The Chinese thought they could dump industrial waste in pet food wheat to bulk up their shipments and make more money? Would the Chinese have any more ethical consideration for supplies going into American infant or other human food?
And our gullible or greedy manufacturers have no quality control to detect this?
This literally makes me sick.
I haven’t been able to eat Chinese food since I read about their use of human hair (clippings from the floors of Chinese barber shops) to make artificial soy sauce.
Where did you read that ? I may have to swear off Chinese food too.
I’m checking all of my soy sauce bottle labels for human hair! :-O
Kidding aside, there -are- dozens of credible stories like yours out there.
China does not have the resources or standard of living to put them in a position to export food products.
When will we suspend their food imports until rigorous safeguards are impleneted?
Naaassstttyyy. Is Kikkoman (low sodium) real or artificial?
CATS - you were going to say cats, weren't you? That's just despicable.....
I don’t think that is what happened. I think they had poor quality mill scrapings that had infestation and some lower official thought they could treat it and sell it without there being any ill effects. It doesn’t make sense for a business to purposely sell poisonous food unless they want to kill their livelihood as well as their clients.
What was the source of this information? If true, I will pitch my soy sauce and stay away from Chinese restaurants as well.

Say what!! OMG.
At this point a list of NON contaminated foods would be shorter. I can't keep track!
Here's some information about 'safe' foods, etc.
We asked both the FDA and the American Veterinary Medical Association how pet owners can protect their animals. Here are the guidelines they recommend:
Check pet food ingredients. Animal protein such as chicken, beef or fish should be among the first ingredients listed.
Stay away from products that list vegetable, wheat or grain, or animal byproducts in the top ingredients.
Make sure your pet food has an expiration date and contact information on the label.
If your pet appears sick, take it to the veterinarian immediately.

I wonder if the wheat gluten that was imported for the pet food had any inspection at all. If it was for human consumption, would there have been an inspection? Is Chinese wheat gluten that much cheaper? Do we import any foodstuffs from China? If so, why?
