Bombing plots ‘were carried out with bin Laden’s blessing’
The London and Glasgow bomb plots were carried out with the approval of Osama bin Laden, the al-Qaeda leader, a top foreign intelligence source said last night.
“It was an established fact from Day 1 that al-Qaeda was behind this and it was planned by its followers in Great Britain with bin Laden’s blessing,” the source told The Times.
British security officials were more guarded, saying that it was too early to say whether the plot was masterminded by some foreign hand or hatched in Britain.
The warning an al-Qaeda leader in Iraq delivered to Canon Andrew White, a British cleric working in Baghdad, in April certainly suggested that he knew of the doctors’ plot. “Those who cure you will kill you,” the man said.
The Times also learnt yesterday that Bilal Abdulla, 27, the Iraqi doctor who allegedly helped to drive a Jeep into the front of Glasgow airport last Saturday, disappeared for a year during his medical training in Baghdad. He is thought to have visited Pakistan or Lebanon.
A friend who attended the Medical College of Baghdad University with Dr Abdulla told The Times that he was a religious fanatic, and that in 2001 or 2002 he mysteriously abandoned his studies for a year.
“There was some talk that he went outside Iraq to develop his religious culture. I heard that he went to Lebanon or Pakistan,” the friend said.

I think it’s time for Bin Laden to show himself to prove he’s still alive. While he’s at it he can explain to his minions why he hasn’t “martyred himself in the belly of the eagle” like he promised a few years back.

But what do you think the “belly of the eagle” meant? I always thought it meant that he was here in the US, or at any rate wanted and planned to be here, before his unfortunate death. Do you have any ideas on this?

The belly of the eagle could also be a reference to Iraq. They also use an eagle as a national symbol.

It sounds like a fancy phrase but in truth is probably just a name for a certain place. How about a "cave"? Maybe they have an "Eagle Point" or something like that??
That’s very possible. I guess his corpse must be desiccating in the desert then.
But I have always thought this referred to the US. There was a bizarre scare a few years ago about cargo containers entering the US, and I vaguely recall that his name came up in connection with this. But unfortunately at this distance, I couldn’t provide any links and - who knows - it might simply have been my own bizarre interpretation of something I read.
There’s an Eagle City in Pakistan.
I live in Florida, and for many years, there was a dispute about where a certain early Spanish settlement on the Gulf Coast had been located. Researchers were always out there digging around - until somebody suggested that they look at a local place named (in English) Spanish Point. And guess what - that’s where they found the remains of the settlement. This information had been carried along and incorporated into the English name of the place later on.
So that’s also a real possibility. But would there be someplace here that might have a name involving an eagle? Or a symbol?
That said, I still think he’s dead.
In 20 years from now, are we still going to be asking for Bin Laden to “come out and show himself.”

Forget it. That moron assumed room-temperature years ago. They probably stuffed him and hung him on a cave wall. If that bastard was alive he’d be showing up on tape. I suspect DC has known he expired for some time but it’s always nice to have a bogeyman!
