Disaster Looms in Pakistan

Decorum was abandoned as accusations ricocheted between the wood-panelled walls of Pakistan's national assembly on Monday night. "Murderers! Murderers of innocent people!" screamed an MP from a religious party, his yellow turban shaking as he wagged a finger towards the government benches.

Five female parliamentarians, their faces concealed behind black and white burkas, slapped the benches with open palms. Another mullah stood up and started shouting. The speaker strained to maintain order.

Others were less captivated by the debate on last month's siege of the Red Mosque, in which more than 100 people died. One man snoozed at his desk. Across the vast hall others started whispered conversations. Pastor and His Wife Arrested For Charges of Conversion

BIJAPUR, KARNATAKA STATE, INDIA (ANS) — A pastor and his wife have been arrested on charges of conversion on Thursday, August 9th, in the Bijapur district of Karnataka State, India.

The incident took place as Pastor Victor Paul and his wife Glory were on an outreach doing door to door evangelism, distributing gospel pamphlets in Jala nagar area of Bijapur district. As they went around they came across a man who runs a grocery store in the area. This person requested Pastor Paul to visit his house.
Pastor Paul and his wife went inside his house and shared the gospel with the members of his family and suddenly the man, and one of his colleagues, started to beat the pastor. They badly hit him on his face and head. Then they took their photograph and took them on a rickshaw to the nearby police station. The man lodged a complaint against them on the charges of conversion. The police then arrested the pastor and his wife from his house by 7.30 p.m.

The arrested pastor and his wife will be taken to the Third Judicial First class Magistrate court tomorrow (Friday, August 10). Until then they will remain in Police custody.

Talking to ANS Pastor Paul said, “I request each and every member in the Body of Christ to pray for our release at the earliest.”

Details of the Pastor:

Pastor Victor Paul ministers at a church called Rehoboth House of Worship at S.R colony, Bijapur in Karnataka state in India. He has ministry networks in two other places called Yogapur and Amar Colony. His church has a congregation of 40 members. He has been doing the ministry in this place since one and half years. He has two children named Sam and Vinay.

Warden Message: Old City Protests February 16
U.S. Consulate Jerusalem issued the following Warden Message on August 10, 2007:

At approximately 11:15 a.m. today a shooting occurred in the Christian Quarter of the Old City. Police report that an armed guard was attacked by an unknown male who assaulted him and took his firearm. The assailant then opened fire on the surrounding area before being shot and killed by another armed guard.

At least eight people were injured. It is not yet clear whether they were injured by the gunfire from the assailant or from the armed guards. Jaffa Gate has been closed to the public and there is a heavy police response.

The Consulate General of the United States in Jerusalem has instructed all Consulate employees to stay out of the Old City until the end of the day. Private American citizens are also advised to remain outside of the Old City until the end of the day.

The State Department and the Consulate General urge American citizens to remain vigilant while traveling throughout Jerusalem, especially within the commercial and downtown areas of West Jerusalem and the city center. Israeli security services report that they continue to receive information of planned terrorist attacks in and around Jerusalem. The last terrorist bombing in Jerusalem was on September 22, 2004. Spontaneous or planned protests within the Old City are possible, especially after Friday prayers. Some of these protests have led to violent clashes. The Old City of Jerusalem is off-limits to U.S. Government personnel and their family members after dark during the entire week and between the hours of 11 am and 2 pm on Fridays.

Americans in Israel, Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip are strongly encouraged to register with the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv or the Consular Section of U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem through the State Department’s travel registration website, https://travelregistration.state.gov . U.S. citizens who require emergency services may telephone the Consulate General in Jerusalem at (972) (2) 622-7250 or the Embassy in Tel Aviv at (972) (3) 519-7355.

eh just a question... with debka’s report and NY’s security alerts/beefing up, do you think they are going to start?

we are 1 month pre-911. i am worried that there will be a series of events and a big blow on 9/11..

This report may have something to do with the unease/panic that I have been sensing in Musharef over the last week or so. His gesture toward Bhutto, the report which was then denied about declaring a state of emergency...

I hope that Pak has done everything possible to secure the nukes, although Musharef may not have a complete picture of who is trustworthy/not trustworthy in his administration.
