We've got some real challenges facing us. FR was established to fight against government corruption, overstepping, and abuse and to fight for a return to the limited constitutional government as envisioned and set forth by our founding fathers in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and other founding documents.
One of the biggest cases of government corruption, overstepping and abuse that I know of is its disgraceful headlong slide into a socialist hell. Our founders never intended for abortion to be the law of the land. And they never intended the Supreme Court to be a legislative body. They never intended God or religion to be written out of public life. They never intended government to be used to deny God's existence or for government to be used to force sexual perversions onto our society or into our children's education curriculum. They never intend for government to disarm the people. They never intended for government to set up sanctuary cities for illegals. They never intended government to rule over the people and or to take their earnings or private property or to deprive them of their constitutional rights to free speech, free religion, private property, due process, etc. They never intended government to seize the private property of private citizens through draconian asset forfeiture laws or laws allowing government to take private property from lawful owners to give to developers. Or to seize wealth and redistribute it to others. Or to provide government forced health insurance or government forced retirement systems.
All of the above are examples of ever expanding socialism and tyranny brought to us by liberals/liberalism.
FR fights against the liberals/Democrats in all of these areas and always will. Now if liberalism infiltrates into the Republican party and Republicans start promoting all this socialist garbage, do you think that I or FR will suddenly stop fighting against it? Do you think I'm going to bow down and accept abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, global warming, illegal alien lawbreakers, gun control, asset forfeiture, socialism, tyranny, totalitarianism, etc, etc, etc, just so some fancy New York liberal lawyer can become president from the Republican party?
Do you really expect me to do that?
Wow - do you recall the bloodbath during Terri Schiavo’s starvation/dehydration around here? The pro death crowd was out in force and took great joy is smashing the pro lifers half to death. Poor Terri; I miss her.
He therefore is the truest friend to the liberty of this country who tries most to promote its virtue, and who, so far as his power and influence extend, will not suffer a man to be chosen into any office of power and trust who is not a wise and virtuous man.
Samuel Adams
I was a freshman in college when it came out.
We didn't just see it. We lived it. The crap college students could get away with back then. I'd get expelled in two days if I were to try any of it now.
Actually, I would argue that there is no conflict between the two, that actually being politically conservative *requires* social liberalism. I would argue that the conflict is the other way around, being socially 'conservative' means you want govt intervention in private, social matters.
:-D
Cuz to me, 'politically conservative' means 'I believe in a conservative use of govt power'. Careful. Common sense. Like 'I spend conservatively'.
I think gays should be treated just like anyone else. I don't think govt should be sanctioning any marriages, but if it does, people should be able to marry any other human being they want. There should be no 'vice' laws, people should be free to do what they want until they harm others.
Libertarians are 'political conservatives' to the extreme. Unfortunately, libertarians also believe in other things like the non-initiation of force, which I do NOT believe in.
So I'm no libertarian either.
I'm just some wierd guy on the net with his own wierd opinions. :-D
You’re a treasure.
You’re too kind.
"Gun control: The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her panty hose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound." L. Neil Smith
If you read the thread here about the partial birth abortion ban being upheld there were posters who would rather pay for the abortion than support the child on welfare.
FR is not exclusively conservative.
Also the freepers who did not support Charlie Crist for Florida’s gubernatorial candidate were ragged about it. Now since Crist is in office, he has given some felons their voting rights back. Real conservative that is..../sarc
Roger that!
Thanks for posting that. I see on that thread that someone else came up with SUPO before I did.
Here’s my Supoi on this thread. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1821435/posts?page=6245#6245

Why hasn't he formed an exploratory committee? I don't believe that triggers the law.
My FRiend, I'm arguing for civil debate.
If you say, "I disagree with Rudy's position on abortion", I respect you, I'll debate you.
If you say, "I'll never vote for a baby killer like Rudy", I'll believe you're an emotional, over-the-top partisan who is not open to reason on this subject.
Name-calling and exaggeration don't foster debate. I'm trying to advocate open, honest debate here. I think that is what made FR great.
The 5 issues I added to your 4, constitute the basic issues for most conservatives these days. Those issues form the starting point for advancing conservatism in the political arena. Along with defending the Constitution, of course. While governance and politics is all compromise and negotiation, once to get into office. Its to what degree you're willing to compromise and negotiate that counts the most. Upfront, there is no surrendering on the basic principles of conservatism and once in office, there shouldn't be capitulation to the loyal opposition on EVERYissue. Stealing issues from the Democrats, or efforts to out-Democrat the Democrats, is a silly effort in futility. Serves no good purpose, except to undermine the traditional American values of mainstream conservatism.
The first inalienable right granted by God is LIFE.
Protecting life is part of the government’s job.
Oh no.....I’m so sorry....we’ll pray for you and for all of your family.
DH, my most respectful expression of gratitude for your adult, civil tone.
Yes, it made me so mad I took names, but now I can’t find the list. One I do remember recently went to zot “heaven”.
Explain why the pro-abortion people do not refer to themselves as such? I am still looking for an explanation as to why pro-lifers do not refer to themselves as pro-choice in defense of God’s choice in creating life?
Just doing what I can. Small enough.
Or somewhere. ;-)
