No terror link apparent in bridge collapse: US government

WASHINGTON (AFP) - There are no signs that a terror attack was behind the collapse of a bridge Wednesday in Minneapolis, Minnesota that sent cars and trucks tumbling into the Mississippi River, the Department of Homesland Security told AFP.
“There are no indications of a nexus to terrorism at this time. We continue to monitor the situation. State and local officials have the lead in rescue and response efforts,” Russ Knocke, a DHS spokesperson, told AFP.
Dunno if this has been reported yet, but y’all can let out a collective sigh of relief now.
The “support” looks to be the size of a large rolling pin. Yeah, that’ll hold up 100 tons of traffic.
Homeland Security expects a terrorist group to call them immediately after the attack, to claim responsibility and then to actually prove that responsibility beyond a reasonable doubt. No idea what happened here, but we can at least be fairly certain that we are not under attack from Martians.
Thank God your OK.
I agree totally. I don’t know how anyone makes such statements so early on either.
Every time I drive over a bridge, I pray that the engineers and the builders were perfectionists and did not cut any corners. As the Bible says, “One who is slack in his work is a brother to one who destroys.”
OH my gosh......what a frightening pic.
Not here.
And the first word of a sentence is always capitalized.
But, hey.. if you wish to make FR look like it is populated with teens, feel free.
Adults don't write that way.
You are safe! Angels were watching over you, tonight.
That is stunning. I can’t imagine the carnage or death in the water. God bless!
Governor Pawlenty to issue a press conference near the bridge per WCCO.com
And let's say for the sake of argument that they knew it was terrorism, and they had an idea where the terrorists were. By not saying right away it's terrorism, it could lull the terrorists into a false sense of security and make them easier to catch.
What engineers know and the public doesn't understand is that many (most?) man-made systems have small undetected defects in place that alone cannot cause failure, but in the right circumstances will contribute to catastrophic failure.
That's just the way of the world.
Id say MSNBC sounds the most professional at this point.
$$$$$
I agree. Perhaps it was a local NBC reporter, instead of a cable guy. Shep is worse than useless.
There are no indications of a nexus to terrorism at this time. We continue to monitor the situation. Call back tomorrow and we will give you more of the same BS.” Russ Knocke, a DHS spokesperson, told AFP.
I think Shep and Fox are doing an outstanding job of covering this catastrophe. Much better than any other network.
“Muslims generally get wind of upcoming attacks and are usually celebrating as soon as they happen.
If there’ a lot of that, we can start to assume something.”
My question is, does anyone know where to look to see if any terror organizations are mentioning this? Or responsibility?
It was a pretty tense hour for me seeing as how my mother just went up there yesterday for her 50th highschool reunion. Thankfully (for my own sanity) she had the sense to call me a few minutes ago. She would have called sooner but she said the local news said, in order to keep communications open, people should not make phone calls.
I live one block from where the Silver Bridge fell on Dec. 15, 1967. The pictures from MN look like the aftermath of the bridge fall here. Prayers for all the victims.
Doctor at HCMC says that he believes they have seen the worst casualties already.
