DC suburbs start experiening a deep and prolonged population decline.

Derbyshire is a militant atheist, who having understanding of the power of religion, dismisses Islamism. No wonder he like Paul.
Derb is a tool on everything but math and immigration.

True enough. But what value will there be in being issued school vouchers when the only schools we will have to choose from are madrassas?

Will he fire the Dept. of Education?

If you really think a bunch of ignorant and primitive Third World types can take over America, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.
