My Night At The Orlando Fox News Presidential Debate
Myself | 10-22-2007 | my favorite headache

Posted on 10/21/2007 11:38:01 PM PDT by My Favorite Headache

I am going to post just a small review of my night with 23 Republicans at the Fox News Orlando Republican Presidential Debate.

Luntz was angry early on before camera's went live when he polled the group to make sure everyone there was undecided. A 21 yr old guy raised his hand and said he was supporting Ron Paul. Luntz absolutely lost it on this kid and said "Why in the hell did you not put that on your questionaire that was e-mailed to you? Why does it not shock me that a Ron Paul supporter would pull this kind of crap?"

"If someone else shows up you are being replaced and out of here...this room is for undecided."

I was originally placed in the second row towards the end of the row next to a man named Fred Hawkins Jr. who is running for Osceola County Commissioner. Luntz asked us a bunch of questions with a camera crew and producers in tow behind him and I was the first to answer. I was the first person to use the word "socialism" and it spread like wild fire.

I said the concept of America voting a socialist like Hillary Clinton as President should be motivation enough for Republicans to get their act together. I reminded Luntz of the Hillary quote saying "This is the same woman who is quoted by the San Francisco Chronicle saying "We will have to take things away for the common good." Luntz had this smirk on his face and he knew I handed him gold.

After 3 segments it was time to go live. By the time you saw what you did at home we had already gone through 3 rounds of questions and I was lighting up the joint with what I call the biggest crisis this campaign.

What do any of these men who are running for President plan on doing to combat the extreme hatred of anyone who is a Republican by the mainstream media and how bad the liberal blogs, Soros, and just about everyone who has some sort of journalistic power slimes Republicans on a daily basis. Who is going to have the spine to stand up to it and how do they plan on doing it when the Bush Administration has been knocked out time and time again with no fight.

WHO IS GOING TO PREVENT THE PERCEPTION THAT REPUBLICANS ARE NOT WAR MONGERING NAZI'S WHO ARE OUT FOR OIL COMPANIES AND THE RICH?

Luntz definitely told us through his polling and research that as of today Hillary Clinton will win in a landslide. He was putting all of his money on her. I said you are going to go broke. He said Republicans are too disorganized and the focus group proved that.

I said not it does not. I said if you want to see motivation and organization? Put Hillary Clinton against any Republican and you will see Republicans vote like you have never seen before, the alternative is too grave. Whether we can stand it or not Republicans will do everything in their power to elect anyone else but Clinton.

You saw my exchange later on saying we have long memories and do not want to live through that hell again.

The Ron Paul comment I made was simple and sweet and every single person except the Ron Paul supporter all said "perfect" with regards to that remark.

Luntz walks over and says "you are good...you are going down to the front row...keep talking."

We taped about 70 mins worth of discussion. More clips will be aired at 6:20 AM on Fox and Friends First and then 8:20 AM on Fox and Friends. Then more clips from the debate will be aired on tomorrow's Hannity and Colmes as well from 9-10.

I am sure this is when you will see how hardcore it got in there.

I called out the room at the end of it all..when I saw how many people put their hands up that Rudy was the only one who could beat Hillary I said "I am really saddened to see how many people think he is their answer. That is very telling that the fire that was there earlier tonight for all of us agreeing that we want a true Conservative is gone already and that makes me sick as a true Conservative."

To me the top winners tonight were Romney, Huckabee, Thompson, and blech...I hate to say this but Rudy. His night was not that bad but he certainly is not my top choice for President.

I called for a thining of the herd. Paul, Tancredo, and Hunter need to go. They virtually played zero in the room. It was sad because I really like Tom and Duncan and said that if a Republican wins the White House in 2008 they should all be given cabinet posts ASAP.

Except Paul...which who by the end of the night lost his one supporter...the 21 yr old guy who didn't raise his hand when asked if anyone supported him.

Finally...Luntz. A nice guy but can be insulting. When he compared a moderate conservative to a major serious conservative he wanted a show of hands...then he added "When I say major serious conservative I mean you can hear the German Nazi marching bands and get excited", I then said to him "There it is..exactly what I was talking about." Luntz said "Relax I was only joking." I said "I know you were and it is that kind of talk that I am absolutely disgusted by and sick of...sick of it Frank...enough is enough with the nazi conservative comparisons people have got to speak up for conservatives...true conservatives."

That in a short capsule is it. Met some really nice people and we had a discussion at the end of everything and went our own ways.

I thank Luntz for letting me say whatever I wanted to on camera and speak up for Conservatives and letting me call Ron Paul out on global television.

Yes, and it was expected to pass the Senate. My favorite senator, Tom Coburn, railed against it but he usually isn’t successful, but this time he actually was, and the funding was cut. At least for now, the senators could sneak it back into a bill.

German Nazi marching bands and get excited

Curiously, I do have a cassette of German marching band music in my glove compartment.

All of the songs are pre-nazi era.

The amnesty bill in the senate was so bad that a lot of somewhat pro-amnesty people opposed it.

I’m not entirely against what people call “amnesty” for all illegal immigrants currently living in the country, but I strongly opposed the senate bill, which went WAY TOO FAR.

Note Huckabee wants to deport illegals who commit OTHER crimes. He doesn’t say what to do with the rest of them.

Wow, that’s spooky, that’s almost exactly what I said in response to him. I thought I was all alone here, now I’m encouraged.

Bush=Democrats is pure, unsupportable hyperbole.

It's not hyperbole Bush worked with Socialist Teddy Kennedy to pass legislation granting amnesty for illegal aliens. It's not hyperbole he, like the socialist Democrats, supports ceding our sovereignty to the internationalists by supporting The Law Of the Sea Treaty and the internationalist world court at the Hague by taking his home state of Texas to the Supreme Court to over turn the state's death sentence of an illegal alien who brutally murdered two teenage girls. Those are facts proving Bush is a socialist Democrat who deceived everyone to think he is a conservative.

Thanks and I did notice how that was written.
I like Huckabee and it's my hope that the uproar by the American people over the Shamnasty bill impressed him as much as it did me.

He’s a very likeable guy, well-spoken, and right on a host of issues. Remember that for many social conservatives, illegal immigration is TWO issues, one of security, sealing the border, but another of compassion, reaching out to the less fortunate. That’s why many Catholics split with the Republicans on this issue.

Lunzt really said that....the German Nazi band quote?

Disgusting....Why aren't we hearing this quote this morning on FOX or other newsgroups?..

..he's suppose to be impartial, isn't he.

REAL CONSERVATIVES NEED NOT APPLY.....I guess!!!!!

EXCELLENT job! I wish we could see the whole thing. BTW, I’ve always suspected something fishy about Luntz. He seems to detest conservatives.

I would agree with you if his current WORDS are ignored. But if he wins with conservative support, we can rightly say he won BECAUSE he changed his mind, and embraced the conservative cause. Then we can hold his feet to the fire and make him live up to his promises.

If he doesn’t, we aren’t “marginalized” because we were lied to.

That’s why I wouldn’t vote for a Linc Chafee, because we’d deserve what we got, as he’d be doing what he promised.

It’s why I give some people a hard time when they attack Bush for immigration — because Bush said during the campaign exactly what he was doing as President. He didn’t “turn out” differently in that case.

I’m not saying Rudy is SAYING all the right things either. But he is saying a LOT MORE right things than Hillary, and if he lived up to what he says he’d be a lot more conservative than Joe. For example, Joe would never appoint John Roberts, Scalia,or Thomas.

I don’t know if Rudy would either, but he SAYS he would, and people who have always been trustworthy on the abortion issue that are associated with Rudy SAY he is telling the truth.

It’s not enough for me to support him in the primary, but it’s enough for me not to stay home in the general election.

To equate "major serious conservatives"

... with "German Nazi marching band" is outrageous!!!!

People with seemingly more power than Luntz have lost their jobs and reputations over .....'I was just joking'...

But oh gee, I forgot....

..it's OK to demean & ridicule REAL conservatives.

You were that guy! LOL! I pumped my fist in the air when you said that; and its funny how almost every man and woman in that room nodded in approval in total agreement when you said that. I thought alot of comments by the people in that room with you echoed alot of what the base is ginned up about; returning to party principles, taking on the democrats, fighting the left wing media instead of rolling over.

Oddly enough, this month I went to a GOP party on the Hill and it was the first time that I got the feeling that the GOP was finally getting their game on for election season. They have a plan and they are finally dusting themselves off after last November. Last nights debate reinforced that.

I just have to know. It was you who made the “certifiably insane” comment regarding Run Paul? I laughed for a full five minutes after that comment. My wife thought I was going to lose it completely. Great comment, great job of putting forth your views, and thank you for standing up for conservative principles. Oh, and I too thought that Gov. Huckabee did a very good job. I’m still undecided, but I’m narrowing the field after last night.

Dear CharlesWayneCT,

“I would agree with you if his current WORDS are ignored.”

Sorry, his current WORDS are merely trimming his sails, or outright lies. But even counting his current WORDS, he is little more than a somewhat more conservative liberal Democrat.

“But if he wins with conservative support, we can rightly say he won BECAUSE he changed his mind, and embraced the conservative cause.”

He’s hardly become a conservative. He’s still a damned baby-killer, his stance on gun rights is nearly indecipherable, as is his stance on government funding of abortion. He still thinks that abortion is a “constitutional right” and still thinks that a “strict constructionist” justice could uphold Roe. He’s still a statist as far as can be seen. He really has never repudiated his lawsuit against gun manufacturers. He’s misrepresented his previous positions on taxes. He’s still a big backer of the homosexual agenda.

“I’m not saying Rudy is SAYING all the right things either.”

Even with the trimming of sails and outright lies, Mr. Giuliani is still saying a lot of WRONG things.

He’s a baby-killer, pure and simple.

If he becomes president, he will do more harm than Mrs. Clinton would as president, as he would lead the formerly-conservative, formerly-pro-life Republican Party down the path of irrelevance and destruction.

The lesson learned would be that conservatism doesn’t win elections, pro-life doesn’t win elections, pro-family doesn’t win elections. The lesson learned would be to dump us social conservatives overboard.

If you don’t think that’s the case, then you haven’t been following the discourse at Free Republic since last winter, when all the damned rudybots were quite explicit in their desire to elect the baby murderer, to give them what they needed to throw social conservatives out of the party.

Electing Mr. Giuliani would cause the Republican Party to cave into every evil social legislation that the Democrat majority would propose, and that the baby killer would sign. Electing Mr. Giuliani would destroy the only current mainstream vehicle for any sort of social conservatism in the United States. Mr. Giuliani is a present danger to the republic, even worse than Mrs. Clinton, as at least, Mrs. Clinton's election would engender resistance to her liberal policies from Congressional Republicans.

When your house is burning down, don't burn down the fire station, too.

“It’s not enough for me to support him in the primary, but it’s enough for me not to stay home in the general election.”

Gee, I don’t know why you keep coming back to this “staying home” thing. I’ll be out voting on election day. Straight Republican ticket EXCEPT for any baby killers at the top of the ticket.

Duncan Hunter is a man who should not only be in the next debate, but he should be given equal time with Rudy, Fred, Romney and McCain.

I feel that way about Tancredo. To me, Tanc outshone Hunter.
