COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) -- A Danish cargo ship with five crew was hijacked off Somalia's coast, the owner said Saturday, citing a report by the French navy.
The Danica White was on its way to the Kenyan port of Mombasa from Dubai when it was seized by pirates Saturday or late Friday, Jorgen Folmer, a spokesman for Danish shipping company H. Folmer & Co. said.
He said a French naval vessel in the area had confirmed the ship was hijacked but was unable to intervene because it could not enter Somali waters.
"They cannot do anything right now,"

“French naval vessel in the area had confirmed the ship was hijacked but was unable to intervene”
Of course not.

No pirates attacked any ship within 100 miles of them. I think the pirates know we are not kidding. We WILL take forceful action on any pirates that would dare to challenge our shipping.
Now the French.......
Anti-Frog Sarcasm Torpedo TM ARMED. FIRE!!
What happened? They ran out of white flags?
Or are they afraid of more "youths" rioting if they do anything?
Cheers!
The Danes should have advertised the fact that they had alcohol on board.
I’m curious as to how far off shore this Danish ship was. The piracy warning for the coast of Somalia has been out for a while now. But I was there last year for 2 1/2 months and there’s always those who think it’s not going to happen to them. We saw it.
As far as those slamming the French, they are part of CTF 150, as were we when I was there. For whatever reasons, CTF 150 has decided the 12 nautical mile territorial water limit is sacred. We were not allowed to cross even when in hot pursuit.
I’m guessing the DDG yesterday was detached from CTF-150 before their mission so as to avoid the multi-national ROEs.
See my #27.
The ROE’s do not allow hot pursuit ?
The Danish ship only had a crew of five : is it normal to be so close to the coast line ?
Its the Amish...
It could be yes, but it might be that other aggressive group, a little known sect called the seagoing piratical Methodists.
They did not last year and it appears they still do not. As far as how far off the coast the Danish ship was, I had that question too. It would be total lunacy for a ship with that size crew to be within 200 miles of the Somali coast.
> Im guessing the DDG yesterday was detached from CTF-150 before their mission so as to avoid the multi-national ROEs.<
You are probably correct.
The whole thing is we're not talking about international waters. I was there within the last year and I'm telling you what the ROE were. CTF 150 does not enter Somali territorial waters to pursue pirates.
Pirates of the Arab-bean!!!
Obviously no one in Somalia could stop us if we wanted to pull off a rescue mission. Early last year we knew the exact positions of two or three Taiwanese and Korean fishing vessels whose crews were being held hostage by pirates. When we (enlisted types) asked why we couldn't do anything, we were told basically that because Somalia was such lawless country it was all the more important that someone (like CTF 150) recognize they had some sort of sovereignty. Otherwise, any other nation in the region could use our actions as an excuse to do what they wanted in Somalia.
