Ammo shortage puts hole in police testing schedule
The Union Leader ^ | August 6, 2007 | STEPHEN BEALE AND GRETA CUYLER

New Hampshire police are facing a record shortage in gun rounds, causing months-long delays in ammunition orders and forcing some departments to postpone annual mandatory tests at local shooting ranges.

Ammunition demands linked to the war in Iraq, increased security after the Sept. 11 terror attacks and rising worldwide demand for raw materials have taken their toll on the supply of ammunition for police departments, according to officials familiar with the firearms industry.

Looks like the price will be going up. I think I'll buy a brick of 7.62 x 39 the next time I'm by Riley's. If they have it.

I did. And Now I know something ain’t quite kosher here. Sounds conspiratorial, but it would seem they want gin up a “crisis” in order to blame the war in Iraq for a lack of ammo at home, which is ludicrous.........

Riley’s has great variety, but the prices are better at WalMart.

We’ve got a couple local shops nearby. Maybe I’ll check them out, too. The place where I bought my SKS has closed, unfortunately. When I bought mine, he had rack after rack of them for $79 apiece. Last I looked, they want upwards of $200 for them. I should have bought a whole rack back in the day :(

Gotta get myself a carbine one of these days. I’ve been looking at the Bushmasters, but the $$$$ factor is hard to get past. I’ve also looked extensively on-line for ammunition (mostly .45 and .380) and it’s hard to find a bargain anywhere right now.

Damn....ammoman.com and Cabelas backordered. Good thing I have 500 rds in the closet.

I am assuming they buy Remington FMJ for their .223

Been doing that a while now. Now components are getting pricey and hard to find.

Brass has a finite lifetime. Careful inspection for a cracked case mouth and dimensions (trim as necessary) is important. Annealing work hardened brass might get a little extra life, but most people don't go that far. You still have to replace the primer, power and bullet each time. Rising prices for metal are making the components more expensive. Rising fuel prices are also impacting the delivery cost of those components. Reloading is still an economic "win" over buying factory ammo in many cases. I reload all my big bore revolver ammo. I've recently started reloading my .30 caliber cartridges as it allows me to make "puffball" rounds with 100 gr Plinker bullets for 100 yard target shooting.

I thought our LEOs were supposed to use non-lethal weapons.
Let ‘em go to the range and use bean bags, rubber bullets, tasers, mace, sound generators , stink bombs, flash bang grenades, silly string, immobilizing foam, bolas, saps, night sticks, billy clubs, etc. That oughta keep ‘em busy till the ammo shows up.

Bushmaster?

Just do it andy58. Then you’ll need to get the matching black shotgun Win 1300 to go with it.

Just something about the sounds of an AR bolt going forward and a 12 gage jacking a round into the chamber to make a heart go all warm and fuzzy.

bang - bangbang

:-)

Solution. Ease up to Maine and gather a whole big bunch of chucking rocks. The illegals find this is an effective weapon on the Texas border (although some use real guns to shoot at BP agents.).
