NEW YORK - Three people were arrested and one other was being sought Saturday in connection to a plan to set off explosives in a fuel line that feeds John F. Kennedy International Airport and runs through residential neighborhoods, officials close to the investigation said.
The plot, which never got past the planning stages, did not involve airplanes or passenger terminals, according to the two officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because details of the arrests had not yet been announced.
Details were to be given out at a 1 p.m. news conference.
The pipeline takes fuel from a facility in Linden, N.J., to the airport. Other lines service LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport.
The arrests mark the latest in a series of alleged homegrown terrorism plots targeting high-profile American landmarks.
A year ago, seven men were arrested in what officials called the early stages of a plot to blow up the Sears Tower in Chicago and destroy FBI offices and other buildings.
A month later, authorities broke up a plot to bomb underwater New York City train tunnels to flood lower Manhattan.
And six people were arrested a month ago in an alleged plot to unleash a bloody rampage on Fort Dix in New Jersey.

Associated Press Writer Tom Hays contributed to this report.
Two of these perps were from Guyana, South America. Anyone who doesn’t think they’re not bringing terror over the southern border is just in denial.
Agreed completely.
But they still had overstayed, with nothing done about it!
And these were, as you point out, tourist, or non-immigrant visas, which are SUPPOSED to be merely transitory...
...so overstaying should have been a real red flag.
Cheers!
I see. For some reason the threadmeister edited out that relevant information [both the names and nationalities of those arrested] from the original AP article and posted an unecessarily excepted version, so I can see where some posters got the (mistaken) impression that the info was being withheld.
excepted = excerpted
I’m sure the moderators at CNN’s Democrat love-fest...er, “debate”...tomorrow night will ask John Edwards if he still thinks the War on Terror is “just a bumper sticker.” Maybe he’d take it more seriously if Muslims were plotting to blow up the Charleston airport.
“IMHO, the real danger is that legal, naturalized or even native-born citizens are dabbling in this stuff. I think our next big attack here is probably going to involve some of our own, particularly from the Black Muslim or convert sector of Islam.”
Obviously this is a problem, but there are solutions and forces working against the Islamists
Documentarians battle PBS over Islam film

WASHINGTON — The film features grainy footage and dramatic music, presenting itself as a stark look at the way fundamentalist Muslims in America and Europe crush dissent by their more moderate co-religionists.
But the very production of “Islam vs. Islamists: Voices From the Muslim Center” has highlighted sharply different views about the state of Islam in the United States and showcased how intensely sensitive that subject remains. PBS, which commissioned the project, is delaying airing the film after protests that it is anti-Muslim. Now its creators are launching a public campaign against PBS to get it shown.
(snip)
“Islam vs. Islamists” follows the efforts of socially liberal Muslims in America and Europe to reclaim their religion from political extremism by speaking out against ultra-conservative imams.
But the film never made it into the initial lineup of 11 shows that aired recently. A film about widespread discrimination against Muslims, “The Muslim Americans,” did air as part of the series.

Muslim) Informants in American Service

A recent terrorist trial, and conviction, of an Islamic terrorists in New York City brought out the extent to which police have infiltrated Moslem communities in order to uncover terrorist plots. While most of this counter-terrorist activity within Moslem communities is kept secret, enough information has leaked out to make it clear that it’s no accident that the United States has not suffered another terrorist attack since September 11, 2001.
There is an extensive informant network within Moslem communities all over the United States. The FBI was pleasantly surprised right after September 11, 2001, by the number of calls they got from American Moslems, reporting suspicious events in their communities, or volunteering to keep an eye on things. It turned out that there was a substantial number of American Moslems, most of them recent immigrants (legal and illegal) that were pro al Qaeda. These attitudes had been causing distress among American Moslems since the 1990s. There had been violence, and even some murders, as the Islamic radicals tried to take control of Mosques, and other Moslem immigrant organizations. While Arabs have been migrating to the United States for over a century, until the 1960s, most of those migrants were Arab Christians, or Jews. Once Israel was founded, the Middle Eastern Jews generally went to Israel, while Arab Christians continued to head for America. Then came the large waves of Arab Moslems. The established Arab-Americans did not have close ties with the growing number of Arab Moslem migrants. There were some pan-Arab organizations, but the Arab Moslems tended to keep to themselves. This was no surprise to the Arab-American Christians, as their ancestors had come to American to escape persecution by Moslems back home. Old animosities die hard.

No, no, no.
How dense are you?!
I am completely for sealing the borders and deporting every illegal around here.
What I do not support is contrived hysteria, like in this case. The writer of the post falsly claimed that the authorities were witholding the immigration status of those charged with the plot to attack JFK.
That writer was creating something out of nothing.
Don't be so sensitive!
PS: There is a very good reason to search old ladies in wheelchairs, if you are interested in an explanation.
Yes, in the case of the poster that was lying about what authorities were saying....namely, not identifying the immigration status of the suspects.
The poster lied about the information released in order to go off on an immigration tangent.
I am 100% for sealing the borders and deporting the illegals. I am not in favor of contrived conspiracies.
Please read first before posting.
Ah that TSA, won’t profile Muslims but will strip grandma to get to the truth! The Illegal Immigration Bill fiasco should have in it that not one Muslim ME immigrant should be allowed in on any type of visa until the WOT is over. Not one.
Which is why I think *concern* over the national origin of those in the JFK case is warranted--ironic that it is the Kennedy airport, when it was another Kennedy's bill which helped cause the mess.
Agreed, that the authorities did come out and mention the nationality--but after so many other news stories about (say) "youths" in France, "protestors" in LA, and the like, one does tend to become a bit suspicious.
I would like to hear the rationale behind searching granny, btw--other than "her wheelchair would set off the metal detector."
BTW, I could understand the idea behind the government's dragging their feet on this stuff, IF they were buying time to prevent the wholesale Balkanization of the US, and vigilante justice while they cleaned up the problem. But in actuality, it appears to be not so much "lull us to sleep" as holding a chloroform-soaked rag over our face while the illegals drop their pants and take a quick fistful of Viagra to get ready...
Cheers!
Please think before posting..
sw
hmmmmmm, another plot that nevedr got past the planning stages...
Either we are that good, or the dunderhead terrorists are just that, dunderheads...
Remember when we used to think of why we never used to hear of any plots like this for about 3-4 years after 9-11???
Now we get little glimpes here and there in the news...And certainly more information here on FR...
I think its great that we are finally seeing a few of these plots taken down...
If it were me...And I had a say into the disposition of the people involved in these plots...It just seems logical to be swift, public and final on what we do to these terrorists, regardless of what or whom they may be...I mean I really don’t want to see them languish in prison for too long...
Public primetime hangings would be fantastic...If you don’t want to watch, just change the channel...I’m sure someone will have an alternative source of pop-culture or some mindless MTV garbage to watch...
I’m thinking these individuals would make a fine example...
Which is what made me write the post to someone who was lying about the released information, not to those in favor of closing the borders.
I am a very frequent flyer, making over 130 flights last year. The number of elderly travelling today is incredible (and gives me hope for my old-age!).
However, many of the elderly are not conscious of their surroundings. This is due partly to age, but also medication that leaves them in a near zombie-like state.
It would take nothing to sit close to these people and slip something into their bags. Even worse, their wheelchair could conceal a much larger object if not checked.
I have watched some elderly leave their bags next to other people and walk away. 99.9% of people are great and take the bag to the owner. That 0.1% might put something in the bag prior to returning it to the owner.
Lastly, can you identify an elderly Muslim who is in 'normal' attire? No. If I was a devoted elderly Muslim man, confined to a wheelchair, I would volunteer to help the fundamentalists by blowing myself up. What do I have to lose?
Lastly, documents picked up have revealed that terrorists have conceived of the idea of disguises and using the infirmed to carry out their attacks.
They do this in Iraq when they pay big money to people to drive a car somewhere, but the driver does not know about the explosive device hidden in the car.
Yeah, but the truth seems to never hurt enough these days...
You say “immigrant hysteria”...
I say “illegal alien” problem...
But since this apparent “home-grown angry muslim followers” are to be the newest in a long line of extremists that are developing these nefarious “plans/attacks”...
What should we do??? be closed minded and not look at the obvious threats??? And those most likely to perpetrate a deadly terrorist attack in this country???
You have the floor now...I am alllll ears...Really, I am...
I have no intent on insulting you, I am just trying to illicite a response...

Personally, I’d be happy to see all Muslims (legal or illegal) deported to their home countries, and the domestic native born ones put under a permanent watch of some sort. They simply can’t be trusted.
Good points about the elderly as willing or unwitting mules.
I am not willing to credit TSA or HS with the same logical thought process though. The searches are largely politically correct quota policies to appease the ACLU and CAIR and their ilk.
The good news is, even in their ineptitude, there’s a possible unintended upside. While racking up their required numbers of non-muslim/middle-eastern-looking subjects, they may just accidently stumble upon an actual threat of the scenario you describe. Of course, they’d be unprepared for what to do after the discovery. (”Wait here while I call my supervisor...”)
