DNC Mailing against Fred Thompson
Email ^ | 6/19/2007 | Tom McMahon

Posted on 06/19/2007 9:54:21 AM PDT by Greystoke

Remember the Republican culture of corruption? The revolving door of Republican politicians moving in and out of top political offices and Washington D.C. lobbying firms? That's Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson. For years, acting wasn't the Law & Order star's profession -- it was a hobby. In the real world, Thompson has made a fortune in a decades-long career as a Washington lobbyist.

And just this month, as part of his role as the ultimate Washington insider, Thompson offered to host yet another fundraising event for Scooter Libby's legal defense fund. Thompson has been vocal in his support of Libby, saying that he would "absolutely" pardon him.

As he runs for president, he'll try his hardest to hide the truth from the American people. And we need to stop him.

Support our efforts to get the truth out about Fred Thompson:

http://www.democrats.org/StopTheAct

Here's what the USA Today had to say about Lobbyist Thompson:

Although the folksy-sounding Tennessean recently told USA TODAY that he would run an outsider, just as he did while campaigning as a "country lawyer" in a red pickup during his 1994 U.S. Senate race, his résumé is that of a longtime Washington operative who has crossed ideological lines to represent corporate and foreign clients.

In his most recent stint in Washington, Thompson worked for a London company lobbying Congress to limit liability claims for asbestos-related illnesses. Over the past three years he's made $760,000 fighting for the interests of his corporate clients.

Now Fred Thompson wants the American people to believe he's the next Ronald Reagan -- a Washington outsider with Hollywood charisma and conservative appeal. But Thompson just plays the role of straight-shooting outsider on TV. In reality, he's as inside as you can get.

He's trying to get to the White House on slick lines and good acting. Help us stop him:

http://www.democrats.org/StopTheAct

As Fred Thompson tries to go from Washington's K Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, the stakes of his candidacy couldn't be higher. In an interview just last week, for example, he claimed that the Roe v. Wade decision "was fabricated out of whole cloth," and that it was the worst court ruling in the past 40 years.

We need to make sure that in 2008, Fred Thompson goes back to doing his acting on Law & Order -- not in the White House.

Make a contribution today:

http://www.democrats.org/StopTheAct

While the Democratic presidential candidates hit the campaign trail, we'll be hitting the Republicans. It's our job to tell the American people the facts about opponents like Fred Thompson and to hold them accountable.

We can't finish that job without you. I hope you'll join us.

Sincerely,

Tom McMahon DNC Executive Director

Thats it? Thats it?

They cant stand the fact that Fred was a former lobbyist?

Well, then how do they feel about Jim Talent?

Among others:

Lots of lobbyists have returned to Congress to work for the new Democratic majority. Former Verizon lobbyist Gregg Rothschild is chief counsel at Energy and Commerce. The chief of staff to the House Rules Committee is Daniel A. Turton, a former lobbyist for Timmons & Co., which represents the American Petroleum Institute and DaimlerChrysler. And two freshman Democratic senators have former lobbyists as chiefs of staff: Sherrod Brown (Ohio), whose CoS is James Heimbach, an ex-lobbyist with Ricchetti Inc. (whose clients include General Motors, Sanofi-Aventis and AT&T); and Claire McCaskill (Mo.), whose top aide, Sean Kennedy, worked for AT&T.

The most jaw-dropping hire from K Street, though, is Matt Gelman. Gelman is senior adviser to House Democratic Whip James E. Clyburn (S.C.) and is, in effect, on loan from Microsoft, where he is director of federal government affairs. He's on unpaid leave for a few months from the software giant and will return after he helps build Clyburn's vote-counting operation.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/01/15/AR2007011501047_pf.html

But I guess it's ok when a Democrat is a "former lobbyist".

ps. Methinks Rudy will be the Perot of 2008.

If that's the case, then it's better for the Repubs., because Rudy would pull more voters from Her Heinous than from Fred.

We should dub him “Judge Fred” a play on the comic book character Judge Dred.

“Ahh and Fred and Hillary debate. Can you imagine it! Better than any Super Bowl to date.”

I can hear him already, in his best Tennessee stud drawl, “Now darlin’ calm down, yer gonna mess yer pantsuit.”

It is a bad idea for Fred to run as an outsider. He isn't and he is going to take a lot of heat for it.

Heat from whom? Hillary, the ultimate Washington insider? Nope, this stuff is not what they're going to use during the general election. Right now, they're using it to keep the Reagan Democrats on the reservation.

Using something stupid like "Fred Thompson supports a pardon for Libby" doesn't work on Republicans, but since Libby is the whipping boy for all the moonbats who want somebody to pay for the war in Iraq. If that keeps a Democrat from voting for Fred, they're willing to look foolish by drawing the connection.

Watch for tactics to switch right after Fred announces.

Rooty or McCrazy wouldn’t have the financial backing for a third party run. Their funds will dry up once its clear they can’t win the nomination.

Bloomburg can fund his own campaign but he didn’t get rich by being that stupid.

He would only run if Republicans nominated a wishy washy squish like Rooty that would split the party.

With Fred running strong with the base and crossover appeal I don’t see BloomingIdiot wasting his money.

Don’t be so sure.

Methinks about 40% vote democrat no matter what.

Also, a third party candidate doesn’t have to compete in many states to be a spoiler.

If Guiliani is able to take 15% of the (r) vote in Florida, Pennsylvania and Ohio it would be Hello Hillary.

The fact that this email doesn’t address a single issue and instead tries to broadbrush his character is evidence that they fear Fred.

Hi Spy!

In the real world, Thompson has made a fortune in a decades-long career as a Washington lobbyist.

Good for him! As if no Dim has ever had a career as a lobbist. Keep enjoying you spying, Greystoke

Methinks Rudy will be the Perot of 2008.

Maybe, but I think McCain is the one the DNC's been grooming for the spot. He's just egotistical, and crazy enough to do it, and he'd only need to draw off a few pecent for Hillary to do what Bill did in '92 and '96 - win without a majority.
