Boys like blue, girls like pink and there isn't much anybody can do about it, researchers said on Monday in one of the first studies to show scientifically that there are gender-based color preferences.
Researchers said these differences may have a basis in evolution in which females developed a preference for reddish colors associated with riper fruit and healthier faces.
...
"We speculate that this sex difference arose from sex-specific functional specialization in the evolutionary division of labor," she wrote in Current Biology. "There are biological reasons for liking reddish things."
...
"Women have a very clear pattern. It's low in the yellow and green regions and rises to a peak in the purplish to reddish region," she said.
...
For men, thinking about colors was less important because as hunters they just needed to spot something dark and shoot it, Hurlbert said.

"The term mohammedan is considered offensive to those who prefer to be called muslims." How about "Pagan Towelhead" instead?

Yup. And more men are “color-blind” (even if it’s only 2-toned).

Foolish, unless you are married that is, in my younger days (long ago) I found a light pink shirt was a very good aid in picking up gals.I concur.
I'm reminded of a story, I think I read it in Reader's Digest or somewhere. went something like this.
Woman says that as she is pulling up to a stoplight, she she sees a bright pink Harley Davidson in front of her, ridden by a man with a matching pink helmet. She said "I thought, is that REALLY a pink Harley?" and then "I wonder if he is gay?
As she pulled up behind him, she noticed the writing on the back his helmet which said "Yes, it is. No, I'm not".

That came out over 10 years ago and is my favorite Calvin. If you’ve ever been to an academic seminar or convention and sat through a series of boring papers, written to “inflate weak ideas and obscure poor reasoning” with an impenetrable fog of academic speak, you’ve experienced a hell like no other. It’s bad enough that universities and governments pay for this crap to be written and published, but they also fund their colleagues to go and listen to the pap at least once a year.

The Brits are so screwed.
Soon all this research will have to be tossed as women’s favorite color becomes black...

For men, thinking about colors was less important because as hunters they just needed to spot something dark and shoot it, Hurlbert said. That's about as sexist a comment as I have ever read, almost as bad as the late Barbara Jordan's "men lack the ability for compassion" comment.
Imagine if a man had said something that dumb about women, the feminists would be all over his case.

That's cuz the gene for color-blindness is recessive and carried on the mother's X chromosome, so if the child gets a Y chromosome he cannot block out the defective X. Whereas if the child gets a normal X chromosome, she can block out the defective X. Thus, color-blindness affects mostly males.

I agree. In fact, in some cases you’d want to shoot at lighter-colored objects; deer and elk are lighter brown or orange-ish and stand out against the forest.
And what do they mean “spot something dark and shoot at it”? That’s a rather general statement. Are they gonna shoot at a tree? A rock? Those are relatively dark objects. Sheesh Hurlbert needs to get a clue.

You don’t think the “looking at red fruits” thing was dumb (and hence, I guess, sexist)?
I will say this is a dumb statement. I have no clue that because something that men shoot (or rather, THROW) at is “dark”, that men would like “blue”. They at least explained the specifics of pink - sort of, without saying something dumb like “women looked for “light” objects.
