Mormons aren't Christians ...
... and other thoughts on religion and politics sure to get your blood boiling
Herewith, my views on religion and the politics of the present moment, with something to offend just about everyone:
1. Mormons aren't Christians. I don't mean that as a criticism, only as a descriptive phrase. When Mormons claim Jesus Christ as their savior, there's no reason to doubt their sincerity and good will, or even to deny that they are in some way followers of Christ. Yet Mormonism rejects foundational doctrines of traditional Christian orthodoxy, such that it is impossible to reconcile with normative Christianity.
2. Anyway, the Latter-day Saints church teaches that all other Christian churches are apostate. A heretic is someone who rejects one or more doctrines of religion, but an apostate is someone who has rejected the religion entirely. How is it, exactly, that you can get mad when people you regard as apostates consider you to be ... apostate? How does that work?
3. Theologically, this is a big deal. But politically, so what? Mormons vote like Southern Baptists and come down on the same side of most issues of public morality like conservative Christians do. If you're a socially conservative lawmaker, wouldn't you rather have a Mormon in your legislative foxhole than a Kennedy-style cafeteria Catholic or progressive mainline Protestant? I'm no Romney fan, but is there really no meaningful political difference between Good-Mormon Mitt and Bad-Catholic Rudy, to say nothing of Liberal-Protestant Hillary?
4. There are plenty of good reasons for conservative Christians not to vote for Mr. Romney, but his religious beliefs are not among them. Do Christians want to be in the position of rejecting a candidate whose political views and moral values they agree with, solely because they don't like his religion?

Correct. It went off course by merging with the Roman Empire.
agree.
Voters certainly can. Hell will freeze over before I vote for a baptist!

Are any of "us" (non-Mormons) right enough to join you in your most completely right sense?
If "we" are correct in any of our creeds, but not in agreement with your most important creeds will we still be your servants in the life to come?
This is wrong. There are scores of them.
But him together with all the other non-adopted sons and daughters do.
On that basis, all Muslims are Christians.
Isdaac Asimov was a brilliant and highly productive writer. He was also a very bitter atheist, because he was so reluctant to accept that there was anything higher than human beings.
Muslims' religion is based on the teaching of Muhammad. Jesus, called Isa is a minor prophet, not devine, and not the son of a virgin or of God. Islam is in no way based on the teachings of Christ.
“He was also a very bitter atheist”
Not bitter at all and a seeker, not n atheist. Perhaps the greatest mind of our time. His guide to Shakespear was also unbelievably great.
A strange way to describe the largest denomination in America.
BTTT again.
As far as I know, in 1854 the Immaculate Conception of Mary was proclaimed, and in 1950 the Assumption of Mary was proclaimed, everything else of significance was known far earlier. This includes the perpetual virginity of Mary and the Immaculate Conception of Christ, both of which have been known since Creedal times.
The poster was mocking other faiths. Just dishing it in return.
If you can point to a verse in the bible that refers to Mary as perpetually a virgin, I will accept it. Unfortunately you can not because it doesn’t exist. for some reason, around the 4th century, Church leaders started to rebel against the mother of Jesus having sex with her husband.
It could be because God himself forbid adultery. It could be that Joseph was a Jew. There is no sin in sex with your husband.
So, Mary became “Queen of Heaven” and a perpetual virgin 400 years after the crucifixion. She was exempted from original sin in 1854, and she was granted assumption into heaven in 1950. Where is this in the Bible?
Why are you so sure that the Mormons can’t be right, when your religion has changed so much without Biblical evidence?
By the same standards we've always used to decide right from wrong - human devised standards which came about to allow human societies to form and function without imploding. It's likely that we can even do a better job of devising such standards than the iron-age desert dwellers who created the major religions of the West.
There is a great deal of hubris in your statement, my friend. Assuming your first statement to be correct, what makes you think that we can improve in a generation or two what our species has taken millenia to figure out via cultural evolution?

That essentially is a term used for dealing with heretics. Inside the Church the usage is different. See wikipedia:
When in dialogue with other Christians, the Church uses either "Catholic Church" or, if this term is not acceptable to the partner in dialogue, "Roman Catholic Church".[16] Except in such dialogue, the Church most commonly refers to itself as "the Church", and uses "the Catholic Church" far less commonly, and "the Roman Catholic Church" extremely rarely.[17] The Catechism of the Catholic Church is an example: in it, "the Church" appears many hundreds of times, compared to 24 uses of "the Catholic Church" (including the title of the book) and no use of the term "the Roman Catholic Church".
There is, of course, no need whatsoever to go to a church building to receive communion. My own parish, when it was first established, had Mass in a community building in our development. The Pope frequently has Mass in large stadiums or out of doors, and this is frequently done in the Church. Holy communion is often received outside of Mass, in Hospitals and nursing homes, and even at the believer's homes, in certain cases, usually of illness.
Here is Biblical proof that Mary and Joseph had other children younger than Our Lord. [Psalm 69:8-9] I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children. "For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up"; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.
His disciples recalled this scripture here: [John 2:15-17] And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables; And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise. And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
