Gore's Climate Theory Savaged
Sunday Mail ^ | 10-13-07

Posted on 10/14/2007 6:32:11 AM PDT by webschooner

One of the world's leading meteorologists has described the theory that helped Al Gore win a share of the Nobel prize "ridiculous".

Dr William Gray, a pioneer in the science of seasonal hurricane forecasts, spoke to a packed lecture hall at UNC Charlotte and said humans are not responsible for the warming of the earth.

"We're brainwashing our children," said Gray, 78, a longtime professor at Colorado State University. "They're going to the Gore movie (An Inconvenient Truth) and being fed all this. It's ridiculous."

Gray, whose annual forecasts of the number of tropical storms and hurricanes are widely publicised, said instead that a natural cycle of ocean water temperatures - related to the amount of salt in ocean water - is responsible for the global warming that he acknowledges has taken place.

However, he said, that same cycle means a period of global cooling will begin soon and last for several years.

"We'll look back on all of this in 10 or 15 years and realise how foolish it was," Gray said.

"The human impact on the atmosphere is simply too small to have a major effect on global temperatures," Gray said.

He said his beliefs have made him an outsider in popular science.

"It bothers me that my fellow scientists are not speaking out against something they know is wrong," he said. "But they also know that they'd never get any grants if they spoke out. I don't care about grants."

It’s about time more people are speaking out about the “inconvenient mis-truth” of Al Gore’s claims. I still hope he joins the presidential race. I think there is still room for an ego the size of one of his melting icebergs.

Him getting the Nobel Peace Prize is really going to anger some people. I think he’s going to have a bulls-eye on his back for a while, as one after another scientist takes him out to the woodshed over the next few months, or perhaps longer.

This could actually turn out to be a very good thing, it his lies are finally trashed for the refuse they are.

He’s also 78 and doesn’t give a damn what people think any more. Gotta love it.

Al Gore will be that trivia question 50 years from now, listed under “Stupid Quotes for $100”.

One of the arguments I use to defeat libs in this argument is this encapsulated in this idealized discussion. It nips it in the bud before it can degrade into the "evil corporation" and "selfish Americans" trade, which they always do:

Me: First of all, what do you mean by “global”?
It: The world, of course, stupid.
Me: Of course. But the world is spherical, it is three dimensional, not one or two.
It: What does that matter?
Me: Are we talking about the surface temperature of “the world”, say from ground level to about 10 feet high? If so, how far apart are the measuring devices? Wouldn’t you need one say every square 100 miles to get an “average” temperature for each area? And then measure it for a hundred years to get the change in average temperature? And then you’d need to compare and correlate each 100 square miles to all the other measurements.
It: Why?
Me: Because if half the areas increased by 2 degrees and the other half decreased by 3, that would actually be an ‘average’ loss of a degree, right?
It: I suppose.
Me: Actually, we can’t even draw that conclusion.
It: Why not?
Me: Because the world is spherical, three dimensional. It has height and depth.
It: Meaning?
Me: When we get those surface temperatures, we’d also need to get an average of atmospheric temperatures, say every 100 square miles. We’ve only been taking ‘some’ atmospheric measurements since the 70’s...that’st he 1970’s, not 1870’s. We’d also need to get more detailed measurements on all mountain systems. We’d also need the same type of detail for all of the ocean water. And again, we’d have to track those measurements for a hundred years and average them all out because if there’s a rise in one set, it could be caused by a drop in another set.
Me: That’s absurd. You could never do that.
It: And yet you’re claiming that all the temperature of the world has risen. And then you take it a step further and say that Man is causing it.
It: Man is causing global warming.
Me: You think Man or our inventions are more powerful than the sun?
It: No.
Me: Do you think we could somehow stop the tides or the ocean currents?
It: Our global warming is causing the current to shift. Algore said so.
Me: Or maybe the ocean currents are shifting naturally and that is having an impact on global temperatures. It is far more likely that sun activity, or changes in the ocean, which act as the world’s radiator, is causing global warming, if there is any. But we don’t know that there is according to how we have defined “global” in this discussion, because we’ve never made thorough measurements.
Without an accurate, detailed measurement, it’s more likely that global temperature changes are caused by the movement of hot and cold spots, not an increase in temperature.

Most of us are not scientists, yet we have been describing his theories as ‘ridiculous’ for years.

Follow the money

That's a large part of the rationale presented in The Great Global Warming Swindle and certainly one of the maxims that have consistently proven true.

2007 is marking the end of the Global Warming farce. The fact that the Nobel Peace Prize has gone to yet another American idiot (Carter was the first) and the idiot Global Warming pals at the UN gives us more confidence of the phony essence of the Global Warming myth/religion.

An honest Scientist, who would have thunk?? If the planet was to heat up there would be more evaporation and more clouds/rain which would Cool the planet. God was pretty smart.

Actually in this example the average loss is one half a degree.

Congratulations to Dr. Gray for telling it as it is.

But ever since they gave one to Yasser Arafat, the Nobel Peace Prize isn't worth more than a warm bowl of spit.

I still hope he joins the presidential race.

I don't. I think he's more electable than Hillary. There are an awful lot of people who voted for him, think he should have been president in 2000, and consider him "mainstream."

I'd rather the Republicans hae to run against Hillary.
