There is more to this that meets the eye.
Although the parents should probably not have mentioned the child’s condition if they didn’t want a negative reaction, the attitude of the park owner is stunning. Does he think that everyone with AIDS or HIV announces their status before jumping into the pool? He and his guests have probably swam with other folks with HIV and just didn’t know it.
A couple of days ago my daughter’s swim team cancelled their daily workouts when a tyke getting a lesson in the shallow end had an “accident” in the pool.
Someone should post a pic of the Snickers Bar scene from Caddy Shack.
Oh, ugh. Apparently the foster mother here ran her mouth about the child’s HIV status, and the owner of the place told her he needed some documentation about safety before letting the child use common facilities. Offended by the request, she then went to the media to air her grievance.
Too bad for the child, but I don’t blame the park owner, a lawyer may argue differently.
Not buying it. How did these people at the RV park happen to find out that this baby has AIDS?
For many reasons I don’t think we’re hearing the truth of this story.
The truth of the matter is revealed sometime later in the article. The woman talks too much and offered up information that created a problem where none existed previously.
Madam, would you like some salt to go with your foot, might make it taste better.
I guess I missed it. How did they find out the child was HIV positive?
It's not the child's fault it got HIV, it's not my fault to not want anything to do with it either.
Neil Young’s Alabama lyrics.
Oh alabama
The devil fools with the best laid plan.
Swing low alabama
You got spare change
You got to feel strange
And now the moment is all that it meant.
Alabama, you got the weight on your shoulders
Thats breaking your back.
Your cadillac has got a wheel in the ditch
And a wheel on the track
Oh alabama
Banjos playing through the broken glass
Windows down in alabama.
See the old folks tied in white ropes
Hear the banjo.
Dont it take you down home?
Alabama, you got the weight on your shoulders
Thats breaking your back.
Your cadillac has got a wheel in the ditch
And a wheel on the track
Oh alabama.
Can I see you and shake your hand.
Make friends down in alabama.
Im from a new land
I come to you and see all this ruin
What are you doing alabama?
You got the rest of the union to help you along
Whats going wrong?
Obviously, the child’s happiness is more important than the health of others.
Or the other choice was to potentially expose others to an uncurable and deadly disease that has a lifetime of expensive and extensive treatment without their knowledge or consent.
Maybe the Glovers should be the bad guys in this story.
Life should not include painful choices--I say SUE!
My understanding is that chlorine kills AIDS/HIV virus outside the body, so a well chlorinated pool is a safer place then a public restroom.
Sheer HIV ignorance run amok...
1) It’s not his or my responsibility to prove anything. It's his pool and he's surely aware of the fact that his other guests have their opinions about it.
2) Two year old children poop and pee and spit and bleed and bite people in pools every single day... I don’t swim with them if at all possible, regardless of their HIV status. But knowing they have HIV would definitely weigh heavily on my decision.
3) If you say that you can’t catch HIV in that pool, and yet you don’t even know the chemical status of the pool, then you’re letting your emotions rule you.
What is the...
-Free Chlorine
-Combined Cholorine
-Temperature
-PH
-Cyanuric Acid level
If I know what those are then I can make a better decision regarding the likelihood of a particular virus to propagate in the water. If I don’t know what those are then discretion is more than appropriate.
Poor man! I'm sure they're wonderful people. The child is sweet. The Mrs. just chatted a bit too much and gave out too much information.
Still, the owner acted responsibly by asking for documentation from a doctor. He also might've worried that the woman would chat more with other people at the pool, and then he would have to deal with complaints from them and maybe even a loss of business.
I’d be more concerned of people not catching it in the water but outside the water. there’s alot of slippery concrete around pools, 2 yr olds do what 2 yr olds do, they wander of a bit, mingle with other 2 yr olds, fall, bleed, ect. A child that young with HIV doesn’t have the knowledge to protect others from themselves.
Total garbage. The kid can swim with me any day!
