Bigotry always is sinful, even if the target are 'illegal'
Daily Southtown ^ | June 1, 2007 | Andrew Greeley

Posted on 06/05/2007 2:49:00 AM PDT by B. Chezwick

Bigotry never goes away. When it becomes unfashionable, it goes underground and waits until a new hate group appears into which it can project its twisted sickness.

Racism, anti-Semitism, anti-Catholicism and anti-immigrant nativism are chronic infections in the American body politic. Rush Limbaugh singing his obscene tune "Barack the Magic Negro" is inviting prejudice and violence.

However, for pure irrational rage, the current crop of nativists are some of the worst to come along since the Ku Klux Klan of the 1920s or those God-fearing Protestants who burned convents in Boston in the 19th century.

Here is a link to FATHER Greeley’s books.

I remember back 30 years that the good Father was in do do with the Vatican for the content of some of his books. But I will search further.

The actual biblical directive was for landowners to ALLOW the poor to come and glean their fields after the harvest.

That is right. It was not stealing because it was legal. And you had to eat the gleanings on the land and if you took any food out of the field, then you were stealing and it was not only a sin, but a crime.

Our family has some personal experience of the morality of “Father” Andrew Greeley.

Care to elaborate or is it too painful?

No offense intended.

I have respect for a Norteño or caballero who abides by the rule of law, but little respect for the Marxist Sureño agitators flooding in here.

There is a difference and I do know what it is. I have hunting buddies who are cabelleros and they want the wetbacks out of here.

If they want to be Mexicans, they can stay in Mexico. This is the United States and if they want to have allegiance to Mexico, then they can get the hell out.

Just because a person is too bigoted to understand the opposition is to ILLEGAL acts rather than to the race does not mean they can honestly project their own bigotry on people like me who oppose ILLEGAL immigration.

I am opposed to allowing millions of people from one culture/race and denying that same opportunity to the hundreds of other cultures around the world.

how about that commandment about bearing false witness?

Greeley doesn't care about that commandment.

For all his pretense of being an important philospher, he can't handle thinking about complex issues, without jumping immediately to his own favorite, self-determined conclusions.

Wetbacks? Do you have anything chinaman or wop friends? Any negros in your area? Your hatred of Stripes clearly places you within the mentally challenged, so I won’t hold it against you.

These days are the beginning of the end of the United States. The United States in becoming balkanize. Aztlan can become a divided and hostile territory in the future thanks to President Bush policies.

Selling out America ends here.

Then, isn't it bigotry to call people "nativists..." ?

That's a good point, and the "nativism" charge is an interesting charge since (as I understand it) the leftist claim is that Euro-Americans are "foreign invaders" and Hispanics are "indigenous" (just like the language they speak! [/sarcasm]). How can foreigners be nativists? How can indigenous people not be?

Rush Limbaugh singing his obscene tune "Barack the Magic Negro" is inviting prejudice and violence.

What a totally bigoted accusation!

The author knows nothing of Rush and the "Barack the Magic Negro" parody.

In an article on bigotry he displays his own bigotry and hatred for those with opposite political views. Obviously, he feels anyone of a contrary mind as inferior.

Political correctness makes certain words off limits and the definitions of which words are racist changes over time.

Racism isn’t defined by using certain words, although the left would like for you to believe this.

It can be a indicator that a person might be racist, but it is not the defining characteristic.

Wetbacks? Any negros in your area?

I think you Sureños would call them "chongo" or "myata" in Spanish. I have more than just a few Norteño friends Who have no allegiance at all to Mexico.

If you want to have allegiance to Mexico, go there. This is the United States.

Your hatred of Stripes...

Never said I hated Stripes. The movie just sucks and it is another Hollywood degrading of our military, portraying the American soldier as an idiot. Screw Hollywood and all of those perverts...

Since Greeley is a world citizen and not merely an American or Canadian (or whatever he is), let him go live in Africa, China or the Middle East so he can preach the good news there...

The thing is, the anti-nation, anti-borders, anti-sovereignty, globalism ideology exists only among the First World Left. The Third World Left is fanatically nationalist, jealous of the sovereignty of its nations, and subscribes to a cult of "indigenousness" that makes nineteenth century American "Know-Nothings" seem like Boss Tweed in comparison (I've long maintained the model of the contemporary Third World Left is not so much the USSR as World War II-era Japan). The radical Mexicans who are coming here aren't doing it to create an integrated "North American Union" but to take back the "violated" mother soil which allegedly produced him and to expel the "foreign devil."

I wonder which side is going to be surprised in the end?

The liberals don’t get it!!!

This is all akin to a life boat. The United States has always been the most generous nation on earth.

Americans have reached out to aid those around the globe in time of need whether it be natural disaster or need of liberation from tyrannical governments.

Here at home, we can only take so many into the lifeboat. Keep filling the lifeboat above it’s capacity...we all sink.

Then there will be no more lifeboat. America is there...now.

We need a moratorium on immigration for at least the next five years. Our society will collapse if we do not stop immigration now and get a handle on the influx from the last ten years.

Our nations internal aid programs are going to crumble if this immigration bill passes. Social Security, Medicare and the like are at their breaking point.

Illegal or legal, we should curtail immigration significantly until our nation becomes healthy once again.

Anti-illegal, pro-immigration control, pro-American does not equal bigotry.

On the contrary, it is caring for others through the health of your own nation.

Greeley must think Cesar Chavez was an anti-Mexican bigot. Cesar Chavez, founder of the United Farm Workers of America, was opposed to illegal immigration. Mr. Chavez knew that illegal immigration drove down wages of legal workers especially among the lowest paid in our society. A disproportionate number of our lowest paid citizens and legal resident aliens are black and Hispanic. These people are hurt first and worst by illegal immigration.

As the liberal, and generally pro-criminal, columnist, Ruben Navarrette Jr., admitted a column in the Arizona Republic: “Cesar Chavez, a labor leader intent on protecting union membership, was as effective a surrogate for the INS as ever existed. Indeed, Chavez and the United Farm Workers he headed routinely reported, to the INS, for deportation, suspected illegal immigrant workers who served as strike breakers or refused to unionize.”

In 1969 Mr. Chavez even led a march from the Coachella and Imperial Valleys to the Mexican border to protest the INS’ less than stringent enforcement of immigration laws. If opposition to illegal immigration makes one a racist, Mr. Chavez must have been a racist.

It’s also instructive to note that many of the criminal employers, who are backing the pro-criminal politicians, used illegal aliens as scabs to break Mr. Chavez’s strikes. In 1979 Mr. Chavez testified before Congress; “... when the farm workers strike and their strike is successful, the employers go to Mexico and have unlimited, unrestricted use of illegal alien strikebreakers to break the strike. And, for over 30 years, the Immigration and Naturalization Service has looked the other way and assisted in the strikebreaking. I do not remember one single instance in 30 years where the Immigration service has removed strikebreakers. ... The employers use professional smugglers to recruit and transport human contraband across the Mexican border for the specific act of strikebreaking...” Of course, the pro-criminal axis never mentions this. Mr. Chavez must be rolling in his grave. Were he here today, he’d be fighting the pro-criminal axis and fighting against the Bush-Kennedy-McCain amnesty bill.

Greeley wants us to believe the mostly black construction workers working to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina who were fired because “the Mexicans had arrived” are racists because they don’t like being replaced by scofflaws who will work for less money.

The Washington Times reported the story on April 10, 2006: “An Alabama employment agency that sent 70 laborers and construction workers to job sites in that state in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina says the men were sent home after just two weeks on the job by employers who told them “the Mexicans had arrived” and were willing to work for less.

Linda Swope, who operates Complete Employment Services Inc. in Mobile, Ala., told The Washington Times last week that the workers — whom she described as U.S. citizens, residents of Alabama and predominantly black — had been “urgently requested” by contractors hired to rebuild and clear devastated areas of the state, but were told to leave three job sites when the foreign workers showed up.

“After Katrina, our company had 70 workers on the job the first day, but the companies decided they didn’t need them anymore because the Mexicans had arrived,” Mrs. Swope said. “I assure you it is not true that Americans don’t want to work.

“We had been told that 270 jobs might be available, and we could have filled every one of them with men from this area, most of whom lost their jobs because of the hurricane,” she said. “When we told the guys they would not be needed, they actually cried ... and we cried with them. This is a shame.”

These American workers who lost everything in the hurricane got no help from the government when the criminal contractors replaced them with scofflaw illegal aliens. In fact the government kicked them while they were down. The Washington Times reported: “Would-be employers in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi, awash in cleanup and reconstruction jobs, faced little in the way of legal problems in hiring the illegal aliens after Katrina because the Department of Homeland Security temporarily suspended the sanctioning of employers who hired workers unable to document their citizenship.

Mr. Bush also had suspended the Davis-Bacon Act, which requires local contractors to pay “prevailing” wages, in the areas hit by Katrina to encourage reconstruction and cleanup.”

The government that is supposed to protect Americans spit on Americans devastated by Katrina by telling criminal employers they faced no penalty for violating immigration laws or for replacing American workers with illegal aliens. If you object or speak out against that sort of crap, the pro-criminal axis will call you racist.

Maybe it’s Greeley’s bigotry against blacks that is showing. Maybe he just hates America, or more likely he hates America’s most vulnerable citizens and legal alien residents no matter what their race. Something accounts for him siding with criminals against the American people. One has to wonder just what that something is.
