DNC Mailing against Fred Thompson
Email ^ | 6/19/2007 | Tom McMahon

Posted on 06/19/2007 9:54:21 AM PDT by Greystoke

Remember the Republican culture of corruption? The revolving door of Republican politicians moving in and out of top political offices and Washington D.C. lobbying firms? That's Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson. For years, acting wasn't the Law & Order star's profession -- it was a hobby. In the real world, Thompson has made a fortune in a decades-long career as a Washington lobbyist.

And just this month, as part of his role as the ultimate Washington insider, Thompson offered to host yet another fundraising event for Scooter Libby's legal defense fund. Thompson has been vocal in his support of Libby, saying that he would "absolutely" pardon him.

As he runs for president, he'll try his hardest to hide the truth from the American people. And we need to stop him.

Support our efforts to get the truth out about Fred Thompson:

http://www.democrats.org/StopTheAct

Here's what the USA Today had to say about Lobbyist Thompson:

Although the folksy-sounding Tennessean recently told USA TODAY that he would run an outsider, just as he did while campaigning as a "country lawyer" in a red pickup during his 1994 U.S. Senate race, his résumé is that of a longtime Washington operative who has crossed ideological lines to represent corporate and foreign clients.

In his most recent stint in Washington, Thompson worked for a London company lobbying Congress to limit liability claims for asbestos-related illnesses. Over the past three years he's made $760,000 fighting for the interests of his corporate clients.

Now Fred Thompson wants the American people to believe he's the next Ronald Reagan -- a Washington outsider with Hollywood charisma and conservative appeal. But Thompson just plays the role of straight-shooting outsider on TV. In reality, he's as inside as you can get.

He's trying to get to the White House on slick lines and good acting. Help us stop him:

http://www.democrats.org/StopTheAct

As Fred Thompson tries to go from Washington's K Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, the stakes of his candidacy couldn't be higher. In an interview just last week, for example, he claimed that the Roe v. Wade decision "was fabricated out of whole cloth," and that it was the worst court ruling in the past 40 years.

We need to make sure that in 2008, Fred Thompson goes back to doing his acting on Law & Order -- not in the White House.

Make a contribution today:

http://www.democrats.org/StopTheAct

While the Democratic presidential candidates hit the campaign trail, we'll be hitting the Republicans. It's our job to tell the American people the facts about opponents like Fred Thompson and to hold them accountable.

We can't finish that job without you. I hope you'll join us.

Sincerely,

Tom McMahon DNC Executive Director

If he’s trying to hide the ‘truth’ that he supports Scooter Libby, he’s doing a terrible job of it.

No kidding! I kinda figured out he supports Libby from his ABC NEWS ARTICLE he wrote in which he states he supports Libby. But I'm sure that's just a slip-up on Fred's part. He really doesn't want anyone to know he supports Libby.

:-)

So I suppose no one connected to any Democrat is a lobbyist? Oh wait, all their kids are lobbyists...

Are you serious? Did you save any of that? I’d LOVE to see that!

I said a few days ago that Fred would pull off some Reagan Dems...putting states like Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Oregon, and maybe a few others in play.

Don’t see Maryland going GOP though. Not unless Algore runs as a Green or something to siphon the moonbat vote.

“Ahh and Fred and Hillary debate. Can you imagine it! Better than any Super Bowl to date.”

I would love to watch Fred open up a sizable can of Whoop-a@@ on the queen of darkness. The the crushing commence!

It is a bad idea for Fred to run as an outsider. He isn't and he is going to take a lot of heat for it.

He needs to not label himself at all and just make his case to the American people.

So what? Lots of RAT lobbyists make 760K in a couple of months.

I agree completely. A man with his CV, who still lives inside the Beltway and rubs elbows with the DC political class is not an outsider. He has no need to try to portray himself as one, so as you say, he should just make his case and forget the spin.

I think he’s doing it right. He’s actually establishing himself as a guy with inside connections who isn’t “of” Washington (i.e., he had a private non-DC life for years) and it’s a balancing act but I think he’s approached it correctly so far.

$760,000 in 3 years? You do the math. That ain’t so much.

Run, Fred, run. And do not suffer the fools.

“Remember the Republican culture of corruption?”

No. I remember a coordinated series of attacks by the DNC colluding with Big Media. You know, like how they sat on “compromising” emails and IMs from Mark Foley and a Democrat aide. Sat on those emails and IMs for a year and then pointed fingers at the GOP for “not doing anything” (when the GOP had not even seen these communications).

“The revolving door of Republican politicians moving in and out of top political offices and Washington D.C. lobbying firms?”

I remember a series of show trials and partisan witchhunts. Newt, Frist, Packwood, Bork, DeLay, Lott, etc. etc.

What of William Jefferson, Nancy Pelosi, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Ted Kennedy, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson,...

Lost me at the first 2 sentences.

Any Federalist (like Fred) is an outsider in the most important way, even if they sleep in a pup tent under the Capitol rotunda every night.

I would encourage all FReepers to sign up at the Hillary and the Obama site, or just the DNC site, to keep up with the enemy.

Boohoo, how terrible, but wasn’t Bill Clinton the President who allowed a missile guidance firm Loral to sell missile guidance components to the Red Chinese so they could target American cities. Oh and Hillary wouldn’t allow military officers to wear their uniforms at the White House (source book Dereliction of Duty).

Actually, that sounds a lot like a Reagan quote I really found amusing:

"We've heard a great deal about Republican "fat cats," and how the Republicans are the party of big contributions. I've never been able to understand why a Republican contributor is a "fat cat" and a Democratic contributor of the same amount of money is a "public-spirited philanthropist."

Heh, good to know what the ‘enemy’ is thinking, and what their talking points will be. Have they put out any similar hit pieces on any of the other Repub. primary candidates?

I’m tellin’ ya, the Dems are very, very nevrous about Thompson.

Here’s the deal, a lot of Democrats hate Hillary, and think Obama is a lightweight regardless of what the Paris Hilton/MTV wing of the Democratic Party thinks. There are simply NOT many real options for Democrats and Fred Thompson will eat into their base big time!
