Smithfield A judge has told a Johnston County farmer that he cannot open his farm to Muslim families planning to slaughter lambs as part of an annual religious celebration.
The judge issued a 10-day injunction Friday, meaning that about 250 Muslim families in Wake County will have to make other arrangements for slaughtering lambs they bought in advance of the three-day Festival of the Sacrifice, which begins on Wednesday.
Kenneth and Eddie Rowe have tangled before with the state over the mass slaughter of lambs on their 300-acre farm. They said they have been conducting the slaughtering in their 80x100 barn for the past six years.
In 2005, the Rowes preserved their right to carry on the tradition. The state Department of Agriculture fined them $10,000 for the practice the same year, but the Rowes have not yet paid it.

I know many families who “sacrifice” an animal every year. Will I be outlawed from raising, slaughtering and cooking my Thanksgiving turkey next?
I agree with Jeff and Clemenza on this one. I don’t think a judge should tell folks they can’t slaughter animals for food on their property, unless it is a health hazard or something.
PETA would love this.
Exactly.
Whatif I want to kill a deer on my property, and I don’t have a slaughterhouse?
Do you eat meat? You know the stuff that is in the shiny packages in the grocery store?
Lots of kids were raised on farms where they kill animals for food, and they aren’t twisted.
“God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac to test his faith, so he tied him to the alter but an angel stopped him before he did anything. Afterwards, he found a ram caught in the bushes to sacrifice instead.
Thats what I was referring to.”
Abraham was a Christian? How prescient of him!
If it is like our state, one has to build a separate facility to slaughter differant things. Chickens are slaughtered in a different building than beef for example.
In this area the Moslums have van trucks that have a hole in the floor of the bed. They park over a sewer and kill the animals and bleed them over the sewer. No one knows until the mess hits the treatment plant.
Bloodsport - and a creepy one at that.
This is insane. The sacrifice is not torture. The meat is eaten. I’ve never, nor will I blocked sales of lambs on my site and they were bought for this celebration.
Cowards... you called it...

So you don’t support eating lamb?
Has the judge issued an injunction against all slaughter houses in the area?
This has nothing to do with Muslim or any other religion. This has to do with a judge that is a moron.
You are nuts
The interesting thing is that the traditional and relatively humane Middle Eastern (Arab and Jewish) killing of lambs gets opposition - while the completely inhumane and utterly unacceptable Islamic beheading of “infidels” is just accepted as a cute cultural custom.
This ruling is going to ban the private slaughter of animals on people’s property. That will mean that small and medium size farms won’t be able to sell meat. This was planned in the presentation of NAIS while people were fighting the registration of their premises. This ruling is being hidden behind Islam.
