Lately, there has been a growing movement on Free Republic to support the Presidential candidacy of Ron Paul. His supporters claim that he is the only true conservative candidate, and that Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo, Fred Thompson, etc. are not conservatives. While Paul may have some good ideas regarding domestic issues, his foreign policy ideas are downright dangerous. Here are ten questions for him that I would like to see answered.
1. AFGHANISTAN
We all know your position on Iraq. But what is your position on the war in Afghanistan? Do you demand an immediate withdrawal of all troops there? Do you believe that Taliban guerrillas should be allowed to operate unopposed? Do you believe that it is morally wrong for us to bomb al-Qaeda, since, as you said, "our policies brought about 9-11?"
2. NAVY/AIRCRAFT CARRIERS
You have expressed support for withdrawing U.S. Navy ships from the coast of Iran, and for withdrawing U.S. troops from foreign soil. Where do you want these ships to go? Do you want them all to be permanently kept within U.S. territorial waters, even the submarines? What about our aircraft carriers? Will you scuttle them or sell them to the Red Chinese?
3. BLAMING AMERICA
You have accused the U.S. of bringing the al-Qaeda 9-11 attacks upon ourselves because we "bombed Iraq for 10 years." Yet, in your opposition to the Iraq war, you claimed that there was no connection between al-Qaeda and Iraq. How can you claim that al-Qaeda attacked us because of Iraq?
4. FRIVOLOUS ANTI-GUN LAWSUITS
You claim to be pro-gun, yet you voted against protecting the gun industry from frivolous, politically motivated lawsuits. These lawsuits blame innocent gun manufacturers for the actions of criminals. You say you don't want the gun industry to have special protection. What's wrong with giving an industry the protection it legally, morally, and logically deserves? And it shouldn't be unique to the gun industry, either - if some weasel lawyer sued a car manufacturer because a nut ran over a bunch of people with a car, I'd give the automobile industry protection too.
5. PARENTAL NOTIFICATION
You claim to be pro-life, but you voted against a bill that would require parents to be notified if a minor crossed state lines to get an abortion. Please explain this.
6. SUPPORTING THE TROOPS
How can you claim to support the troops when you're constantly voting against military appropriations bills? And don't give me that tired old "it's all pork" line. Body armor for our troops is not pork.
7. NATIONAL GUARD ON THE BORDER
You claim that you will protect our borders. How can you say this when your defunding of the military will result in a lack of funding for the National Guard troops guarding the borders?
8. BLOOD ON WHOSE HANDS
Who do you think has more blood on their hands regarding the victims of 9-11 - al-Qaeda or the United States of America? Straight answer from the horse's mouth, please.
9. LIBERAL MOONBATS
If you claim to be not only *a* conservative, but the "one true conservative," why did you go on liberal Bill Maher's show and bask in the praise of his moonbat audience? And why are you so popular on extreme left-wing websites like Democratic Underground? If you do not want the support of these people, why have you not condemned them?
10. FOREIGN POLICY DIFFERENCES
Please explain, in 100 words or less, how your foreign policy differs from that of Dennis Kucinich.
Fred Thompson 2008
11. Will you be seeking the Log Cabin endorsement like you did in 2004?

2004 - Log Cabin Congratulates Our Victorious Candidates (2004)
I think you’re making a dangerous assumption that Paul supporters can be swayed or influenced by logical arguments. He inspires the same kind of blind insanity as Dennis Kucinich. I can only hope some of them have the courage to answer some of these questions, or at least face them.
“Libertarians are anarchists who bathe”. Run, Fred, Run!
I'm with you on Fred (so far).
And why won't this bite stop bleeding...?
Very good post JillValentine.
I don’t think he will because Rudy probably has that endorsement already locked up.
It all depends on who wins the primaries.
I wouldn’t say that support for Paul is growing but there are a lot of us who like him on some issues. I won’t support him for president partly because he’s so wrong about the WOT.
Personally I like Duncan Hunter.
Yeah, as big as the growing movement to support Hitlery for President. ; )
Well I can rest assured it won’t be either of those two.
Run Fred Run.
A defeatists attitude.
Exactly, I like the idea of Ron Paul more than I like Ron Paul the candidate. Paul the candidate has the libertarian problem of being a bit ahhem “Technocratic” in their approach to political issues.
That and DU is rounding up supporters for a Ron Paul candidacy, including recruiting workers and trying to raise money for him.
I will point this out:
1. Ron Paul voted for the war in Afghanistan.
As to the other questions, people who plan on voting for Ron Paul should answer them.
Paul is a genius on domestic issues and crazy on foreign policy issues.
All the Dems supporting him in the online polls for his anti-Iraq statements would be crappin their drawers if he was elected. They could say bye bye to all their precious socialist programs.
At this point in time, there is only one issue that is of importance: Which candidate will be most likely to put the brakes on the continuing confiscation of our guns.
Paul is simply unelectable.
I wanted to ask him about the blue capes, the Nike sneakers, and the mothership.
Clear and eloquently concise list of questions that expose the liberaltarianism of Paul.
Perhaps I worded that sentence poorly. I think support for Paul here is increasing, but it certainly isn’t big or anything close to the majority. His supporters are very vocal, though.
