New Hampshire police are facing a record shortage in gun rounds, causing months-long delays in ammunition orders and forcing some departments to postpone annual mandatory tests at local shooting ranges.
Ammunition demands linked to the war in Iraq, increased security after the Sept. 11 terror attacks and rising worldwide demand for raw materials have taken their toll on the supply of ammunition for police departments, according to officials familiar with the firearms industry.

As long as you can stock up on primers, not too much is impossible. I favor the larger calibers, therefore I can cast my own bullets from scrap lead and wheelweights. I have scrounged thousands of spent brass casings from the local gun range. If worst came to worst, I can make a decent black powder suitable for revolvers and rifles.
There’s lots of 9mm and .45 ammo out there. I call BS on this.
Glad to know they are still around.
Maybe it’s just regional shortages in the Liberal Paradise of New England........
I sure hope we arent attacked here in the homeland any time soon. I will make sure any libs are mowed down before I take out my personal stock and defend the neighborhood.
Just purchased 1000 rds of 9mm (Wulf Ammo) at gun show for $150.
But not a lot of .223, which is mentioned in the article.
I read another article....these plants are exporting a ton of ammunition due to the low dollar and favorable exchange rates. So it is more than the US military ordering.
If only my scotchman dual operator ironworker press could make brass it would be a close second to my corbin press, collection of old dive weights and chest type freezer full of assorted primers and powders......
“Just do it andy58. Then youll need to get the matching black shotgun Win 1300 to go with it.”
....and that leads to the M1A...and that leads to the LE10 (with Accutrigger)... and that leads to any number of 1911s.
Well, truth be told, I do have my eye on an M4A2 or A3, but the price is
$1200+, which ain’t chicken feed. It does make a nice sound though, when you pull the charging handle back. ;-)
ATK is 30 MILLION rounds behind on production, yep that’s MILLIONS folks...
This is pistol calibers, not rifle calibers...
My source = ATK personel, who work at the Lewiston Idaho facility, I’ve shot with them previously.
Houston area Wal-Marts don't sell ammo anymore, and all Academy carries is the Russian "Wolf" brand. The selection of .308 is crap too - had to sight in my new M1As with expensive 150 grain Winchester Power-Point.
You just can’t own enough 1911s. Absolutely my favorite sidearm - there is a great choice of models and they are as dependable as the sunrise every morning. I’ve got a Taurus PT1911 which I’ve run about 1000 rounds through this summer without a hitch or a hiccup.
Yeeeehaw.
All kidding aside - a well rounded selection of weapons helps a person through those dry spells of popular calibers.
Every collection should have some .303, .30, .308, .30 carbine, 8mm, .22, .223, 7.62x39, 7.62x54R, 12 gage, .357 and .45.
:-)
I’m looking for a 9mm - any recommendations? I’d like something modestly compact, with night sights and 13-15 round capacity. I’ve looked at the Sig P226/P229; nice gun, but overpriced.
.223 of some types from some makers is backordered, which is not the same as all .223 being unavailable. But if the department happened to have standardized on a particular maker who is also supplying military orders, then perhaps
I find that most miltary calibers, while available, are twice as expensive as they were a year or two ago.
