Why has Mike Huckabee turned to something akin to the plague by some on FR?
FR postings | November 28, 2007 | Dane

It's amazing, Mike Huckabee is one of the few politicians who would give the time of day to FR,

Gov. Huckabee's Thank you Letter to FReeper

and yet by some on FR they in mindless hyperbolic posts basically compare him to the plague.

JMO, some FReepers prove the axioms of "fair weather friends" and "no good deed goes unpunished" and also "watch your back", very true.

Yep, as I mentioned in post #288, just more "compassionate conservatism" nonsense. One would think the country would've had enough of that by now.

Slashing the welfare state (and bloated gov't in general) and protecting the borders would be mighty refreshing.

Okay then your position is that W is a RINO, Huckabee is a RINO, and by your definition then Reagan who gave amnesty in the ‘80’s also was a RINO. I guess by your standard we have not had a true, pure, bonified redstate Republican in the office of the presidency since, well, forever.

Good thing we don’t all have to be haters to be conservatives.

Huckabee does acknowledge mistakes, such as his initial support for the parole of Wayne DuMond, but he doesn’t spend a lot of time on apologies and contrition. He does make an effort to avoid repeating the same mistake.

So why do you advocate using tax dollars “for the children” ? Wouldn’t private donations to charity be better directed than anything the government will do ?

After last night’s Republican debate, Huckabee has gone to the top of my list. I like the man; I like his message.

Look out, Mitt and Roody!

He raises taxes and he is wrong on immigration.

Very succinct. And correct. You need go no further than that one sentence.

Mike Huckabee is a fiscal conservative:

http://www.townhall.com/columnists/DickMorrisandEileenMcGann/2007/11/28/mike_huckabee_is_a_fiscal_conservative

“Most impressively, when he had to pass an income tax surcharge amid the drop in revenues after Sept. 11, 2001, he repealed it three years later when he didn’t need it any longer.

He raised the sales tax one cent in 11 years and did that only after the courts ordered him to do so. (He also got voter approval for a one-eighth-of-one-cent hike for parks and recreation.)

He wants to repeal the income tax, abolish the IRS and institute a “fair tax” based on consumption, and opposes any tax increase for Social Security.”

Excerpt in reference to Healthy People 2010 and Huckabee's connection:

State departments of educations have been encompassing in loco parentis in their Healthy Schools programs. Healthy Schools is the evil offspring of Health People 2010.  This is about MORE than issuing birth control. THIS is about changing parental rights with children to STAKEHOLDERS.

In the United States, courts often must determine who the legal parents are among the many adults who might be involved in planning, conceiving, birthing, and raising a child. Judges in several states have seized upon the idea of “psychological” parenthood to award legal parent status to adults who are not related to children by blood, adoption, or marriage. They have done so even over the objection of the child’s biological parent. Advances in the same-sex marriage debate have encouraged group marriage advocates who wish to break open the two-person understanding of marriage and parenthood.

The National Health Education Standards has gone further and envoked in loco parentis by redefining parents as families. Families have been classified as stakeholders. Children’s stakeholders are being identified as any entity that is seen as a resource in a child’s community.  The legal definition of stakeholder is a third party who temporarily holds money or property while its owner is still being determined.

http://www.nationalguidelines.org/guideline.cfm?guideNum=0-12

Schools often have insufficient resources to provide a comprehensive and multifaceted continuum of interventions. By having direct contact with families and key informants in the community, schools are better able to identify barriers to student success and well-being and better equipped to develop solutions that overcome these barriers. Schools can enhance home-school links by sharing concerns with families and developing solutions that address students’ unique needs.

In addition to the benefits for students’ education and well-being, students’ families, and school staff, there are reciprocal benefits for community agencies who partner with schools. Businesses, the justice system, community health and safety systems, and others may benefit from a healthier population. Community agencies and organizations that provide services to children and families often gain a more visible profile when they become partners with schools.

Examples of neighborhood stakeholders in student health and well-being are students themselves, as well as their families and teachers. Other school staff, community business owners, police, faith-based institutions, universities and colleges, local health departments, health and mental health service providers, dentists, emergency medical services, educators of first-aid, departments of health, justice, education and social services, and other agencies that serve families have stakes in the well-being of the student population and school staff. Communicate regularly with partners and potential partners in order to learn what each has to offer.

Ok, that is the background on Healthy People 2010. Now my point.

Mike Huckabee is being endorsed by HSDLA. Yet, Mike Huckabee is OWNED by Healthy People 2010. That is where all the 'nanny stater' nicknames comes from. Look:

Promoting Health for a Nation: Healthy People 2010

Excerpt:

OBJECTIVES
After studying this chapter, the student should be able to 1. Explain the historical development process of Healthy People 2010.
2. Describe the goals, objectives, and function of Healthy People 2010.
3. Identify the 10 leading health indicators used to monitor progress toward Healthy People 2010 objectives.
4. Describe the processes used to evaluate the impact of Healthy People 2010 objectives.

Chapter 2 Promoting Health for a Nation: Healthy People 2010

Access to Health Care
The health care system is really designed to reward you for being unhealthy. If you are a healthy person and work hard to be healthy, there are no benefits.
Mike Huckabee, Governor of Arkansas

Arkansas Gov. Huckabee Reverses Type-II Diabetes

Snip, snip, snip, snip etc.

[Mike Huckabee] has created “Healthy Arkansas,” an initiative that sets the state on a course to reach the Healthy People 2010 goals in obesity, physical inactivity, and tobacco use. The program is a comprehensive effort to clearly define specific areas where behavioral changes can lead to healthier citizens. Efforts include enlisting the media in disseminating information and presenting awards to encourage the participants.

Mike Huckabee even publishes his books under grant initiatives from Robert Wood Johnson, the main funders of Healthy People 2010.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Annual Report:

Mike Huckabee’s books are listed here.

The emphasis on linking Mike Huckabee to Healthy People 2010 and HSDLA opposition to it, once parental rights are changed across the board to stakeholders, homeschooling options will end. HSDLA saw that years ago.

You are correct. Dane has been a Pro-Illegal POS ever since I joined FR in 1999. I guess he never read Jim Rob’s statement that this is NOT a liberal debating society, which spells it out quite clerly that FR’s purpose is to never give the libs a platform. They can go to DU for that! Time for a purge.

Don't be silly. Reagan's amnesty was nothing compared to what Bush and Huckabee wanted.

Fred and Duncan are perfectly respectable REAL conservatives.

Don't back the wrong horse just because you like the color of his tail.

Huckabee supports the fair tax proposition, as do I.

Two things Mike Huckabee and Chuck Norris have in common.

1) Both are conservative.

And

2) Both are kick @$$.

“Reagan’s amnesty was nothing”

You are talking to a white male who was born, raised, and grew up near downtown Houston, TX throughout the ‘60’s, ‘70’s, ‘80’s and ‘90’s. Reagan’s amnesty was FAR from nothing, then or now, FAR from dismissable, compared to W, Huckabee, or any of the other Republican candidates on the primary ticket.

“He’s still wrong on immigration”

As a conservative, I agree with Mike’s conservative position on immigration, as he states them here:

http://www.mikehuckabee.com/index.cfm?FuseAction=Issues.View&Issue_id=4

Securing our borders must be our top priority and has reached the level of a national emergency.

The Governor supports the $3 billion the Senate has voted for border security. This money will train and deploy 23,000 more agents, add four drone planes, build 700 miles of fence and 300 miles of vehicle barriers, and put up 105 radar and camera towers. This money will turn “catch and release” into “catch and detain” of those entering illegally, and crack down on those who overstay their visas.

In this age of terror, immigration is not only an economic issue, but also a national security issue. Those caught trying to enter illegally must be detained, processed, and deported.

The Governor opposes and will never allow amnesty. He opposed the amnesty President Bush and Senator McCain tried to ram through Congress this summer, and opposed the misnamed DREAM Act, which would have put us on the slippery slope to amnesty for all.

The Governor opposes and will not tolerate sanctuaries for illegals. The federal government must crack down on rogue cities that willfully undermine our economy and national security.

The Governor opposes giving driver’s licenses to illegals and supports legislation to prevent states from doing so.

The Governor will stop punishing cities which try to enforce our laws and protect the economic well-being, physical safety, and quality of life of their citizens.

The Governor opposes and will not tolerate employers who hire illegals. They must be punished with fines and penalties so large that they will see it is not worth the risk.

The Governor opposes the economic integration of North America that would create open borders among the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He will never yield one iota or one inch of our sovereignty.

The Governor will take our country back for those who belong here. No open borders, no amnesty, no sanctuary, no false Social Security numbers, no driver’s licenses for illegals.
