FALLUJAH, Iraq Iraqi Security Forces conducted a helicopter assault raid July 28 detaining two known al Qaeda in Iraq cell members suspected of numerous crimes including murdering and intimidating Iraqi citizens and improvised explosive device attacks against Coalition Forces.
With U.S. Special Operations Forces present as advisers, Iraqi police detained their primary suspects without incident in a remote area northwest of Taji.
The detained individuals are high-level members of an al Qaeda cell in the Qaryat al Majarrah region and directly linked to a cell leader who was also detained in the same area July 20. The first detainee is allegedly responsible for placing multiple IEDs and carrying out murder and intimidation campaigns against Iraqi citizens. The second detainee is purportedly an al Qaeda lieutenant who allegedly has ties to an IED cell in Ramadi. He has also claimed responsibility for murders in Qaryat al Majarrah and the al Tash region.
The capture and detainment of these two individuals will further inhibit al Qaeda activities in Western Iraq and reduce attacks in Ramadi and Qaryat al Majarrah areas, a U.S. Special Operations Forces commander stated following the mission. It also shows that the Government of Iraq will not allow anti-Iraqi Forces to interfere with the Iraqi government and their plans to stabilize the al Anbar area.
No Iraqi or Coalition Forces were injured during this operation.

Im sure theyre being treated with loving kindness, prayer rugs, dental, and proper meals.. Well, I would certainly hope so. There was that one video, though, of the Iraqi prisoner sobbing openly at the prospect of being turned over to his countrymen...you remember, the one where the Corpsman finishes with "Sucks to be you, dude..." ;-)

"The capture and detainment of these two individuals will further inhibit al Qaeda activities . . . ."Could be possibly go a step further by eradicating these two individuals altogether?

The detained individuals are high-level members of an al Qaeda cell in the Qaryat al Majarrah region Yah gotta be shittin me.. What the f$#k is going on.
We're detaining "high level members" of al Qaeda??????
This may help explain why we are where we are in Iraq.
High, medium, & low level al Qaeda members should be shot on the spot like we did with SS at the end of WW2.

Where are we? good question..
Firstly, we're not at war in Iraq. We're in a peace keeping and police action mode. Trying to keep waring factions apart, tracking down & "detaining" terrorists (who are essentially criminals).
We're in a murky area - mostly in a stalemate situation. In some areas we're making progress, but at a snails pace.
Progress is not entirely in our hands as much as it is in the actions and intentions of different warring factions.
If they intend to keep fighting each other and killing our guys while they're at it, then we can't (or won't) stop them - we can only slow it down and keep a lid on the pot.
That said, our boys have done everything asked and expected of them - even more.
OTOH, War is WW2 - in Germany when we came across towns or villages which gave resistance, the Air Force and/or artillery wiped it off the face of the earth.
We won't or can't do what it really takes to subdue a civilian population where tribes and factions hate each other historically. Because then we'd have to be ruthless like Saddam and becoming like him defeats the whole purpose of the exercise.
