Ottawa, ON (AHN) - A medical journal has reported a case of a one-week-old infant who died from complications after being circumcised in an unidentified hospital in Ontario, Canada.
In its April 2007 edition, Paediatrics and Child Health reported a case in which an infant, whose parents did not want him identified, was brought back to his family doctor by his parents 5 hours after he had been circumcised. At that time, his parents said he was "very irritable and had blue discoloration below the umbilicus when he cried." The baby's physicians sent the child home.
The baby's parents took him to another hospital 14 hours after his circumcision because he was still irritable and his penis was swollen. Dr. Jim Cairns, who is the deputy chief coroner in Ontario, said that at that time, doctors found the baby's bladder was "seven or eight times its normal size."
The baby boy subsequently died after going into septic shock, which Dr. Cairns said is "an overwhelming infection, leading to multi-organ failure."
Dr. Cairns, who became involved because the provincial coroner's office must review all deaths of all children younger than 5 in the province of Ontario, said that death is a rare complication of circumcision.
Braggart.
The reason the armed forces started circumcising in the middle of the war was because of the horrors that came out of the Pacific/Asian prison camps.
The “hygiene” was non-existant and the uncircumsised suffered the most.
That is also why most (unless the parents said no) male babies born in hospitals since WW II are circumcised.
Doctor’s mistakes kill many people every year.Circumcision ought to be treated more carefully because everything is smaller and a slight error can be more dangerous to a baby. Now and again we read of a botched circumcision effectively neutering the poor infant.
It’s really sad that so many babies are irreversibly mutilated in this country. Circumcision is just as barbaric as a clitoridectomy and was proven long ago to provide no health benefit.
He alway said, if I knew they were gonna do that I wouldn’t have signed up
Why on earth??
I have never heard of anyone being circumcised when joining the military.
And allow me to self-correct. Barbaric should have been in quotes. (Your term, not mine.)
I’m not bragging. I’m kinda embarrassed they only left me with 75 lbs.
Obviously you've no idea what you are talking about................
Utter nonsense. Circumcision is a good thing, which benefits the boys/mens health and sexual live. I am circumcised, as are most other Americans (not to speak of those doing it for religious reasons) and I had no whatsoever problems, which are often prevalent among non-circumcised men.
I am tired of those studies trying to prove the “badness” of circumcision. I thank my parents for getting it done early on.
It’s the greatest thing since sliced bread (Lol!).
- There are 700,000 physicians in the United States.
— There are 120,000 accidental deaths in the United States caused by physicians every year, and the accidental death percentage per physician is 0.171.
— There are 80 million gun owners in the United States.
— There are 1,500 accidental deaths from guns every year, regardless of age group, and the accidental death percentage per gun owner is 0.0000188.
This means, the letter points out, that doctors are 9,000 times more deadly than gun owners.
Its been shown to reduce the occurence of carcinoma of the penis to essentially nothing, to minimize the spread of STDs, and to prevent infection. Sounds like a good thing in my book.

The reason the practice was started in the first place was to make it difficult to masturbate - link
Mutilating baby boys is one of the worst medical practices still perpetuated today. If you are considering doing this at least just wait until your son is old enough to understand the consequences.
Socialized Medicine may be responsible.
You say you are circumcised and I assume it was done to you as an infant. Therefore you have no frame of reference to know what you are missing. You may feel the need to defend the practice because you have already done it to your son - but that does not make it right.
You’re correct! :)
That makes sense, too.
I guess, I’m just wondering if it was the circumcision itself that was the cause of death, or really *botched*. I know some of the anti-circumcision feeling out there and wonder if the headline is somewhat misleading.
It sounds more like botched medical care following the procedure was the cause.
A friend of mine said that her grandfather insisted on all his boys and grandsons being circumcised. Seems that he was in WWI and there was a real problem with gangrene in uncircumcised men.
CIRCUMCISION IS PRIMITIVE, AT BEST. IT IS NOT INDICATED FOR ANY CHRISTIAN !!! THE CHILD PRODUCES SCHIZOPHRENIC BRAIN WAVE PATTERNS.... AND ENDURES PAIN WITHOUT ANALGESIC, THAT NO ‘BRAVE’ MALE WOULD ENDURE. THE USE OF THIS PROCEDURE DEMONSTRATES GREAT IGNORANCE. THE ONLY POSSIBLE INDICATION IS IN CERTAIN VERY HOT CLIMATES — AND EVEN THIS IS A CONDITIONAL PROPOSITION. NORTH AMERICAN MEDICAL IGNORANCE IS ABYSMAL. BIRTHING AND INFANT CARE ARE PARTICULARLY PATHETIC IN THE SCOPE OF KNOWLEDGE OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC.
Mrs. Esopman
My uncle had to have it done as a teen because of recurrent infections and she said he suffered horribly at that age.
It is right, because I think it’s right. Yes I have my son circumcised, just as I was circumcised as an infant.
I don’t feel the need to defend it. It’s a normal thing which was done to male members in our family since generations without second thoughts.
I’m not afraid to have missed anything. Actually some of my friends (at high school) who were not circumcised, regretted it, and whished they had an circumcision early on. When older, it becomes psychologically more difficult to have an circumcision. I never heard anyone (infant or adult circ) complain about it.
I don’t intend to reveal my private life, but since it’s relevant, I’ll just say that I and my wife never had any problems, quite the opposite.
