You’re getting me homesick for Harrisonburg now (JMU ‘87). A bad day on top of Reddish Knob beats a good day most anywhere else. I love the Shenendoah.

Good for Prince William County. Nice to know that somebody up there isn’t taking this lying down.

I'm in Alabama now (God give me strength LOL), and I'd like to move back somewhere along the I-81 corridor between, oh, say, Strasburg and Winchester. But the wife wants to stay somewhere along the north end of I-77, and split the difference (her family is down here, mine is in Western Maryland). That would be all well and good for me - getting out of this gray, boring, mono-seasonal swamp is a personal goal akin to being crowned king, but I'm looking at it from a career standpoint. As long as I have a reasonable commute (I'm in IT and am on the road all day, anyhoo), I don't need to live as close to DC as I did for fifteen years. But, you have to be within shouting distance of a major IT hub to have any sort of career (mind you, I said career - not job) security. Further, this is not my environment. I like snow. I like driving through the mountains and seeing the maples and oaks afire with color in October. I like wading into a clear stream and pulling fat rainbows out of knee-deep pools. The missus, on the other hand, thinks more with her glands than her synapses. Where she wants to relocate is totally incompatible with where I'd be able to continue my career. And she does so for reasons that can easily be cut to ribbons with the razor-blade edge of logic.

She thinks she won the battle. So be it. Let her. She's lost the war.
