Scientists at a state animal health laboratory confirmed Monday that a popular brand of pet food submitted for testing by Marin veterinarians was indeed contaminated, even though it is not on a growing list of recalled pet foods.
At the request of the Mill Valley Pet Clinic, three varieties of Nutro Max Cat Gourmet Classics, in 3-ounce cans, were tested by the California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory System at the University of California Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.

Independant labs and consumers are reporting more and more tainted pet food on an almost daily basis.
Pet food is the "canary in the mine" for human food. It is still not clear how large the probelm is or if human food may be impacted.
Ping!
The Chinese thought they could dump industrial waste in pet food wheat to bulk up their shipments and make more money? Would the Chinese have any more ethical consideration for supplies going into American infant or other human food?
And our gullible or greedy manufacturers have no quality control to detect this?
This literally makes me sick.
I haven’t been able to eat Chinese food since I read about their use of human hair (clippings from the floors of Chinese barber shops) to make artificial soy sauce.
The FDA needs to step up and set up reporting mechanisms for tainted pet food. Pet food is under their jurisdiction and they have totally dropped the ball on this.
*just in case* ping
Where did you read that ? I may have to swear off Chinese food too.
I’m checking all of my soy sauce bottle labels for human hair! :-O
Kidding aside, there -are- dozens of credible stories like yours out there.
China does not have the resources or standard of living to put them in a position to export food products.
When will we suspend their food imports until rigorous safeguards are impleneted?
Thanks for the ping! This is so frightening.
Naaassstttyyy. Is Kikkoman (low sodium) real or artificial?
from the article,
“The canned cat food that tested positive for melamine at UC Davis were the Lamb & Turkey Cutlets, California Chicken Supreme and Chicken Cacciatore.
A Nutro spokesman could not be reached for comment Monday.”
Why, it's "All Natural".
CATS - you were going to say cats, weren't you? That's just despicable.....
Check the labels people.I have found a few breads that do not use wheat gluten. As far as the pet food in question goes, here are the ingedients,
Chicken Cacciatore Top 10 Ingredients: Chicken Broth, Chicken, Chicken Liver, Turkey, Wheat Gluten, Food Starch, Tomato Paste, Dried Egg Product, Tricalcium Phosphate, Salt
Beef Ragout Top 10 Ingredients: Beef Broth, Beef, Chicken, Beef Liver, Chicken Liver, Wheat Gluten, Food Starch, Dried Egg Product, Tricalcium Phosphate, Natural Flavor
Alaskan Halibut & Rice Entree Top 10 Ingredients: Fish Broth, Halibut, Chicken Liver, Turkey, Food Starch, Wheat Gluten,, Ground Rice, Salmon, Dried Egg Product, Chicken
Orleans Seafood Jambalaya Top 10 Ingredients: Fish Broth, Chicken, Mackerel, Salmon, Chicken Liver, Wheat Gluten, Ground Rice, Food Starch, Tomato Paste, Shrimp
If you love your pets(and yourself), do not buy products with wheat gluten. This thing is a lot bigger then the Government would have you believe.
Ewwwww (running around with fingers in my ears singing la la la la)
HAHAHA......Thanks for the laugh! :D
BTTT
The “Regular” says “Naturally Brewed”.
Contents: Water, Wheat, Soybeans, Salt and Sodium Benzoate.
Funny, it doesn’t have the “Made in Wisconsin” label it used to have.
BTW - The low sodium version is just watered down. It’s like selling “Low Sodium” salt. When I make a beef jerky cure I just cut the regular Kikkoman with about 25% - 50% water.
Otherwise it will pickle your kidneys!
