Boys like blue, girls like pink and there isn't much anybody can do about it, researchers said on Monday in one of the first studies to show scientifically that there are gender-based color preferences.
Researchers said these differences may have a basis in evolution in which females developed a preference for reddish colors associated with riper fruit and healthier faces.
...
"We speculate that this sex difference arose from sex-specific functional specialization in the evolutionary division of labor," she wrote in Current Biology. "There are biological reasons for liking reddish things."
...
"Women have a very clear pattern. It's low in the yellow and green regions and rises to a peak in the purplish to reddish region," she said.
...
For men, thinking about colors was less important because as hunters they just needed to spot something dark and shoot it, Hurlbert said.

Sorry. I guess I am an anomaly (sp?). I DO NOT LIKE PINK! I LIKE BLUE! My mother liked pink, and lots of flowers. I am just totally turned off on both. But my daughter takes after my mom.
“Researchers said these differences may have a basis in evolution”
Well, we all know that can’t be true. ;)
I'd try, but I do have to get some work done this afternoon. I'll try later ... ;-)
Well, the ones who have been down to Trinidad for "the operation" are! :-))
It's just amazing what modern science (and zillions of dollars in research grants) can discover.
“””Then never leave a new shop rag in your pants pocket before you load the washer...””””
Best excuse ever.
Why do those things bleed so easily????
But I would have to say that the shirt would now be a shop rag...
Foolish, unless you are married that is, in my younger days (long ago) I found a light pink shirt was a very good aid in picking up gals. LOL. Had to be a light pink, not bright pink, bright pink attracts the wrong kind of attention!
Cowboy hat?
I really think you must be mistaken. :-)
What's next? "Studies show women have more breasts than men."
I was watching High School Musical 2 with my 16 year old daughter and the character “Sharpay” had a pink Mustang convertible. Boy, is it going to be an expensive second half of my life.
It’s not a “pink” shirt, it’s Coral”.
My daughter is 10-months-old. So, thankfully, I was spared High School Musical 2.
(I’ll check back in at High School Musical 10.)
You know, I thought this was pretty goofy as well, but then I considered that at least if they're occupied with "studies" like these, at least they aren't doing anything more dangerous.
Well, another reason I’m weird. I like blues best, overall.
Although I do like pink. And lots of colors, unless they are the “barf” shades.
Not more; bigger.
Someone paid for this BS.
Although I do like pink. And lots of colors, unless they are the Âbarf shades.
Hmm, I think you covered all the bases here. ;-)
On the other hand, you've helped me put into words my own color preferences. From now on, if anyone asks me, I'll say “I like colors unless they make me bark.”
Before that picture, I was going to say something about men liking to just stare up at the sky (it's blue), but I forgot that I was going to say that so I won’t now.
I like those. And I really like the purple-based 1s. I like bright colors. Maybe men SHOULD wear them more if they are interested in attracting women. Hmm?
