This afternoon we received a call from a viewer who said a business near downtown Reno was flying a Mexican flag above an American flag... which is in fact illegal.
This, after photos and comments about the flag were posted on Craigslist this morning. When we were able to have a photographer go and check everything out we found the story to be true.
It also didn t take long before the situation provoked a strong reaction. We are now going to show you , unedited, what happened. Click on the video to see what happened.

Is this really illegal in NV? I somehow doubt it.
If this is a private business they should be able to fly flags anyway they want. If people don’t like it they can organize a boycott of the business.
Taking down the flags is vandalism.
Long live free speech!!!
I’d like to buy that Vet a beer. We need more men like him in the Congress and in the White House for that matter.
I’d like to buy this guy a drink sometime.

Governor Waihee, the first ethnic Hawaiian governor, flew the Hawaiian flag over ther US flag at the Hawaii State Capitol. It was an “in your face” unpatriotic act as he intended it to be. He is a Dimocrap.
That's disgusting. A great American would not do such a thing without at least urinating on the rag:)
Here’s my question. Is it legal to fly ONLY a Mexican (or other country) flag? I’m seen that many times in my town, and I always wonder. It really bothers me.
Most every state has flag laws paterned after the “Flag Code” 36 U.S.C. 173-178. Federal Law does not provide for penalties, but most state laws do.
“Did they show the name of the business?”
Go to WWW.KRNV.COM and you will see the videos to your right. It loads fine that way and you’ll see the entire front of the business. Great video! The business owner just stands there with his mouth open and wouldn’t speak for the camera. He said later that he was “just trying to support the local Hispanic community”.
I wouldn’t interfere with a PO’d guy with a seven inch Kabar either.
The only sign on the business was “El Jaripeo”, or somethign to taht effect.
And by the way, yesterday afternoon, I called the owner of Cantina El Jaripeo, and asked him to fix the flag situation. He pleaded ignorance and then asked what law he was breaking. I told him (US Code IV, Chapter 1, Section 7(c).
Later in the evening when he was interviewed in a phone call from KRNV, he said he was not aware it was against the law.
A dumb thing to do, but prosecution under this law would not stand up in court, as the first amendment supersedes all laws related to flag displays.
So? Flying the flag below another one does not seem to violate Nevada Law.
It means both the guy who displayed the flag ("defames, slanders, or speaks evilly or in a contemptuous manner") and the guy who cut it down("willfully and maliciously removes while owned by others") could be guilty of a misdemeanor under Nevada law.
Its about time people begin to say and act on ..we arent standing for this anymore.
For too long now we have allowed people to trod all over us.
God bless that guy ...I for one am proud!
Flying another nations flag over our own ...in place of our own etc...is not free speech. Its a message of conquer.
Thanks for that info.
“He pleaded ignorance and then asked what law he was breaking. I told him (US Code IV, Chapter 1, Section 7(c).”
They plead ignorance about a lot of US laws and customs.
This is not a free speech iussue. Try to fly the American flag above the Mexican flan in Mexico.
Lorraine, you are pathetic. What, pray tell was his message? What was he trying to say in his “free Speech?
