Illegals-law challenge rejected By Seth McLaughlin December 1, 2007 Virginia Attorney General Robert F. McDonnell -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A federal judge yesterday threw out a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Prince William County's [Va.] new ordinance denying services to illegal aliens. Judge James C. Cacheris said during a brief hearing at U.S. District Court in Alexandria that the plaintiffs lacked standing to challenge the resolution passed earlier this year by the Prince William Board of County Supervisors. Judge Cacheris said he will issue a written ruling at a later time detailing his decision. The Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund filed the lawsuit last month on behalf of plaintiffs who included illegal aliens and the Woodbridge Workers Committee, an organization of day laborers in Prince William County. But county attorneys argued that the plaintiffs could not demonstrate they had suffered any harm under the measures, which have not been fully implemented. "This is a big win," said Corey Stewart, chairman of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors. "This is the best shot that some of the best litigators in the country can throw at our resolution against illegal immigration. I think that is very telling." Mr. Stewart, a Republican, said the decision would encourage other localities to follow Prince William"s lead. "We think this will give hope to communities all across the country that there is something legally defensible that a locality can do to crack down on the effects of illegal immigration," Mr. Stewart said. "I think that communities all across the commonwealth are going to adopt similar resolutions cracking down on illegal immigration. And I don"t think it stops at the Virginia border. You are going to see localities across the nation adopting similar resolutions."

That’s what the states are suppose to be doing. However, more to the point; it needs to be the people, you and me. People, in my younger days, such as my father and grandfather wouldn’t dream of letting government be it state or federal or whatever form interfere in their lives period.

You’re getting me homesick for Harrisonburg now (JMU ‘87). A bad day on top of Reddish Knob beats a good day most anywhere else. I love the Shenendoah.
Good for Prince William County. Nice to know that somebody up there isn’t taking this lying down.

I'm in Alabama now (God give me strength LOL), and I'd like to move back somewhere along the I-81 corridor between, oh, say, Strasburg and Winchester. But the wife wants to stay somewhere along the north end of I-77, and split the difference (her family is down here, mine is in Western Maryland). That would be all well and good for me - getting out of this gray, boring, mono-seasonal swamp is a personal goal akin to being crowned king, but I'm looking at it from a career standpoint. As long as I have a reasonable commute (I'm in IT and am on the road all day, anyhoo), I don't need to live as close to DC as I did for fifteen years. But, you have to be within shouting distance of a major IT hub to have any sort of career (mind you, I said career - not
job) security. Further, this is not my environment. I
like snow. I
like driving through the mountains and seeing the maples and oaks afire with color in October. I
like wading into a clear stream and pulling fat rainbows out of knee-deep pools. The missus, on the other hand, thinks more with her glands than her synapses. Where she wants to relocate is totally incompatible with where I'd be able to continue my career. And she does so for reasons that can easily be cut to ribbons with the razor-blade edge of logic.
She thinks she won the battle. So be it. Let her. She's lost the war.

Good to hear you’re returing. We need you. We have people moving into Vriginia from California (retirees among them) as well as all the immigrants (legal and illegal) and cross-overs from Maryland who are bringing their liberal voting records with them. Hurry back!

"It is a sad, sad scenario here within the Beltway, where large areas of America have been turned into Third World hell holes."
...and a lot of them work at the Fairfax Government Center. Whenever I go there, I feel like the foreigner. Fairfax is not close to the same place it was even 10 years ago.
