“Nazi Archive Records Arrive at Museums”
August 21, 2007 - 7:52pm
WASHINGTON
“Any speculation as to why?”
It’s election year for them (parliamentary in December 2007 and presidential March 2008). Putin is going to try to handpick his successor and to make sure there aren’t any surprises (due to a sudden, catastrophic international situation opening the door to an extremist dark-horse candidate), he is “playing to the base” - - which in Russia ranges from the merely nationalist, to the ultra-nationalist, to the imperialistic neo-communists and neo-fascists. The democratic elements in Russia have for all practical purposes self-destructed (as they have in Iraq) because the totalitarian regimes that destroyed their countries in each case made certain that there is no culture of democracy remaining in either. Elections do not make for a democracy. Putin or a successor in his mold is about the best one can hope for from Russia. Better than a Russian Hitler with nukes.
Sometimes you have to pick your poison.

Russian nationalists likely train bombers: report
Wed Aug 15, 2007 10:19AM EDT
MOSCOW (Reuters) - Radical Russian nationalists are the most likely culprits in a bombing which derailed a Moscow to St. Petersburg express train, Interfax news agency reported on Wednesday, citing a source close to the investigation. “Detectives and investigation staff are working on several angles, however the priority lead is that representatives of extremist nationalist organizations were involved in this terrorist act,” Interfax quoted the source as saying.
A bomb laid on the tracks derailed the train traveling from Moscow to St Petersburg on Monday night, tipping over several carriages and wounding dozens of passengers. No one was killed. The route is one of Russia’s busiest. Radical nationalists are most commonly associated with street attacks on dark-skinned migrant workers, but they have been linked in the past to bomb attacks. Two nationalists were convicted of blowing up a train in 2005 that was traveling to Moscow from the southern Russian region of Chechnya, which has a majority Muslim population.
Thanks for those links/articles Cindy. Russia is getting quite pushy as of late.
God bless him.
OPINION: Yes, our friends the Russians are making their agenda perfectly clear and to ignore it and/or pretend it doesn’t exist would be quite unwise.
Yes, and prayers of comfort and peace that passes our understanding for the father. Amen.

“Taliban Tap Into (UK) Soldiers’ Mobile Phones”

“Taliban tap into soldiers’ mobile phones”
By Sophie Borland
Last Updated: 2:20am BST 22/08/2007
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Taliban insurgents are tapping into the mobile phones of British soldiers in Afghanistan and making threatening calls to their families, according to The Sun.
They are thought to be downloading numbers stored in the phones and then terrorising friends and relatives of the servicemen by calling them with threats.
One wife of an RAF soldier based in Afghanistan claimed to have received a phonecall in the middle of the night telling her that her husband was dead despite the fact he was alive and well.
Servicemen have now been told that they must not use their mobiles as they risk breaching security.
It is a similar ploy to that used by Iraqi insurgents last year who were able to tap in to the phones of British soldiers and make threats to their families and friends.
Last June there were several reports of relatives and friends of servicemen based in Iraq receiving calls in the middle of the night threatening that a son or husband will be killed.
A spokesman from the Ministry of Defence said: Soldiers are specifically told not to take their mobiles phones into the theatre anyway so they should not have them with them in Afghanistan. There is little reason that they would want them as the infrastructure for mobiles is very poor in the country.

“Fears of bird flu pandemic subside”
By Amy Fagan
August 22, 2007
Researchers have discovered numerous changes a flu virus likely would have to make in order to spread as a human pandemic, but so far it seems the avian-flu virus has made just a few of those changes.
“It’s reassuring,” said David Finkelstein, who led a team of researchers from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Their findings were recently published in the Journal of Virology.
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The scientists identified 32 “markers,” or clear differences between influenza viruses found in birds and in those that infect humans.
Scientists hope that by learning these markers they will be able to monitor whether the bird flu, referred to as H5N1, is becoming more of a “human” virus and thus a global threat, Mr. Finkelstein said.”
