JIM ROBINSON AS THE NEW JOSEPH FARAH - STABBING THE CONSERVATIVE MOVEMENT IN THE BACK [Re:Giuliani]
On one the few rational minds left around here - but for long

The tone of the debate and the attacks on long-time fellow Freepers for the cardinal sin of daring to support Rudy Giuliani in early 2007 around here have really saddened me. Instead of fighting the enemy FR is now imposing an 'ideological purity' test on FR members. The well-oiled train has gone off the rails and Mr. Robinson risks becoming the next Joe Farah - a fellow who started a great website for conservative news and opinions, but who gradually drifted off to la-la land, losing all credibility - and readership - in the process.
He has set himself squarely in the Internet media spotlight, doused himself with gasoline, and and lighted himself on fire - a fact that has not escaped the attention of the left-wing lunatics at Daily Kos. Their reporting on what has been going on at FR is perhaps the first factually true account published on their site.
Jim, if that quote of yours about setting up an organization to 'Swiftboat Rudy' is accurate as quoted in their article, the only thing I have to say to you is that you ought to be ashamed of yourself, as you have now become the back-stabber of the conservative cause.
If you wish to marginalize this site by turning it into a narrow "several-issue" forum, that is your right. Just as it is my right to choose to not participate here any longer.
But you will be disappointed if you think that the crude, illiterate "goon squad" you have allowed free rein around here (dmw, narses, dirtboy, extremely extreme extremist, ReaganMan and several others - if I have slighted anyone, please email me if you want onto this list) will elevate the level of intellectual debate.
The result has been predictably in the other direction. That is what happens when you hire a bunch of brown shirts to enforce your own brand of political correctness.
Well, guess what? Politics is 99% BS and one can quite nicely live one's life without the need to bloviate about it. I know how I am going to vote. I could care less about anyone else. Life is too short to waste my time around here when I am clearly one of those made to feel like they are not welcome.
So, go ahead Jim -
MAKE MY DAY. BAN ME. I DARE YOU.

I was not aware that Rudolph Giuliani was a conservative.
Looks like another case of accusing someone of "changing" because they haven't drifted with the times!

He mis-spoke. Wagglebee meant that it would destroy the GOP as a conservative party for decades. Just as Reagan’s ascendancy snapped the GOP out of its left drifting Rockefeller stupor, having a liberal ascendant will kill Reaganism. For starters, the most conservative 1/3 of the party will bolt.

Go ahead. You think you can insult people and they can’t fight back. I don’t see that I have violated any rules here that you are not also guilty of.
If you want it to stop, you stop attacking people. Got it?

Thanks for the clarification. However, with “nowhere to go” (there is no nationwide Conservative party to speak of), conservatism would be crippled for a long time.

Your precision is a good thing. Would you believe "shuffling?" "Shifting about?" "Squirming?" "Trying to hide under the podium?" No, I think he stands behind his former positions on abortion, as he does on the 2nd Amendment. Immigration, maybe some room for shuffling there.
Standing for what he believes in isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I don't support Rudy. I will vote for him if he wins the primary though.
I think your rant was a little bit pointless and the use of the term "Brown Shirts" is beneath you.
Funny, I have had the thought that pais supporters of some candidates have been posting on various sites.
Oh well, whatever.

So your response is to behave the very same way that you object to in others?
I fail to see the logic, but then logic wasn't your objective, was it?

I looked on the internet a little too, and I think that it is just too long ago to turn up quickly. But, you can look it up in the Congressional record. It was talked about quite a lot shortly after I almost got thrown off FreeRepublic for mentioning it. But it never seemed to get much traction because the woman never filed charges with the police, just with the Congressional ethics committee. Like I said, no action was taken because McCain claimed the woman was drunk and came on to him, but she didn’t even drink alcohol or do drugs. Find someone with Lexis Nexis, it should turn up. It is probably right here on FreeRepublic somewhere, if we could go back to 2000.

Im certainly not trying to coerce FReep. Im just saying that people who criticize some aspect of FReep shouldnt be name-called into silencing themselves.Oh, puh-lease. If one cannot handle the more contentious threads, they ought to stay off of them. I've been doing it for years.
As for your silly point about FReep being only a verb, not a noun show me the citation in the rule book.
It is not a "silly point". It is what this site is called. If you can't get the name right, why should any of your other opinions matter?
Try the Lexicon. Even Wikipedia gets it right.
Then, if you can, tell me why it must be followed.
Good grief, dude, is there anything else about FR that you'd like to change?

Rudy knows how to use power and he will not be afraid to do it. That's an excellent point. I lived under Rudy too, and you said something that rang a bell with me. He was great at fighting crime - but he actually didn't do many things that were new: even Koch had tried the same things, but Koch was not tough enough to get them past the courts and the liberal criminal-chic classes in the press and elsewhere. Rudy was.
But he is a very self-righteous person, and someone like that, convinced that he is in the right on every issue, could be very, very dangerous if he is a supporter of liberal social issues (which Rudy is). He's pro-abortion, pro-gay, anti-gun, and I could easily see him using really strong-arm tactics to enforce his opinions in these areas.
Aside from that, getting back to the topic of the thread, I think JR has been more than polite to the Giuliani supporters, who are actually the only ones I have seen doing any flaming. For some reason, they seem to believe that any opposition to Giuliani merits nothing but the harshest response; perhaps he attracts followers with the same absolutist mindset.

Rudy-bashing is fine if its well-supported, or even just civilized in terms of other FReepers and not extreme in its unfairness to Rudy. What is not fine is the endless stream of sheer hatred toward both Rudy and those who, whether they support him or not, dare to defend him on this site.
Instead of anybody bashing ANYBODY, why don't we focus on digging for facts and finding new ways to get real news out to people who are neither posters nor lurkers here?
Love the sinner, hate the SIN needs to be practiced more often by us all. There is no need to bash moderates--nor is there any need to forebear with any who make a posting 'career' of bashing messengers of truth whether or not we like the message.
EVEN SO, the messengers can be bold with uncomfortable truths and still show decency--the truth is on the Conservative side.
Truth needs no defense...It is a lion that simply needs to be let out of its cage -- Charles Spurgeon
A couple of Proverbs: "The Fool hath said in his heart, 'there is no God.'" ... 'it is better to meet a bear robbed of her cubs than a fool caught in his folly' definitely apply around here at the moment.
Let's all grin and bear it--as gracious bearers of truth.
