Just turned on the news. 35W bridge collapsed in the Mississippi River. Cars, trucks, semis.....
Fires burning, tanker trucks, at least one school bus, more than ten cars......
Just now breaking.......

I saw that. They just got done doing a press conf with a doctor at HCMC and he says that they have one dead on site - probably due to drowning.
You can bet the FBI is screening their phone calls and their websites rught now for just such a reaction.
I said the same thing to my Hubby a little while ago.

Just exactly what SHOULD HS or other LE say at this point? Media is screaming at them "Is it terrorism, is it terrorism?"
I don't care if they are all Superman, at this point, H + 90 minutes, roughly, any central spokesman knows about what the rest of us know (unless, of course, someone was seen planes flying into the bridge, RPGs, etc).
Isn't the right answer, at this moment, "I don't know, we have no evidence of anything right now, we're working it as hard as we can, consistent with rescue." ?
And would not the media report that as "No evidence of terorism"?
Or would you prefer: "We don't know squat, but we're real suspicious of Muslims" as the stock reponse to any and all disasters (Texas liquefied gas, bridge grates anywhere, highway cave-ins, guys in NYC who blow up themselves and their house so wifey won't get it, etc., etc.)
There are real terrorists, and they do really bad things -- but there are also ordinary human disasters, in far greater numbers (at least right now).
Every media report I've heard since this broke has mentioned a heat wave. Take it up with them. I'm in Penna.
THere it is. THe bridge was found to be collapsing last year. I'll bet they had a meeting or 2 about that.
And if they found all the defects, it was not a contributing factor. But not if they did not.

That’s not hot for concrete or steel. It was over 90 here today as well. At least 1/3 of the country considers that to be pretty cool.
That’s the photo where it looks to me like the concrete footing pair may have settled. The lower left pillar appears leaning towards the river.
This is the kind of speculation that gives FR a bad name. Remember the hotel deck in KC that collapsed about 20 years before anyone heard of AQ? Was that terrorism? How about the bridge in CT that dived about 20 years ago? Sometimes engineers FU. Sh@@ happens.
