It's amazing, Mike Huckabee is one of the few politicians who would give the time of day to FR,

and yet by some on FR they in mindless hyperbolic posts basically compare him to the plague.
JMO, some FReepers prove the axioms of "fair weather friends" and "no good deed goes unpunished" and also "watch your back", very true.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Best wishes for you and your family. You can think and make decisions while you are expecting and after, you know. You are an smart lady, you know. You can make up your own mind, you know. Just remember, government is not your mommy or your daddy. A truer statement was never uttered.
I have been genuinely on the fence on who to support for sometime now although Huckabee is rock solid on my core values:
Pro-life
Anti-homosexual agenda
Pro 2nd Ammendment
National Defense
The other issues such as taxes, immigration, and especially the so-called “nanny-state” issue - just aren’t that significant or important to me. However, I have been hesistant to commit to Huckabee.
A combination of things has changed my mind, one key one being the “hyperbolic posts” you mentioned from supporters of other candidates that can’t deal with Huckabee pulling votes from their particular icon. I’m now declaring that I’m going to back Governor Huckabee. You juvenile acting supporters of other candidates that get way too over the edge in your posts pushed me towards Huckabee.
I’m not saying everyone here that supports another candidate is junenile...many are respectful and adult in their presentations and I have considered their thoughts. However, there are some here that really do need a “Nanny State” because you don’t understand basic manners and decorum. The “Nanny” needs to introduce you to a paddle.

Dane, I love President Bush, but I have to concede that he has been awful on budgetary restraint, medicare entitlements, and has almost buried the party with his bull-headed attempt at amnesty. I see Huckabee as similar to Bush except he has a terrible pro-tax record and pro-amnesty statements and policies, from the little I have read. I see Huckabee as someone who will take what is left of the conservative base and flush it when it comes to pro-growth, low-taxes, and anti-illegal alien positions. I appreciate his pro-life view, but another 4-8 years of this, especially by someone who will be charasmatic and polished in his approach, will split the conservative coalition into splinters. Even if he is able to hold it together for an election by being a polished, well-spoken, anti-Hillary candidate, once in office he will be a disaster.

Count me in that group. Born and raised in Ark although I haven’t lived there for many years. I wouldn’t trust Huckabee as far as I could throw him-—before he went on a diet.
And I don’t just mean Freeper name...
The Huckster never ever mentioned securing the border in his life, until just recently as a candidate when he started taking heat for his long-time pro-amnesty, open borders stance.

LITTLE ROCK - In a impassioned speech before hundreds of influential Hispanic civil rights leaders from across the nation, Gov. Mike Huckabee told a captive audience Wednesday that America is great because it has always opened it doors up to people seeking a better way of life.
"I would hope that no matter who we are, or where we are from, that America should always be a place that opens its arms, opens it heart, opens its spirit to people who come because they want the best for their families ...," Huckabee said as the largely Hispanic audience gave him a standing ovation.
Huckabee was the keynote speaker, along with Tyson Foods Inc. Chairman and CEO John Tyson, at a noon luncheon of the League of United Latin American Citizens, which is holding its 76th annual convention in Little Rock.
About 10,000 political, community and business leaders, along with exhibitors and speakers are in Little Rock attending the convention at the Statehouse Convention Center. The convention started Monday and runs through Saturday.
Although he never actually talked about the U.S. or Arkansas immigration policy, Huckabee made it very clear where he stood on the issue. In his opening remarks, he said the nation will need to address the concerns of the Hispanic community because of its growing influence and population base.
He told the LULAC delegates that their presence in the state's capital city was very important because Arkansas has one of the fastest growing Hispanic populations in the nation. "Your gathering is so very significant for our state," Huckabee said. "We are delighted to have you."
Despite several light moments, Huckabee did not stray away from several controversial issues that made him a target of criticism during the recently ended 85th General Assembly. He said Arkansas needs to make the transition from a traditional Southern state to one that recognizes and cherishes diversity "in culture, in language and in population."
"This is an issue that is going to require extraordinary efforts on both sides of the border, particularly those coming from Mexico," Huckabee said of verifying the status of illegal aliens. "But I am confident that our government will recognize that we should accommodate people who wish to provide the best opportunities for their families (and) employers so that we can make sure our economy has the necessary work force."
During the legislation session, Huckabee criticized an immigration bill by Republican senators Jim Holt of Springdale and Denny Altes of Fort Smith as un-Christian, un-American, irresponsible and anti-life. Senate Bill 206, which died in the Senate, would have required proof of citizenship to register to vote and also force state agencies to report suspected cases of people living in the country illegally. Holt, R-Springdale, replied later to Huckabee's comments that Christian charity does not include turning a blind eye to lawbreaking.
Corsi goes on to report that "Arkansas attorney Chip Sexton provided WND a written legal brief arguing the state government's sublease to Mexico of office space for the consulate was illegal under Arkansas law. Sexton contended the deal raised questions about the appropriateness of private citizens and corporations in Arkansas providing financial incentives for the government of Mexico to locate a consulate office in Little Rock."
Corsi also writes that "Robert Trevino, commissioner of Arkansas Rehabilitation Services, told WND he and Huckabee helped arrange state and private financial support to induce Mexico to establish the consulate as a business development 'quid pro quo.'
"Trevino signed on July 7, 2006, a 'Facilities Use Agreement' with Mexican consular officials to rent state government office space for $1 a year on the second floor of the Arkansas Rehabilitation Services building at 26 Corporate Hills in Little Rock."
According to Sexton, not only did subleasing state government offices to Mexico violate Arkansas state law under Ark. Code Ann. 22-2-114(C)(i) which provides: "After July 1, 1975, no state agency shall enter into or renew or otherwise negotiate a lease between itself as lessor or lessee and a nongovernmental or other government lessor or lessee," but it was even more offensive in that "there was nothing in the lease or other agreements that would have prevented the Mexican consulate from providing legal assistance to illegal aliens."
In addition, Corsi also exposed the fact that Mike Huckabee worked with Mexican President Vicente Fox to help provide cheap Mexican labor for Tyson Foods and other large Arkansas corporations. According to Corsi, "Trevino confirmed he was state director of the League of United Latin American Citizens, also known as LULAC, an activist group strongly advocating for the rights of Hispanic immigrants in the U.S., when on Oct. 3, 2003, he accompanied Huckabee in a state airplane to visit [President Vicente] Fox in Mexico."
Ya see, that right there . . . that's gonna leave a mark.
He has some good points, but I can’t support him mainly because of his rather permissive stance on illegal immigration, his nanny-state tendencies when it comes to smoking, and the fact that he raised taxes in Arkansas. I don’t doubt the guy’s a social conservative, but what I want is someone who’s a social conservative AND tough on illegals AND at least something of a fiscal conservative. So I’m a Hunter or Thompson guy.
Basically, he comes off sounding a lot like a lighter-weight version of George W. Bush—a “compassionate conservative.” “Compassionate conservatism” that ends up jacking up spending faster than the Clinton administration, even WITHOUT the expense of Afghanistan and Iraq, is not conservatism, and isn’t going to be welcome around here. That’s what Huckabee sounds like.

I understand what you are saying...however, I have become so emotional that I am leaning towards legalizing all illegal immigrants because I feel sorry for them. That is how emotional I have become. So for right now, I will hold off on making any major decisions, because I did NOT feel that way before I got pregnant.
