Here are a couple more pictures taken on the 17th.

I had to get this picture of the Aussie and American flags together, one of our true friends.

It's like Woodstock in that one will never be able to re-enact this kind of thing.

I joked to a few folks that it was like Woodstock... but I was talking about all the mud. I am so glad I wore my boots!

Just walked in the door from the long drive back from DC. All I can say is that it was a GREAT DAY TO BE AN AMERICAN!! It was absolutely awesome! To stand shoulder to shoulder with some of THE BEST people of this country(and there were thousands!) was an honor we will never forget.

We can't wait for the next one!

One thing that just occurred to me. I've never felt so safe and at ease around a crowd as large as that, ever.

You ain't lying! I even let my daughter get right in the middle of it all to take some pictures for a class project. I knew she was in good hands, best ever!

Haven't read all this thread; this my first posting since back from DC. I bought the Washington Times and the Sun. At the end of one of their articles about the march, (can't remember which)they said the anti-war marchers were met at the end of the Arlington Bridge with a huge sign saying "Go to hell traitors!" WAY TO GO TEAM!

Let's give it up for this lady who marched in SF today, it appears. brave lady This is what was said of her over on the enemy web sites:
This lady marched down the street and would not stop for anyone to take photos or even to speak to news reporters. I suppose her statement is clear. Why don't more pro peace people carry the American flag? Why only pro war people who carry the flag? Couldn't the stigma attatched to it be redefined? It means different things to different people. It doesn't have to mean a history of genocide and imperialism only. Couldn't it be reclaimed to represent equality?

You were missed, m!

I am so sorry you are under the weather. I was sort of under house arrest myself.

Perhaps it was the Lord's way of keeping the Libs safe (from us)?

Hope you are feeling better.

In the San Francisco Chronicle, of all places ...

War supporters take message to Washington

Mark Crowley of San Ramon is on his way to the White House this week to mark the fourth anniversary of the war in Iraq. He plans to unfurl a flag on the Mall and wave it with pride.

"My son did not die in vain," said Crowley, who left San Francisco last week with the Move America Forward caravan headed for Washington to provide a counterpoint to the big anti-war protests planned for today. At a time when polls are showing a nation turning against its president, and congressional lawmakers are getting louder in their demands for troop withdrawal, war supporters living in the Bay Area are working harder than ever to get their message out.

The Sacramento nonprofit Move For America is on a whistle-stop tour of the country, spreading support for President Bush and his military strategy. They plan to turn the Capitol Mall in Washington into a "flag city" today, in a show of red-white-and-blue opposition to the anti-war rallies that are planned for the same day.

Crowley, reached by phone in the caravan, said he feels increasing support the more miles he puts between himself and the Bay Area.

"The way I see it, there are two ways of handling this situation in Iraq," Crowley said. "Stand still and die, or take the first shot. Terrorists will come here if we don't stop them there."

His 18-year-old son, Marine Lance Cpl. Kyle Crowley, was ambushed by gunmen near Ramadi in 2003, when he rushed to the aid of soldiers who were under sniper fire.

Losing a child has turned some parents into ardent anti-war activists, but for Crowley it has convinced him even more that the United States needs to contain religious extremism from claiming more American troops.

"I just wish I could touch him one more time, grab him around the neck and give him a headlock and say 'I'm sorry. Let's go fishing,' " Crowley said. ...

Another excerpt from the same article ...

"I don't put much stock in polls," said Debbie Argel-Bastian of Lompoc (Santa Barbara County), another parent on the Move America Forward caravan who lost a child in Iraq.

Her son, 28-year-old Air Force Capt. Derek Argel, died when the small Iraqi plane he was in went down near Viyala on Memorial Day 2005.

A few months later, Argel-Bastian toured Iraq, and found a different image than the carnage she saw on TV.

"I saw construction, schools without indoctrination, murals preaching tolerance for all faiths," she said. "A woman I met there just called me; she was excited and she told me she is now able to go out of the house, and her kids are in school. That's a product of our troops."

Crowley and Argel-Bastian said they are getting enthusiastic support at each of the caravan's rally stops. ...

I have trained myself to say "how do you feel about..." when I am talking to a liberal. They can answer that type of question, keeping a dialogue open, much better than a "what do you think about..." which they hear as an attack on their 'sensibilities' for the poor or the planet or whatever feelgood cause.

Your comments reminded me of one of my favorite songs;

Thick as a brick. (part 1)
by Jethro Tull

Really don't mind if you sit this one out.
My words but a whisper your deafness a SHOUT.
I may make you feel but I can't make you think.
Your sperm's in the gutter your love's in the sink.
So you ride yourselves over the fields and
you make all your animal deals and
your wise men don't know how it feels to be thick as a
brick.

And the sand-castle virtues are all swept away
in the tidal destruction the moral melee.
The elastic retreat rings the close of play
as the last wave uncovers the newfangled way.
But your new shoes are worn at the heels
and your suntan does rapidly peel
and your wise men don't know how it feels
to be thick as a brick.
