Never ever support or elect anyone claiming to be a "compassionate conservative."Considering that George W. Bush brought that slogan into our lives, are you saying we should not have supported him in 2000 and 2004? Who would have been the candidates to support in those two elections?

Sounds like aRINOld was the lesson to be learned, tootyfruityrudy is the next test question. Did we learn? I think conservatives did. It’s the CINOs that I worry about. They AGREE with aRINOld and tootyrudy.

As I said. Lessons learned. How many times must we relearn the same lessons.

Let me add; Never ever vote for a dem at any level, even if that specific dem seems pretty good. It is not the single dem who will cause the problems, it’s the majority he/she adds to. Don’t help the dems numbers ever.

I guess I'll have to take that instead of a direct answer.
I wish we had these clear-cut choices as you seem to think we have. I can't think of a single past Republican nominee who meets all the requirements you list.

Never ever vote for a dem at any level,That's a much more do-able lesson. I've certainly learned it. After always being open to the "best person" in each election, local or state, since 2001 I've never voted for a dem and never will.

Never ever compromise with the liberals. Compromise with liberals is a one way street. They win, we lose. I've never seen the liberals compromise with us for less socialism and more freedom.Damn right! Our idiot Repub pols haven't quite figured that out yet though, and continue to get pwn3d by the DhimmiKrats.

Fred Thompson matches up pretty well to this list of principles by my reckoning.
To: Jim Robinson
I think another point that might be made is that the trust you give to a new convert to the correct principles is inversely proportional to the power of the office sought, and directly proportional to the length of time since the conversion.

Our idiot Repub pols haven't quite figured that out yetThat they attempt compromise with the libs time and again is a Exhibit A for why we should have term limits. How come outside DC we can all see, so clearly, how they're being played, and yet they still do it? Maybe because once you're having drinks with the libs and hanging out with them you're thinking they're you'r friends? Whereas if you're new in town your anger at them is fresh and keeps you aware?

I agree. I certainly hope he’s the nominee, because I just don’t see any of the others toppling Hillary.

Sounds good, all of it...
But should I hold out for pie in the sky, too?
What candidate comes close to touching, all the above? (pie not included).
Duncan Hunter? I'd vote for him, sure...but even if he could win the GOP nomination, could he beat the witch of the East, with her army of skillful liars?
maybe...

I wish we had these clear-cut choices as you seem to think we have. We do, but the problem is that he can't generate the media coverage to garner more than 1% of the poll votes right now. If some *cough Dobson cough* would throw his name into the hat for this particular candidate from California, there might be some grass roots growth for him. As it is now, the choices are pretty pitiful.....
