The Department of Education "spit" in the face of Arabs with the appointment of a Jewish woman as principal of the city's new Arabic-themed school, a Muslim activist said yesterday.

Salzberg is an Orthodox Jew who had worked to develop the curriculum at the Khalil Gibran International Academy.

Her predecessor, Debbie Almontaser, a devout Muslim and fluent Arabic speaker, quit under pressure last Friday after a furor over her comments to The Post defending "Intifada NYC" T-shirts to which her organization was linked.

How can this be legal????

A Christian or Jewish public school would not be allowed.

New York has a homosexual themed high school too.

Tolerance means that the West must accept every aspect of other cultures. And it means that other cultures are free to completely reject all aspects of western culture.

Why is there an Islamic public school in the first place???

It's not technically Islamic. It is a magnet school that emphasizes the study of Arabic langauge, in theory along the same lines as The Bronx High School Of Science which emphasizes the hard sciences.

Its namesake, Khalil Gibran, was actually a very liberal-minded Arab Christian.

Where I come from, Mr. Rimawi, respect is something you earn. Stop whining and go write me a report on how 19 of your people killed three thousand innocents whose crime was going to work in the morning, with an appendix on beheadings done to appeal to Baal (sorry, "Allah") in the twenty and twenty-first Century. When you come back with an apology that does not include the word "but..." then I may have some respect for those of you in the Moon Cult.
