Ron Paul used to be a hero on FR.......until he dared run for Prez. I’m still trying to figure out what turned everyone against him.

Ron Paul tends to lean to the libertarian side.

I can’t figure it out though.

It is weird.

Mostly because he refuses to look at any evidence that supports our troops mission fighting the war on terrorism.

He is more comfortable being an hero at moveon.org, Daily Kos and DU

Probably because I was the first person to call him a kook when he announced. And while I hate brag, people love my opinion so much, the label stuck.

Could be because he shares the looney-liberal position of pulling out of Iraq, which would essentially hand a victory to islamic terrorist thugs.

Not wanting to go there was one thing, but pulling out now would be a disaster.

For anyone who was paying attention, he started to lose the hero status from the first comments he made after September 11, 2001. His opinions about our conflict with Muslim jihadists are just wrong, and people's belief in those wrong ideas is bad for the country. The anger against him today is caused by his supporters spamming of internet polls in order to show disproportional support for him. He's right about many domestic issues, but he's wrong about the nature of our enemies. His views aren't a big problem when he's just a member of the House or Representatives. He should not be president.

Bill

His opposition to the war and his foreign policy in general has turned many conservatives against him. Though I disagree with Paul on his foreign policy, sooner or later our troops are going to have to come home inevitably from the Middle East sewer. I don't think the majority of Americans are in favor of "staying the course" for another generation at a cost of hundreds of billions of dollars per year.

But yes, there was a time when Paul was a rock star on FR, and his other conservative views certainly are far superior to the rest of the Republican candidates.

Not every freeper is against him. Even though I'm not a Libertarian, I've sent money to him for years for the simple reason that he knows we need to get back our constitution.

People who want a drastic change from corporate government are listening to him. We've been enslaved by the Federal Reserve and IRS and he wants to abolish those.

This time out, though, I think Duncan Hunter would be the better president.

“Ron Paul used to be a hero on FR.......until he dared run for Prez. I’m still trying to figure out what turned everyone against him.”

Ron Paul never was a ‘hero’ on FR. True, there were some very vocal Ron Paul fans but there were also some that found Ron Paul to be a joke. This seemed to solidify after 9/11 but even before 9/11 there were those who were not ‘Ron Paul fans’. I never was a Ron Paul fan and never will be.

A lot of RF object to RP because of his stance since 9/11. I object to RP simply because he is a libertarian and there are too many of his positions (outside of 9/11) that I cannot support.

Let's correct this for you.

Ron Paul used to be a hero on FR.......until he dared run for Prez. blamed the US for 9.11 and joined the surrender monkey leftists, at which time, many on Free Republic decided to look a little closer at this so called hero and found him to be a RINO moderate libertarian, not a Conservative hero that many made him out to be...

Not very many people are really willing to give up the big government programs. Everybody else give up theirs first. Plus, people like to be lied to.

Ron Paul used to be a hero on FR.

He was? Gee, I never heard of him before he decided to run for Prez.

I can tell you I'm against him because he's crazy, and so are the vast majority of his supporters.

"I’m still trying to figure out what turned everyone against him."

Well, of course, not everyone is against him. Some FReepers are supporters.

We often hear the "surrender" thing, but that is misleading.

We also hear the "anti-semite" thing, but that is simply wrong.

Then there is the "looney" thing, for which nobody has offered an explaination.

IMO, if one has taken the time to examine Ron Paul's position, one finds that all of the above slurs simply do not hold up.

So you're right; we still don't know what has turned everyone against him.
