hey this is all opinion, sorry but how reliable debka in your eyes? i see a ton of freepers dismissing it like last weeks used toilet paper.
But is there any chance they are legit? there was some chatter they reported today. I;m not questioning their content, i’m just questioning how reliable they are. So far they are pretty much 90% on. they aren’t pulling fag rabbits out of a hat.
Anyways from the more knowledgable crowd, is debka reliable? any amount of seriousness with todays posting? (which would fall on every other posting they’ve publicated if this is false)
thanks.

To paraphrase that old TV commercial.........
“Sometimes they feel like a nut. Sometimes they don’t.”
Often, Debka has been spot on. It’s the other 10/20% of reports that gives rise to reliablility questions.
Thanks for your opinion RR. Cuz with a topic like this, is this -really- something you want to totally fabricate out of air? Sounded like an aq pattern, totally.
i may have been a fool in 2003 when OBL on debka said nyc was gonna blow march/april 1st? something like that. it was a major headline on their site for a while.
would that be fabricating? or as per usual, AQ holding off and changing plans?
Some reports are too substansial and detailed to their pattern for me to shrug off easily.
anyhow as usual, as we’ve grown accustomed to- since thye’ve been talking about stuff for 6 years. only time will tell.

Thanks dryman’s wife.

Smiling at you and TGIF, too.

Judge rejects ‘Defensive Jihad’ argument in Abdullah al-Muhajir (José Padilla) trial
This article speaks of “’defensive jihad,’ which differs from terrorism because it is meant to counter aggression against Muslims and does not threaten innocent people.” Which sounds great, until you realize that some Muslims believe that no non-Muslims are innocent, and that unbelief itself is an act of aggression. When self-proclaimed moderate groups take up these contentions and refute them, their moderation will be beyond question. But not until then.
“Judge Rejects ‘Defensive Jihad’ Argument,” by Curt Anderson for Associated Press (thanks to all who sent this in):
MIAMI Jurors who will soon debate the guilt or innocence of Jose Padilla and two other men on terrorism support charges cannot consider whether their actions were justified by Islamic law, a federal judge ruled.
U.S. District Judge Marcia Cooke agreed Thursday to a request from prosecutors to instruct the jurors that each of the men can be convicted even if they “may have believed that the conduct was religiously, politically or morally required, or that ultimate good would result.”
Jurors are expected to begin deliberations after closing statements Monday and Tuesday. Padilla and co-defendants Adham Amin Hassoun and Kifah Wael Jayyousi are charged with being part of a North American support cell that provided finances, supplies and recruits to al-Qaida and other Islamic extremist groups.
A cornerstone of the defense during the nearly three-month trial was the idea that Islamic teaching provides for legitimate “defensive jihad,” which differs from terrorism because it is meant to counter aggression against Muslims and does not threaten innocent people.
But Hassoun attorney Ken Swartz said his closing argument will not focus on whether violent actions might have been justified. Swartz said he plans to emphasize that any money or supplies provided to overseas groups was meant for humanitarian assistance.

“U.S. Admiral: No Russians Near War Games”
Friday, August 10, 2007
By AUDREY McAVOY, Associated Press Writer
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii The U.S. Pacific Fleet commander said Thursday Russian bombers never got within 300 miles of Guam this week and didn’t fly over the U.S. territory as a Russian air force general claimed.
Navy Adm. Robert F. Willard disputed that U.S. fighters intercepted the bombers. The admiral said the Russian aircraft never got close enough to the Pacific island or the massive U.S. military exercises being held nearby, to warrant such action.
“U.S. planes went to an orbit point in preparation for an intercept that never occurred because the Bears didn’t get close enough,” Willard said in an interview using a slang term for the Russian planes.
Earlier, a Russian air force general said a pair of Tu-95 bombers reached Guam as part of an exercise intended to demonstrate the Kremlin’s resurgent military power.”
It is almost a Wow!!! Too many things going on in too many fronts.
Russia is feeling left out. They do not like that we are considered and are the “Super Power.”
OPINION: Russia seems to be operating in a “Cold War” mode.
With Russia’s tendency lately to make nice-nice with most of America’s enemies, one has to be reminded of the way that the world chose up their sides in advance of WWII.
At least I am reminded of that.
I am reminded of that, too.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RELEASE No. 20070810-06
August 10, 2007
Operation William Wallace clears Abu Tina
Multi-National Division North PAO
DIYALA RIVER VALLEY, Iraq Building upon recent success in the Diyala River Valley, Iraqi and Coalition Soldiers conducted Operation William Wallace, Aug. 8, to destroy al-Qaeda elements in the Abu Tina area.
Conducting an early-morning air assault, the 2nd Brigade, 5th Iraqi Army Division, partnered with Soldiers from Troop B, 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, attached to 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, cleared the village; resulting in four terrorists killed, two suspected terrorists detained and a weapons cache discovered.
This mission is important because while it provides a secure environment for the citizens of Abu Tina, it also reduces elements within the area that are known to target nearby villages, said Col. David W. Sutherland, commander of Coalition Forces in Diyala province. Al-Qaida and other terrorist groups have no place in Diyala. We will find them and they will be brought to justice.
While conducting a thorough clearance of Abu Tina, Coalition Forces killed two al-Qaeda members after being engaged in separate incidents. Attack helicopters from the 25th Combat Aviation Brigade killed an additional two armed men as they tactically maneuvered in a canal system around the objective area.
The detainees, one of whom was discovered with the weapons cache, were transferred to a facility for further questioning.
We will continue to take advantage of the increased forces in Baqouba, allowing Iraqi and Coalition Forces to aggressively target other key areas that the terrorists perceive as their safe havens, said Sutherland.

Yes, and they don’t like it.
I agree. Their recent bomber forays over Norway, England, Guam are troubling. At this tenuous time, even ‘sabre rattling’ and shows of force could be construed as a threat. Unlike President Bush, I have not looked into his eyes. But I don’t trust him.
...and let’s not forget Georgia.

Georgia: Proof of missile attack
ARTICLE SNIPPET: TBILISI, Georgia (AP) Georgia said Wednesday it has proof that Russian jets violated its airspace and released a missile that landed near a house. Russia has denied the claim.
Georgias Foreign Ministry issued a formal protest, calling the intrusion and firing of the missile undisguised aggression and a gross violation of sovereignty of the country.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that radar records compatible with NATO standards showed that a Russian Su-24 jet had flown from Russia into Georgia and launched a missile, which did not explode.
Investigators identified the weapon as the Russian-made Raduga Kh-58 missile designed to hit radars, the ministry said. The missile, code-named by NATO as AS-11, carried a warhead of over 300 pounds of TNT, it said. Russias air force has flatly denied that its planes had crossed into Georgias airspace.

Suspicious Man Seen Before Va. Massacre
August 10, 2007 - 6:31pm
By SUE LINDSEY and ZINIE CHEN SAMPSON
Associated Press Writers
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - Two days before the Virginia Tech massacre, witnesses saw a suspicious man in a hooded sweat shirt and found at least one exit door chained shut in the building where Seung Hui Cho killed 30 people, police said Friday.
Cho chained most of the exits of Norris Hall before firing 174 rounds of ammunition in just more than nine minutes there, but investigators said they had no indication he was the person who had chained the exit the first time.
“It would be speculation to suggest that he was practicing locking the doors,” State Police Superintendent Col. Steve Flaherty said in the first update on the investigation in months.”

Arizona cops bust ring smuggling cash to Mexico
Reuters on Yahoo ^ | 8/10/07 | Reuters
Posted on 08/10/2007 6:20:05 PM PDT by NormsRevenge
PHOENIX (Reuters) - A criminal ring that Arizona police said used a shuttle service to smuggle drug and human trafficking profits to Mexico has been broken up with 47 people indicted, authorities said on Friday.
Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard said the firm shuttling passengers from Phoenix to Sonoyta, Caborca and Puerto Penasco in Mexico moved some $2 million a month in dirty money for at least 20 different human and drug trafficking organizations.
The people indicted included drivers and other employees of the shuttle firm. They face a range of charges including money laundering, conspiracy and illegally conducting a business as well as weapons and drug possession.
“(The operation) is very important both because of the dollar volume which has now been cut off ... but also all the other drug and human smuggling operations that were all damaged by this particular effort,” Goddard told Reuters.
Last year U.S. border police arrested more than 1 million immigrants crossing illegally from Mexico, and impounded hundreds of tons of narcotics.
Investigators in Arizona say organized criminal networks haul hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants through the desert state each year, as well drugs including marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin.
The operation involving the Phoenix Police Department and federal law enforcement agencies seized $1.4 million in cash, together with some 3.5 tons of marijuana and 55 pounds (25 kg) of methamphetamine.
Prosecutors said drug dealers would drop off cash to the shuttle van service in Phoenix. The drivers would then strap the money to their bodies, drive to the border crossing at Lukeville in southern Arizona, and then walk the cash south over the border.
Once in Mexico, the cash proceeds were handed on to the various trafficking networks for the payment of an unspecified fee.
Goddard said the cash smuggling operation had likely increased in scale following the success of a recent crackdown on wire transfer firms that had been widely used by criminals to shift hot money.
