An 8-year-old boy led 200 chanting, singing immigration activists to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office yesterday armed with a letter begging the California Democrat to move quickly to stop deportations. Saul Arellano, the son of recently deported illegal alien Elvira Arellano, has emerged as a leading icon in the immigration movement. Miss Arellano had promised to come to the District yesterday for an immigration-reform prayer vigil before being sent back to Mexico on Aug. 19.
But Saul..showed up in her place. Accompanied by several TV cameras and a statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe, he marched through the halls of the Cannon House Office Building to reach Mrs. Pelosi's quarters...
Once at the speaker's office, Saul ran into a problem: Mrs. Pelosi's office already was occupied by about 40 antiwar protesters who weren't budging. The bewildered child stopped in his tracks while immigration activists clustered around him. A security guard inside the speaker's office shut the door.
The immigration activists began shouting "Born in the USA," and, in Spanish, "We feel Elvira is present."...
Meanwhile, Emma Lozano, a Chicago activist with Latino Families United, had produced a roll of Scotch tape and affixed the letter along with a Spanish translation to the door...
It's not clear whether Mrs. Pelosi will actually see the letter...an aide removed it from the door. Drew Hammil, a Pelosi spokeswoman, said the speaker was in Portland, Ore., yesterday.
Mrs. Lozano said Saul will be returning to Mexico today, where he will attend school and live with his mother...
At a press conference yesterday, which was organized by Chicago-based Pueblo Sin Fronteras (People Without Borders), Miss Arellano was compared to civil rights activists such as Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, as well as slavery abolitionist Harriet Tubman...

The war of Southern Agression is upon us.
Deport the son !!!!!
If there was ever an argument for passing that bill in Congress which would eliminate “birthright” citizenship for people without at least one citizen as a parent....
This woman’s parental rights should have been terminated. What kind of “mother” abandons her own flesh and blood in a foreign country?
He is a U.S. citizen, due to his birthright citizenship claim. But he should be with his mother, and he should be in school instead of traipsing around House office buildings being exploited by open borders activists. When I saw him on TV last night he looked like he was about to cry. The entire episode is shameful.
By the way the 14th amendment does not grant this boy or any other "anchor baby" citizenship!
Like the Speaker of the House can do anything...............
“Miss Arellano was compared to civil rights activists such as Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, as well as slavery abolitionist Harriet Tubman...”
An insult to all these fine people, Harriet in particular!
This is shameful on behalf of the mother - using her “anchor baby” as a pawn. There is NO REASON in the world why that child cannot be with the mother. In fact on a Glen Beck show the minister of the church she was hiding in said he’d be returning to Mexico a few weekends ago. The little boy is staying with a relative.
BTW, WHO is the FATHER of this “anchor baby”?
Where’s his father?..............Dead?........
“If there was ever an argument for passing that bill in Congress which would eliminate birthright citizenship for people without at least one citizen as a parent....”
YES!
It needs to be changed that BOTH PARENTS must be citizens so there is NO automatic citizensip for illegitimate children born to serve as “anchor” babies.
The father is probably a Catholic Priest/US Citizen.
The kid should be thankful Janet Reno isn’t around these days.....
The church she was staying in in Chicago was a Methodist Church, so perhaps it is a Methodist pastor. Catholics have not cornered the market on stupid political maneuvers.
Why do you say that?
A happy ending.
