Executive Order: Closing of Executive Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government on Monday, December 24, 2007
By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered as follows:
Section 1. All executive branch departments and agencies of the Federal Government shall be closed and their employees excused from duty on Monday, December 24, 2007, the day before Christmas Day, except as provided in section 2 below.
Sec. 2. The heads of executive branch departments and agencies may determine that certain offices and installations of their organizations, or parts thereof, must remain open and that certain employees must report for duty on December 24, 2007, for reasons of national security or defense or other public need.
Sec. 3. Monday, December 24, 2007, shall be considered as falling within the scope of Executive Order 11582 of February 11, 1971, and of 5 U.S.C. 5546 and 6103(b) and other similar statutes insofar as they relate to the pay and leave of employees of the United States.
GEORGE W. BUSH
THE WHITE HOUSE,
December 6, 2007.
I enjoy the work I do for DOD--that is one reason I stay...job security is another. Sorry you resent the term "Federal Employee", and that you seem to have had bad experiences with CIVIL SERVANTS.
Merry Christmas, and Thank You for your service. Welcome Home.
It would be nice if "you the people" would just stay home that day and not flood the malls and other stores so "we the folks" could just stay home also.
Cool! 8 and 1/2 here...(the 1/2 is Dec 31)
"With pay providing you have annual leave accrued to cover 8 hours. If not, you dont get paid and the bosses are pissed that you didnt have 8 hours saved up."
That would be if it was a "liberal leave" policy, this is an administrative holiday instead.
I’m in the property management business. My boss issued a memo last week declaring December 24th as a “day off” on him. There is always a maintenance person on call to change lightbulbs, respond to floods, etc.
We all personally thanked the boss....he’s a good guy!
Pakistan also recognizes Christmas.
“”Federal Employees don’t have to work December 24”””
like they work anyway.....
“””Federal Employees don’t have to work December 24”””
so I guess its just like the other 364 days....
LOL, I’m crackin myself up over here.
This only the helps the contractors (like me), 99% of Federal Employees wouldn’t be there anyway.
Well, I guess they get to save a day of leave - now they’ll only have 13^8 days left per employee.
What many here don’t grasp is that the furlough notices are probably going out that same day, so it isn’t a very Merry XMAS this year for gov’t employees, thanks to folks who can’t politic very well to a schedule.
WRT leave, I know between layoffs, reserve duty, and minimum work experience accrued before one could take a XMAS vacation to see relatives in a different state, I’ve basically worked for 25 years with only 3 vacations, all of which happened to coincide with layoffs from contract completion or corporate downsizing, or the government running out of money. Vacations without pay aren’t fun when there isn’t a sure job waiting after the holiday and all indictions are that you’ve been screwed out of retirement pay.
IMHO, we are approaching a window of vulnerability between now and 3 months into the next Presidency. Many forces are deployed or burned out, Congress still hasn’t funded DoD for the full year, the political squabbles boil down to adding a trailer to promote a homosexual agenda, and a strong leader in the conservative front promotes a cult to Christianity with political guidance strategizing that those who know the truth about Christ won’t vote for him anyways, but those who don’t really know the truth might be won over to support him by a heartfelt strong speech, and they probably have been.
One thing I am very grateful for this XMAS season is that God in this age of grace, doesn’t simply slap the crap out of the US. Not because of those who don’t know him, but because of those who do know him and really fail to remain in fellowship with Him, but try to build world empires without any agape love for their fellow man and building their paradise independent of faith alone in Christ alone. For this I am indeed very thankful and will enjoy taking that extra holiday as a graceful opportunity worshipping Him in simple faith alone through Christ alone. God Bless our President and may we as a nation return to Him on His grounds.
Im essential and will be working!
Or any other marxist progressive leftist controlled organization is just plain wrong who are of the many sheep of the blind leading the blind and are falling into a ditch.
As for freedom loving conservatives and Christ worshiping Christians; have a very Merry Christmas.
God rest ye merry gentlemen, let nothing you dismay, remember Christ our Saviour was born on Christmas day;
to save us all from Satan’s power when we had gone astray,
oh. tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy!
If I want to stay home on the 24th, my company requires us to take the vacation day. FWIW, we support the California DOT which will be 99% off that day.
So, I'll spend the 24th at the office, FReeping!
“We, the little people, have to work that day. Who else is going to pay the chosen ones their outrageous salaries? Give me a break. Im so disgusted anymore with Washington. Fat a$$ hogs living off the scraps of the little people. Their day of reckoning will come someday and not too soon.”
I’ll keep this in mind the next time I am trying to issue a weather forecast to protect YOUR life and property.
I’m not sure where you get “most” of the people being off, but it would make a good poll. It’s not a benefit where I work, but it’s so slow, they’ll be asking for volunteers to take unpaid time off.
“that’s going to piss off that athiest guy in california.”
and it’s going to piss off the brilliant, intellectual giants who say that Christians are just a bunch of supersitious pagan revelers who pay no heed to the reason for the celebrations. (they hide behind religion and then get their “jollies” by denigrating Christians and Christianity; hypocritical bullies.)
(kudos to the president; may he piss off alot of them and may they seethe and stomp their feet in public in protest.)
Most forecasters I know can’t even get yesterdays forecast right.
I’ve done contracting work off and on for federal government. Over the years I became acquainted with two different individuals who did little work. One guy plays solitaire all day long and another guy reads the newspaper and plays the stock market all day.
I even asked the newspaper reader if he was concerned about getting fired. His direct answer? “I’m a Vietnam-era veteran and minority. I’m the last guy they’ll ever fire.”
At last count, roughly half the country.
How depressing.
