Scientists at a state animal health laboratory confirmed Monday that a popular brand of pet food submitted for testing by Marin veterinarians was indeed contaminated, even though it is not on a growing list of recalled pet foods.
At the request of the Mill Valley Pet Clinic, three varieties of Nutro Max Cat Gourmet Classics, in 3-ounce cans, were tested by the California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory System at the University of California Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.

Folks, we have been dealing with this since our cat consumed contaminated food. Betweent the FDA and P&G, my wife has gotten prompt and courteous responses from the FDA, which does have a reporting set up, at their request, we just sent off all of our medical records to them. P&G, and Menu Foods, on the other hand, have been close to useless.
Wheat gluten is in just about everything. It’s why Celiac Disease people have a hard time making up a diet. Go ahead any join them in the frustration!
a good substitute for soy sauce is Dr. Bragg’s Liquid Aminos, sold in health food stores. It tastes exactly like soy sauce but lighter in flavor.

At this point a list of NON contaminated foods would be shorter. I can't keep track!
Here's some information about 'safe' foods, etc.
We asked both the FDA and the American Veterinary Medical Association how pet owners can protect their animals. Here are the guidelines they recommend:
• Check pet food ingredients. Animal protein such as chicken, beef or fish should be among the first ingredients listed.
• Stay away from products that list vegetable, wheat or grain, or animal byproducts in the top ingredients.
• Make sure your pet food has an expiration date and contact information on the label.
• If your pet appears sick, take it to the veterinarian immediately.

Not necessarily true at all.... a lot of people on Pet COnnection are reporting problems with kibble... switch your pet to a biologically correct grain free diet and you are safer since it should not contain wheat of any kind.
Yes, it was all over our local news — but even if it wasn’t Ole Roy anything is crap and isn’t good enough for any of our pets.
yes... a woman who’s dog was refusing to eat so she was eating the food to get her dog to eat and they both got sick... the dog died.

I did read last week that the FDA has the CDC on alert for kidney failure in humans.

I wonder if the wheat gluten that was imported for the pet food had any inspection at all. If it was for human consumption, would there have been an inspection? Is Chinese wheat gluten that much cheaper? Do we import any foodstuffs from China? If so, why?

Since we stopped giving our dog canned food he is playing more and is very active for an 11 year old poodle mutt. We give him cooked ground beef and chicken over his dry food,(Kibbles and Bits select,not on the list)Also we stopped giving him those bacon looking dog treats.
For treats I give my dogs tiny bits of cheese. They will do ANYTHING for cheese.

How recently were your bottles purchased? My are West Coast purchased within 4 months.
Oh and thanks for the watering down tip. I may have to brew my own if they get funny on us and bring components in from China.
Mine, too. Also for brewers yeast, that I put in the doggie biscuits. They think it's candy, and to me it tastes awful.

Humans and dogs certainly have different taste buds. When my dogs refuse to come in the house for cheese I know they are in the yard eating rabbit droppings.
