"A house divided against itself cannot stand."

And when you see people here getting positively giddy over the fact that the media's sliming of Speaker Gingrich during the Clinton years has stuck, you know the house is crumbling.

I also believe that abortion is at the heart of it. I know it is. Nothing else can explain the utter contempt we're seeing towards conservatives. Nothing else can explain why they're so anxious, excited even, to jettison the support of the right to win favor among the left.

Only something as sinister as abortion can do this to the party of Reagan and Lincoln. If this movement isn't successfully defeated, the party will be riding shotgun with the country into a new dark age.

he didn't outlaw guns for law abiding citizens. the fact is that NYC was awash in thousands upon thousands of illegal guns and all the drug dealers and gang bangers and criminals all had huge arsenals that would come in from out of state and out of the city and would fuel the crime.

If you were the average guy in New York and you got your guns legally and obeyed the law, you were fine. I knew some people in NY that had guns while Rudy was the Mayor and not one of them had any of them taken away.

he's also said that the gun laws for a city like NY that was full of criminals and loads of illegal weapons neddn't be the same for other cities or rural areas or other states or what have you.

keep in mind that the 2nd amendment only applies to the federal govt and even on the statelevel most 2nd amendment scholars cocede that it leaves room for regulation as opposed to restriction and that it isn't a grant of an unfettered ability to arm yourself in whatever manner you want.

In any event, the gun control issue has largely disappeared from the federal level and I doubt Rudy is that stupid of a politician to try and revive it, especially since it goes against what would make up his base.

Isn't it true that Rudy enforced existing laws to cut back on crime?

Rudy appointing strict constructionists is a lot of hogwash.

Rudy claims that the government has the power to regulate guns (ban handguns, ban "assault" rifles, register gun owners, restrict the ability to own/transport guns, etc) as long as it's done "consistent" with the second amendment.

He claims that a woman has a constitutional right to choose. He says Roe vs Wade is settled law. He admires Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

In other words, he believes gun grabbing abortionist judges are strict constructionists. He twists the constitution to justify his liberal views. He would appoint strict constructionists just like Hillary Clinton believes she appoints strict constructionists.

When you believe in a constitutional right to abortion, constitutional right to gay marriage, constitutional power to infringe on the peoples right to keep and bear arms, then the judges you appoint to uphold this warped interpretation of the constitution are in his mind "strict constructionists."

No thanks to that garbage.

I think Huckabee will be Rudy's VP choice if he gets nominated in order to court southern voters and religious conservatives.

This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

If a democrat controlled congress passes more anti-gun laws, will Rudy sign or veto them?

I have always been suspect of these freepers and their true colors are now obviously showing.

Abortion is evil. We cannot survive as a party that is half for and half against evil.

and those of us who truly believe it is evil could never join with it, much less promote it.

We always seem to be faced with the choice of voting for the lesser of two evils come the general election for president.

However, many in the GOP seem hell-bent on closing the gap this election.

Nice story -- your ex was really a gun-carrying actress in NYC? Don't see many of them.

Thanks! I had not seen that one. Just from reading the posts here--not from TV (which I don't watch) or newspapers (which I loathe)--I have the sense that pro-lifers and social conservatives generally are going to be floundering around without a political party in the very near future.

I turned off Hannity's radio program when he started explaining that abortion isn't important, and I turned off the Rush substitute (Hedgecock?) when he spouted the same line. I would hate to stop reading FreeRepublic too. But I wish this crew would go found a forum of their own to push the Rudy gospel. FreeAbortions.com would sum it up pretty well.

Although Rudy, unlike McCain, doesn't have a record of stabbing the party in the back and sucking up to the media to push his "maverick" status.

This is another reason I favor Rudy -- he's more trustworthy and more of a team captain than McCain.

This evening I went to the "home and school" meeting at my daughter's elementary school. It's called that and not PTA because the national PTA is run by libs who want pre-K kids to have sex education labs. It's the same with so many other institutions that once seemed part of the American bedrock. I mean, look at the Episcopal Church. Their leader looks like the Queen of Hearts! We already gave these people the Democrat Party. Why must they take the GOP as well???
