Will FR embrace socialism to make way for Rudy Giuliani as a Republican presidential candidate?
vanity | April 21, 2007 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 04/21/2007 6:42:25 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

We've got some real challenges facing us. FR was established to fight against government corruption, overstepping, and abuse and to fight for a return to the limited constitutional government as envisioned and set forth by our founding fathers in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and other founding documents.

One of the biggest cases of government corruption, overstepping and abuse that I know of is its disgraceful headlong slide into a socialist hell. Our founders never intended for abortion to be the law of the land. And they never intended the Supreme Court to be a legislative body. They never intended God or religion to be written out of public life. They never intended government to be used to deny God's existence or for government to be used to force sexual perversions onto our society or into our children's education curriculum. They never intend for government to disarm the people. They never intended for government to set up sanctuary cities for illegals. They never intended government to “rule” over the people and or to take their earnings or private property or to deprive them of their constitutional rights to free speech, free religion, private property, due process, etc. They never intended government to seize the private property of private citizens through draconian asset forfeiture laws or laws allowing government to take private property from lawful owners to give to developers. Or to seize wealth and redistribute it to others. Or to provide government forced health insurance or government forced retirement systems.

All of the above are examples of ever expanding socialism and tyranny brought to us by liberals/liberalism.

FR fights against the liberals/Democrats in all of these areas and always will. Now if liberalism infiltrates into the Republican party and Republicans start promoting all this socialist garbage, do you think that I or FR will suddenly stop fighting against it? Do you think I'm going to bow down and accept abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, global warming, illegal alien lawbreakers, gun control, asset forfeiture, socialism, tyranny, totalitarianism, etc, etc, etc, just so some fancy New York liberal lawyer can become president from the Republican party?

Do you really expect me to do that?

I like your picture, but Reagan DID NOT appoint Giuliani. He was appointed by the Attorney General.

Giuliani was the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. That is a presidentially appointed position which requires approval by the Senate. The presidential nomination for Giuliani's successor is available online here. (1983 Presidential Nominations are not in the Thomas database).

Well, step number one will be building a database of his quotes, speeches, transcripts, video clips, etc. We’re looking for the words straight out of the horse’s mouth (so to speak).

Next will be a database of his actual deeds and record throughout his public life. And while doing this we’ll be cataloging and indexing all the news articles we can find that document his liberalness, corruption, and unconstitutional abuses.

And what's the backup plan if Giuliani actually wins the Republican primary and runs against Hillary!?

Not gonna happen. Hillary will not be the Democrat nominee. Although my most fervent hope is that she is. She's absolutely the most beatable of the bunch.

You shouldn't stop fighting against Socialism but it is time for a different approach. There are a considerable number of unaffiliated Conservatives. Conservatives in the party will be more effective attracting Conservatives who are unaffiliated voters by separating themselves from the socialists in the Republican party.

But, having said that, until I discover otherwise, Fred Thompson is my choice for President.

I must admit this is a phenomena that escapes me. People are so eager to vote for Fred. The only problem is he hasn't declared his candidacy! He may very well be a solid candidate but the prudent tactic would be to focus on those who are candidates and only consider Thompson if and when he runs.

We need to keep the GOP and throw the infiltrators out.

I can appreciate wanting to remain in a party that once stood for Conservative principles but this conversion of the party from Conservatism to Socialism has been occurring for many years. The typical refrain from Conservatives in similar type threads who are registered Republicans is the "throw the bums out" approach. This begs the questions why wasn't this done years ago? Also What different tactic will Conservatives in the party employ they haven't done in the past?

I am a staunch Conservative who is unaffiliated. I have been observing the Republican party since I was eligible to vote (I am slightly over 18 and have been for many years)and have several family members who are Republicans. I know there are a large number of Conservatives who are also unaffiliated. They would gladly join forces with Conservatives in the Republican party if those Conservatives would separate themselves from the socialists. I suspect it would be a very powerful force. I can only speak for myself but I will never join the Republican party after observing for many years the direction it has taking and have not seen any clear plan to reverse the trend.

Yes, the union as a whole is liberal, but the NYC chapter who submitted the reports on which that statement was based endorsed George Bush at the 2004 convention.

Bush wouldn't abandon those serving in harm's way like Giuliani did.

Me three.

Rudy may be to my left on social issues, but he's no socialist. The people bashing him don't seem to be people who lived under Mayor Rudy. Believe it or not, conservatives do exist in New York City and, by 1999 (Rudy's second victory) they'd climbed on the bandwagon and voted for Rudy. Even Maggie Gallagher has said she'd vote for Rudy.

Duncan Hunter is unelectable (nobody outside of the most hardcore partisan has ever heard of him). Newt is unelectable (talk about an unsavory private life!). Fred Thompson has lymphoma, and that could keep him from running. Romney's religion means that even some Christian conservatives won't vote for him.

To win election, a candidate has to get votes from the Right and the Center (forget about the Left). Newt won't get centrists. Hunter won't get centrists. Romney won't get centrists. Rudy can. He's very good at building coalitions.

PhiKapMom has been active in the Oklahoma Republican party for years. Her kids went to school with J.C. Watts' kids, and she is on a first-name basis with Senator Inhofe. She is a very conservative person.

She got burned in the last two elections because certain political strategist pushed issues and tactics that alienated the majority of Oklahoma voters and consequently caused the loss of seats by the Republicans.

I imagine she was at that dinner because of her volunteer work for the party. She has never pretended to not be active in politics and anyone who followed the 2000 election or the 2004 election would probably remember her comments.

I think she sincerely likes Guiliani.
