Not against Thompson but all other candidates are being criticized for what they eat for breakfast and all kinds of other trivia - I mean they can be 80% plus acceptable to the complainer and if they aren't 100% it gets posted here.

This will need to be addressed eventually - have been waiting but haven't seen the usual outraged threads about Thompson marrying a woman 30 years younger a few years ago and they now have a very young child.

You know they will use this against him - how irresponsible to have a child you probably won't raise yada, yada - look how we had to read what a terrible parent Rudy was and on and on.

So, Fred Thompson defenders prepare yourselves.

People get rather annoyed when Fred (or anyone) is compared to Reagan. After all, there was only one Reagan.

Yes, that's true. However, no potential 2008 candidate better captures Reagan's personable appeal, common-sense, kick-ass-and-be-a-nice-guy-doing-it sensibility, along with the right balance of fiscal, economic, foreign policy, and social conservatism than Fred Thompson.

I've done some digging into Fred's record. What I found has convinced me that he is absolutely fiscally conservative enough for me (I'm a small-l, small government person). In addition, he has been talking about restoring the proper balance between federal and state powers since the 90s, so the federalism talk is not a convenient pre-election stance. It's frankly apalling that more candidates are not talking about Constitutional principles.

As of now, Fred is tentatively number one for me, with Romney number two if Fred doesn't run.

I'd like to see Fred on the bandwagon before I board. Also, I think you Fredders are overlooking one very serious possibility: it's hard to enlist a happy man in government service.
Fred looks pretty happy at this point. Why would he jumble it up with a run for the presidency, and all that entails? Would you? Not me!
I've got a few other reservations---for example, the quality of political consultants he'd rely on---but he hasn't even said yes, as yet.
