State Blocks Muslim Celebration Involving Animal Slaughter

Smithfield — A judge has told a Johnston County farmer that he cannot open his farm to Muslim families planning to slaughter lambs as part of an annual religious celebration.

The judge issued a 10-day injunction Friday, meaning that about 250 Muslim families in Wake County will have to make other arrangements for slaughtering lambs they bought in advance of the three-day Festival of the Sacrifice, which begins on Wednesday.

Kenneth and Eddie Rowe have tangled before with the state over the mass slaughter of lambs on their 300-acre farm. They said they have been conducting the slaughtering in their 80x100 barn for the past six years.

In 2005, the Rowes preserved their right to carry on the tradition. The state Department of Agriculture fined them $10,000 for the practice the same year, but the Rowes have not yet paid it.

>>>Does Krogers sell live pigs for me to slaughter at my local mosque?

If you would like to try that, I promise to get you the pig.

Who are you to dictate how others consume their food?

I agree. Is the Judges gonna say we can not kill the old red rooster when she comes around the mountain. How about a turkey on Thanksgiving. Let them kill and eat. I have no problem with this.

I agree. I kill and butcher animals on my property all the time. Both wild and domestic animals.

Nobody is going to tell me to stop butchering animals on my land!

At the risk of siding with the Moslems, why aren’t they allowed to slaughter lambs?

I'm glad you posted that - I was thinking the same thing, but didn't want to sound pro-Muzzie...

My thoughts too, sounds like these regulations are written by the slaughter house lobbyists.

We’re dealing with a mindset that sees little difference between slaughtering lambs and killing their own daughters! Death is at it’s core. Islam is death. Fight it wherever, and however you find it.

No kidding. Why is it that every time I hear something about Islam, it's involved with someone or something being killed?

I might be nuts, but I don’t make my living slaughtering baby animals and bragging about it. One of the things I love about Free Republic is the elevated level of dialog and reason everyone brings to the discussions. And you might want to take Duncan Hunter’s name off of your ID, because it does not do his cause any good to go around calling his other supporters “nuts.”

Invoke Duncan Hunter's name all you want. Invoke God's name if you will feel mightier. You are still nuts for saying,

"they [Muslims] should return to their natal and ancestral hell countries and get the hell out of here."

I think the problem isn’t slaughtering one lamb on one’s private property (altho that may be illegal, I don’t know). I think the issue here is that slaughtering mass numbers of animals, especially since they bleed them to death, is unsanitary at the facility as it currently is. Now, I have no idea if this is correct or not, but it seems to me that many people arguing here are not arguing the actual points which would be: Is it unsanitary as it is done now and is it the government’s business to regulate these things.

Exactly. God sacrificed a lamb for us, and that was that.

There was a case in Florida a couple of years ago where the court found that — Santeria practitioners, I think — were free to make animal sacrifices. IIRC, the thinking was “Priests, farmers, butchers, what’s the difference? The critter ends up dead.” I have to say, I agree.

Can we get that judge to extend his order to coyotes and wolves, too?

What they do to lambs (And grown sheep, calves, and other livestock) is even more inhumane.
