Hyde had a very difficult job to perform. May he rest in peace.

A true Statesman!
At the Impeachment Dinner, I remember just looking at him and thinking —”What a great and brave man”. God bless and rest his soul.

A true champion in every sense of the word. It is a shame he enjoyed such a brief retirement before passing but he is one of the few congressmen who truly made a difference and whose legacy will be remembered for generations to come. My condolences to his family and prayers to all who mourn this loss. We will see him in Heaven.

God bless him. May his tireless work for the rights of the unborn blot out any of his other failings in the eyes of Almighty God.

You shall be missed, Henry Hyde. Thank you for your service and fight for the civil rights of the preborn.

SLEEP softly
eagle forgotten
under the stone.
Time has its way with you there, and the clay has its own.
We have buried him now, thought your foes, and in secret rejoiced.
They made a brave show of their mourning, their hatred unvoiced.
They had snarled at you, barked at you, foamed at you, day after day.
Now you were ended. They praised you
and laid you away.
The others, that mourned you in silence and terror and truth,
The widow bereft of her crust, and the boy without youth,
The mocked and the scorned and the wounded, the lame and the poor,
That should have remembered forever,
remember no more.
Where are those lovers of yours, on what name do they call,
The lost, that in armies wept over your funeral pall?
They call on the names of a hundred high-valiant ones,
A hundred white eagles have risen, the sons of your sons.
The zeal in their wings is a zeal that your dreaming began,
The valor that wore out your soul in the service of man.
Sleep softly
eagle forgotten
under the stone.
Time has its way with you there, and the clay has its own.
Sleep on, O brave-hearted, O wise man that kindled the flame
To live in mankind is far more than to live in a name,
To live in mankind, far, far more than to live in a name!
- Vachel Lindsay

At the Impeachment Dinner, I remember just looking at him and thinking What a great and brave man. God bless and rest his soul.Indeed. Yet I watched with dismay as he went from being everybody's hero for leading the charge on impeachment to being called every name in the book for co-sponsoring an assest forfeiture reform bill with Henry Waxman in the span of just a few weeks.

Wow. Over 110 posts from ultra conservative freepers paying homage to the man. I don't know anything about his work to preserve the lives of unborn children, but I'm pretty certain that the late Mr. Hyde never saw a gun grab he didn't just love. I hate to speak ill of the dead, but let us not forget he was still flesh and blood and had feet of clay. The right to lifers may have seen him as Dr. Jekyll. But for Sara Brady he was an effective Mr. Hyde inside her opponents (pro 2nd Amendment Republicans) perimeter. Please don't flame me for this observation.

He had a long and productive career in politics. He did a good job for us during the impeachment proceedings and took a lot of crap because of it.
