MSNBC Hires Left-Wing Rosie O'Donnell

The NYTimes' Jacques Steinberg follows up on his story about MSNBC being in "serious discussions" with Rosie O'Donnell about a primetime show on the network.

Rosie would fit the roster, Steinberg writes, because "[T]he cable channel believes there is ratings gold in shows that criticize the [Bush] administration with the same vigor with which Fox News's hosts often champion it." Countdown with Keith Olbermann being the standout.

"Officials at MSNBC emphasize that they never set out to create a liberal version of Fox News," Steinberg writes, quoting NBC SVP Phil Griffin the former Hardball EP who now runs the network. "It happened naturally," said Griffin, "There isn't a dogma we're putting through. There is a 'Go for it.'"

Two notable exceptions to the left is right strategy: MSNBC hosts Tucker Carlson, whose show, Steinberg writes "is in real danger of being canceled" and Joe Scarborough now hosting three hours in the morning.

"I'm just as conservative as I was in 1994, when everyone was calling me a right-wing nut," Scarborough says. "I think the difference is the Republican Party leaders, a lot of them, have run a bloated government, have been corrupt, and have gone a very, very long way from what we were trying to do in 1994. Also, the Republican Party has just been incompetent."

I’m waiting for her to commit suicide on air.

Just tell her there's 72 virgins in it for her and she might do it!

Tucker cain’t dance, either! LOL!

Good thing Tucker doesn't dance next to a brass pole soliciting $1 tips, he'd starve to death.

So who do you have to sleep with to get a show on MSNBC. Imean Tucker and Joe have one for now, what other explaination could there be?

MSNBC didn't offer her a contract, it's a suicide pact.

Part of the deal calls for Rosie to have a female boss who will, at least once a week, call her on the carpet.

At least spitboy won’t have the worst ratings on MSDNC now, although he will still be the biggest Girl.

Hey, that’s a good point. What will Ol-Bore-Man, O’Donnell and all the other left-wing idiots on Airhead America and PMSNBC do when Bush is no longer in office, especially if Hillary is the Pres? Who will they rail on for the next 4 years?

What is this “MSNBC” they speak of???

It is one of those channels that come free with every cable package but that no one actually watches. At MSNBC's prime time ratings peak, it has less viewers than Home Shopping Channel has at 3 in the morning.

Does anyone remember when Phil Donahue had a talk show on MSNBC? Does anyone remember Phil Donanhue?

I hate to take Rosie’s side on this but I say if she can separate the NBC fools from their money then more power to her.

There is no way in the world that Fox news gives pro Bush support compared to the awful, hateful, childish so ‘60ish direct action crap on MSNBC.

I never thought that MSNBC could find a way to make Olbermann look less liberal, but they did. Of course the net amount of liberalness on MSNBC has just been supersized, but hey.

Also, I read she’s asking for $10 million - thats $6 million more that Olbermann’s $4. Thats got to make him happy.
