Bigotry always is sinful, even if the target are 'illegal'
Daily Southtown ^ | June 1, 2007 | Andrew Greeley

Posted on 06/05/2007 2:49:00 AM PDT by B. Chezwick

Bigotry never goes away. When it becomes unfashionable, it goes underground and waits until a new hate group appears into which it can project its twisted sickness.

Racism, anti-Semitism, anti-Catholicism and anti-immigrant nativism are chronic infections in the American body politic. Rush Limbaugh singing his obscene tune "Barack the Magic Negro" is inviting prejudice and violence.

However, for pure irrational rage, the current crop of nativists are some of the worst to come along since the Ku Klux Klan of the 1920s or those God-fearing Protestants who burned convents in Boston in the 19th century.

Okay then. To paraphrase one of the left's favorite sayings:

I'm not against the illegal immigrants, I'm against illegal immigration!

That's not beeing too sinful, is it??

Notice the jump.

Just as Evan Sayet says,
if there is a disparity of outcome, “liberals” will always attribute it to some form of discrimination instead of the choices of the individual. To “blame” a person’s outcome on their choices would be to “discriminate” or “judge” - the only “sin” in the “liberal” mindset.

Mexicans didn’t “choose” to be poor, but they do choose to break our laws instead of fixing their own country, and yes, we are judging them as lawbreakers, not for being tan.

Greeley is a hack writer for the socialists....who misinterprets the teachings of the Catholic church by telling Catholics they can vote for pro-aborts like Kerry.

I’d say that Greeley is bigoted against millions of unborn children of Americans of all statuses.

Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz, D.D., S.T.D. said ( see http://catholickerrywatch.blogspot.com/2004/08/bishops-refute-flawed-theology.html)

No Catholics of any sense will take any pastoral advice from Fr. Andrew Greeley, a superficial writer who appears to spend his time promoting himself to various elements in the secular media.

It is often said by priests and people in his native region of Chicago that he long ago published all his thoughts, and in the last decades has been publishing his fantasies.

In his article in the New York Daily News, fostering a pro-abortion vote (”so long as it is not merely for that...”), he seems to strongly indicate not only a tragic indifference to abortion, which the Second Vatican Council called “an abominable crime,” but a shallowness of mind akin to a harlequin.

In his self-important buffoonery, he has appointed himself as instructor to bishops and to Catholics nationwide. In doing this, he merely announces to every thoughtful Catholic that his views are totally self serving and undeserving of any serious consideration.

Fr. Greeley even appointed himself to be an interpreter and spokesman for Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, to the great amusement of all who really know the Cardinal.

My advice to any Catholics who would ask me about that Greeley article would be to give it the same view as you would the words and acts of a clown.

If you think that wanting to reign in immigration to only the legal applicants is racist you are on the wrong forum. Illegals are criminals and to say that wanting them sent back to their courntry is racist is just ignorant. You show a lack of itelligence that is consistant with being a liberal socialist idiot, but it could be you are just an ordianary idiot.

“So death is an appropriate punishment for what is legally only a misdemeanor? No, but sometimes death is Nature’s punishment for being stupid, or unprepared, or unlucky.”

“Liberals” don’t believe in consequences, or believe that they should be alleviated by those who make better decisions.

Exactly.
Aren't the lawbreakers are actually stealing places from darker skinned people who want to come to America from other countries?

When did wanting to live by just and legal laws become “hateful”?

I rarely hear “hateful” people on the conservative side of the debate. I hear frustrated people who are angry because our elected officials, who swore to uphold the Constitution, don’t.
Our leaders and officials disregard the law of land.
Our courts disregard the Constitution and make decisions based on their personal ideals and opinions.

This is rich:

I wonder why the right-thinking people, the Establishment columnists and editorial writers and commentators and religious leaders and anchors remain silent in the face of this bigotry.

Probably because right-thinking people don’t see the imaginary bigotry you see.

Many here are attacking both legal and illegal immigrants because of their Hispanic culture. They treat Hispanics as if they’re not real Americans.

You lie. This statement of yours is total BS. You and invisible hand must be plants working together to cause dissent. Well, it won't work. Your statements are so off the wall that you can only be from liberal land. Illegals come in many varieties and no one I have ever read on FR has attacked legal immigrants, let alone just mexican immigrants. Take your lies and go back to DU.

That’s insane. Right thinking people will still be incensed that criminals were rewarded for their criminal acts.

Besides, EVERY single intelligent person analyzing this bill knows that extremely few will “follow the path to legal citizenship”.

You appear to be projecting your personal bigotry on those you disagree with. And that’s not exactly a compliment.

Total Barbra Streisand.

SOB.

OK, now that I have that out of the way, I’m wondering: WHERE’S HIS CONCERN FOR MOSLEM ARABS? DID HE WRITE ABOUT THAT TOO? OR IS IT OK TO “HATE THAT GROUP”, AS HE SUGGESTS IS ALWAYS WRONG?

Father Greely is a knee-jerk liberal priest!

He is a terminal left-winger and will never change.

"Are not the immigrants themselves guilty of sin for entering a country that does not want them? The moral theology I learned said someone who was desperate for food could steal from the rich without sinning."

Where on earth did he learn that theology?

And has he looked at this new crop of immigrants?

The only thing they are hungry for is power.

Isn’t Andrew Greeley also a published author who as a priest also wrote rather “blue” novels?

I’ll check, but my long term memory is pretty good!

Yesterday is a problem.

I can see where (like a lot of “liberals” do) he’s distorting a biblical directive to support his own agenda.

The actual biblical directive was for landowners to ALLOW the poor to come and glean their fields after the harvest.

The biggest distortion of biblical truth you’ll see today, however, is the quoting of “Judge not, or you shall be judged” - they leave off “by the same measure”. It means that you must first live up to your own standards before judging others by those standards. It does NOT mean, as the leftists want it to mean, a proscription on judging behavior.

And there is the problem: we NO LONGER can even THINK our “system” is SUPERIOR to all others.

“How dare you! Arrogant American!”

PC has torn us down as no better - and indeed, worse - than other nations or systems.

Hence, don’t bring up that we need to preserve our system. They’ll condemn you for thinking the foreign systems are worse and inferior.

(Which they are.)

We no longer can make that choice of who/what is better so that we can act.

These idiots will make you think a bull is an ox and an ox is a cow and a cow is a horse.
