The inspector general for Homeland Security late Friday released new details of what federal air marshals say was a terrorist dry run aboard Northwest Airlines Flight 327 from Detroit to Los Angeles on June 29, 2004. Several portions of the report remain redacted. The release stems from a Freedom of Information request by The Washington Times in April 2006. The Times first reported on July 22 that this and other probes and dry runs were occurring on commercial flights since the September 11 terrorist attacks. Look for the full report in Wednesday's edition of The Times. Excerpts fom 51-page inspector general report: On the flight, 13 Middle Eastern men behaved in a suspicious manner that aroused the attention and concern of the flight attendants, passengers, air marshals and pilots.

The ringleader did the same thing 5 months before...he was released again. Annie Jacobson was right.

Not for nothin'... I like the Washington Times, but it just annoys the hell out of me that we have to excerpt their articles. The NYT/LAT/WP, those jerks I can understand, but The Times?

So this was the group of “Syrian musicians”
CAIR must be outraged at this further profiling of middle eastern men who board aircraft and act like terrorists
It is disturbing the so-called Homeland Security Operations Center (HSOC) was clueless about this until it was reported in the newspaper. I think Free Republic should run the HSOC as an adjunct forum.

I don’t know if we have to... I just tend to do it unless it’s from a govt site, or Iran and other enemies.

Should it be that hard to discover and publish the names and whereabouts of these 13 sweethearts?
Repeated provocative activities should be grounds for expulsion and, if necessary, revocation of American residency for the slimebag and his entire family.
This would create more animosity against the US?
I'll be kind and simply laugh.

IIRC, CAIR tried to sue the flight attendant and airlines for ‘inconveniencing and profiling’.

I am sure the ACLU is suing the airline for racism and civil rights violations.

GOOGLE finds the report here:
http://pogoblog.typepad.com/pogo/files/DHS-IG-Northwest-327.pdf
The passengers and crew had good reason to act as they did, but there is no evidence it was a “dry run”, or a terrorism incident of an kind.
pp 31:
“Overall a key element when considering the response to this incident should be noted, which is that the 13 Syrian musicians were not terrorists and that the law enforcement assessments made by the FAMS and FBI on June 29, 2004 were appropriate. This is of particular importance when considering the involvement of the HSOC.”
Pretty sloppy copy editing on he part of the WP, IMO.

Thank you for that link.
I have not read the entire report minutely, but a quick review reveals that there are no recommendations aimed to deal with passengers who refuse to comply with the rules of flight that the rest of us are expected to observe.
This is bordering on criminal incompetence.
After all, Americans have a perfect right to feel apprehensive while flying, and the cause of that apprehension should not be allowed to abuse the "rights" of citizens and legitimate residents.

I read a blog post recently from a Muslim which stated that they are doing this on purpose. Not because they are planning terrorism, but because it amuses them to scare Americans.
To: M. Dodge Thomas
The passengers and crew had good reason to act as they did, but there is no evidence it was a dry run, or a terrorism incident of an kind. So they release a report on it in 2006, and internal FOIA documents say something entirely different. Someone is lying.
