Absolute vanity about tattoos.

Posted on 08/28/2007 9:06:17 PM PDT by ozaukeemom

Over the years, I have thought about getting a tattoo. Surprising considering my fear of needles! lol I see them everywhere on every classs of person, I see the artwork vary from onr body to another. What causes someone to decide to have a tattoo. Is it cultural? Is it a fad? I am seriously thinking about it now. Any stories, suggestions? Thank you!

Half the *opinions* were "sh**house" psychiatry themselves. Once the religious judgement kicked in, I chose to counter.

Let me explain this to you s-l-o-w-l-y: The lady asked for the person's opinion. The previous poster gave it to her. However, that poster did not ask for YOUR opinion. Get the difference?

I vote no no no and no...

When you add to a good thing (and women’s bodies are like the Bible ... beautiful) you subtract from it. One is not to judge by appearances, but it sure makes a first impression I remember on a lady. The impression is negative...

Did I mention I vote no ... nada... zilch with the ink...

Every tatoo I’ve ever seen looked just like that to me.

I don’t like them. I’ve never seen a picture that was prettier than my wife’s clear skin. Nothing could improve on my daughter’s smile. Nothing would make my son more manly than a well taken care of and unmutilated body.

Piercings are as great a way as tatoos to aquire infections and sickness.

Many of the tatoos you see on stars are temporary.

My clear skin isn’t.

Think long and hard before you try to enhance the perfection you got for free, with something that will cost you plenty one way or another and be very hard if not impossible to get rid of.

I’m going to steal that to use on my nieces/nephew....

Two I used on my daughter who has no tattoos:

Girls generally love fashion, I told her tattoos are permanent, would she want to be forced to wear the same shirt for the rest of her life?

I also pointed out that when she was a youngster she would have thought it pretty cool to have one of the cartoon characters She-ra or the Smurfs tattooed on her, but at age 17 she would have been highly embarrassed by those same tattoo's. Likewise she will mature and her tastes will change nearly as much between the ages of 17 and 30 as they did between ages 5 and 17.

Good luck with the nieces and nephew.

Personally, I think an attractive woman with a tattoo is like a nice house with gang grafitti.

DO NOT GET A TATOO!!!

My niece is in her third year of medical school. Myself, after having worked over 35 years in the medical profession, advised my niece to be a dermatologist. One that specializes in laser tatoo removal.

It’s only going to be a growth field, (as idiots who got tatoos realize how crappy they look.)

There’s no call involved. There are no emergency cases. This is currently, generally, a cash business. Most insurances do not cover tatoo removal. But, like everything else there are exceptions.

Try reading this s-l-o-w-l-y yourself:

Stop your intellectually dishonest, hypocritical whining and get over yourself already.

I didn’t ask for YOUR opinion on my retort to what I saw as a silly statement either.

Yet you chose to stick your nose in, didn’t you?

The FR “rulebook” does not state that opinions can only be issued to an orginal poster, nor does it state that comments are not meant to be issued in response to replies.

This is a public forum. Anybody that posts, is open to rebuttals. Every comment has a Reply link.

You chose to use the reply button yourself, and your comment had nothing to do with the original post. Mine actually did. That makes you a hypocrite.

The original post itself was a silly vanity to begin with, so whatever problem you have is also silly.

I think the truth here is that you didn’t like my opinion, but can’t deal with it, so you’ve invented a reason to complain. Well, I don’t back down on stupid, irrational complaints.

Deal with the issue and content of my post to which you took issue with, or remain silent. Your issue with my post is patently absurd.

Afew years ago, I went on a dive charter in Pennakamp in Key Largo. The boat we went out on was unusual to say the least in that the captain was a little person who literally steared the boat with his feet and the dive master was a pretty, petite 20 something girl with tat dolphins in a circle around her navel and a manta ray on her shoulder. She also had lots of visible piercings.

After a good day diving, on the trip back in I asked the captain if she had any piercings you can’t see. He must have been asked before, because he seemed bored with the answer: “ when she pees, it plays “the Bells of St. Marys”.”

True story.

Wow - that sure was a long, passionate reply. Maybe you’re taking this way too seriously, eh?

I am proud of the fact that I have never tattooed or pierced my body. Call me a rebel...I know.

Boredom is the reason for tattoos and piercings

Short answer I see for people getting tats....low self esteem or peer pressure.

When I was in the Navy, I knew many guys who got them as a mark to show that they were now men. Sometimes it only took a day or so before they regretted it. Most of the time they were tired of it after a month.

I had a Company Commander in boot camp who had them all up and down his arms. He said that if he could do it all over again, he wouldn’t get them. If tattoos made a person strong, then the military wouldn’t need training camps, just tattoo parlors. Regardless of the picture, they always look like a sign of rebelion marking a low point in a persons life.

As a man, I have not seen a tattoo that made a woman look better. In fact, a tattoo on a woman, makes her look trashy to me.

The saddest and strangest thing I encountered a few years ago was with our babysitter. She was 16 years old and was thinking of getting a tattoo. The reason she was thinking about it was because her basketball team was all getting one as a sign of unity. I advised her against it, because like I told you, most of the people I knew who got one regretted it.

My advise to you is don’t do it. No amount of tattooing can improve on God’s design.

Sincerely

My first tattoo was the words “Sat Cong” on my arm. When I was assigned to Okinawa and worked tug boats I had a ship and ship’s wheel added, along with a flower on my left hand - flower = posy = equal port. In my 20 years I could never keep “port” and “starboard” straight. Before returning to CONUS I added a Chinese Dragon to commemorate my time in the Orient. About a year after my return I covered the Sat Cong with a large eagle. I bought a Harley Davidson and of course added a couple Harley logos. A girlfriend owned a pet snake and the tattoo of a snake was added. In Hawaii I added a peacock for the beauty of the islands. When I neared retirement the Army Eagle was added, and a friend did flames as a wedding gift. After retiring my father died and I added an In Memoriam.
