"Al Qaeda: 'We will cleanse the Arabian Gulf of the presence of crusaders'
Also known as the Persian Gulf. "Al Qaeda plans 'major operations' in the Gulf," from AFP"
DUBAI -
Did you see this one Cindy?
Snip: Let us discuss the trials and tribulations of those of us suffering with excess weight. Last month reports revealed that six people in Iceland had been hospitalized between 1999 and 2006 with hepatitis allegedly caused by Herbalife products they were taking. (According to reports on mbl.is from January 13 and 15, 2007, doctors said they suspected poisonous herbs in Herbalife products, which the patients had consumed, may had caused the hepatitis.)
Well, welcome to the Herbal Hepatitis Club. Next time you want to lose weight, and rather than doing it the old-fashioned way (eat less, exercise more) youd prefer to pop pills, check out a paper presented at Digestive Diseases Week 2006 (DDW is the world's largest gathering of physicians and researchers in the fields of gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy and gastrointestinal surgery) on the subject of Herbalife products and necrosis of the liver.
No, I hadn't seen that.
Well, I keep my treadmill well dusted, and I'm sure that eats a few calories away.
Wow, that's a frightening scenario if I ever saw one. Thanks for posting this info Oorang. It goes to show how alert our troops are in checking out their surroundings and how skillfully they tracked them to the warehouse.
Snip: Red-faced officials at Canada's nuclear safety watchdog on Thursday said they were probing how a hacker had managed to litter its official Web site with dozens of colour photographs of a nuclear explosion. The Ottawa Citizen newspaper said every media release on the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission's Web site had been labelled as a security breach on Wednesday. When opened, each document had a headline reading "For immediate release" and underneath was a large photo of an exploding atomic bomb.
Snip: The list of targeted gangs includes the 204th Street gang in Harbor Gateway, which is believed to be responsible for recent racially motivated attacks and will be the subject of a special abatement effort. The list also includes Canoga Park Alabama, whose members' recent violent acts have contributed to gang crime skyrocketing 43% in the San Fernando Valley.
The other gangs on the list include 18th Street Westside in the LAPD's Southeast Division; the Avenues gang in the Northeast Division; the Grape Street Crips in the Southeast Division; Black P-Stones in the Southwest Division; the La Mirada Locos in the Rampart and Northeast divisions; the Mara Salvatrucha in the Rampart, Hollywood and Wilshire divisions; the Rollin' 40s and Rollin' 30s Harlem Crips, both in Southwest, and the Rollin' 60s in the 77th Street Division.
The Mara Salvatrucha gang has up to 50,000 members in six countries, but police will focus on cliques that operate in a few local high-crime neighborhoods.

Snip: An Islamic school in London has announced it is removing offensive chapters from its textbooks which describe Jews as "monkeys" and Christians as "pigs".
The head of the Saudi-funded King Fahad Academy in west London had faced increasing scrutiny from the UK media over the issue this week.
Islamic Jihad updates rocket launchers
Snip: The new launcher, developed by Islamic Jihad, can fire up to six rockets at a time, the group said. Previous launchers had been able to only fire single missiles.
The group said it used the new launcher to send 10 of its homemade rockets toward the Sufa cargo crossing on the Israel-Gaza border.
Removing hateful propaganda is always a good start to factual learning.
Thanks for the good news update on the textbooks, MamaDearest.

VANCOUVER - A security incident at Vancouver International Airport late Wednesday has disrupted two departing flights.
One Toronto-bound Air Canada flight was cancelled and a Montreal-bound flight was delayed by about 1 1/2 hours. The nature of the security breach was not immediately known. But a passenger on board the cancelled flight says a man was escorted off the plane by RCMP officers as it sat on the tarmac.
The remaining passengers were then instructed to disembark and told they would have to stay the night. Angela Mah, an Air Canada spokesperson, says that since the incident happened late at night, no more outbound flights were expected to be affected.

Ammo Scare At JFK
February 8, 2007
A loaded ammo clip was found aboard an American Airlines jet that had just arrived at Kennedy Airport from the Dominican Republic, and now cops are trying to find its owner. The bullets were discovered in a seat-back pocket at about 10:30 p.m. Jan. 29 by a worker cleaning the jet after its flight from Santo Domingo, authorities said yesterday.
The plane, which had arrived at Kennedy about two hours earlier, also visited Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico, that day. But because the jet had been cleaned on its last stop in Santo Domingo, detectives are checking over the manifest from that flight, said a Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman.
Twenty-six 9mm bullets were loaded into the clip, which a law-enforcement source said was from a Glock pistol. Glocks are widely used in law enforcement, but investigators don't believe the clip belonged to a sky marshal or other law officer, said a source.
Officials weren't sure on what kind of plane the bullets were found. American usually flies the route with Airbus A300s, which can carry 267 passengers. The clip was found in a window seat on the right side of the jet, over the wing, said the law-enforcement source. "This is a serious breach of security," the source said. "If they can get the bullets on, they can get the gun on, too."
If the bullets got aboard the plane in Santo Domingo, they should have been found by the Dominican Republic's airport screeners, who are controlled by the country's military. But the source said it's possible the bullets got aboard the plane at one of its other stops that day.

FBI Looking for Suspect who Flashed Laser at Incoming Planes (Utah)
February 7th, 2007
Federal Agents want to track down a person who interfered with flights landing at Salt Lake International Airport. The FBI reports that someone flashed a laser in the cockpits of planes.
This kind of crime first surfaced a couple of years ago at the airport. In each of the last two nights, someone with a green laser tagged planes on approach. Federal investigators do not consider it a prank to shine a laser at an airborne plane or helicopter. Patrick Kiernan, FBI: "Any time you do something to incapacitate a pilot with his vision as he approaches an airport, it is a very serious matter."

PEARBLOSSOM - Three pipe bombs were found near a valve in a portion of the California Aqueduct that was partially drained to check for submerged objects, officials said. The bombs were among numerous items found Tuesday during an inspection, which also yielded 25 vehicles and at least four weapons, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Fernando Contreras said.
"The pipe bombs were found by a check valve, so we don't know if those were left there intentionally," he said. "If the bombs went off, it could release the valve and open it and release water."

Pak airports on high alert
Thursday, February 08, 2007
Islamabad - With the sudden spurt in suicide attacks by militants in Pakistan, diplomats have been asked to limit their movement following intelligence agency warning of more strikes aimed at high-value targets. Pakistan has also put its airports, including Lahore and Karachi on high alert a day after a suicide attack on Islamabad airport killed one and injured several securitymen.
Diplomats in Karachi and Islamabad are not being allowed to move out of the specified areas where they live, the Daily Times today reported citing intelligence sources. The militants have planned to target hotels and buildings commonly used by VIPs in retaliation for military operations in Pakistans restive South Waziristan.
According to another intelligence report, the police are on the lookout for some militants who have moved into Rawalpindi with explosive material. Apart from the airport, security at all sensitive spots and foreign missions in the city has been beefed up, CCPO Azhar Ali Farooqui told the daily.

LONDON -- A man was Thursday being questioned by detectives after they found chemicals at a home that could be mixed to form a bomb, police said. The man, 29, was arrested late last night under the UK Explosives Act.
He has not been identified and the police are not linking him at this stage to the letter-bombing campaign that has seen home-made bombs in A5-size padded bags posted to seven different businesses across Britain since January 18.
The man was arrested at an address in Hayle, Cornwall, south-west England, and is in custody in a police station in the area. A police spokesman said "This arrest is not believed to be linked to the current sequence of explosions in other parts of the country." "Found at the address were composite chemicals which, when mixed together, formed explosives, together with magnesium ribbon and igniter cord," he added.

Riyadh, 8 Feb. 2007 - After more than a year's absence, the jihadi propaganda monthly "Voice of Jihad" (Sawt-al-Jihad), edited by the Saudi cell of the al-Qaeda terrorist network, has reappeared on the Internet.
The new issue - the 30th - opens with an editorial threatening the Saudi regime and welcoming the birth of "an Islamic emirate" in Iraq by local al-Qaeda cells. "Voice of Jihad" was launched in 2003 covering mainly ideological and doctrinal issues concerning the mujahadeen in the Arabian Peninsula.
"As for us, we have begun a new year and we ask Allah that it be a year of victory," reads the editorial. For some time now we have been preparing important operations which will make the crusader (i.e. American) bases on the Arab peninsula tremble and the aim of the mujahadeen will be to cleanse the peninsula of the pagans and the crusader bases" - a reference to US military posts in the region.
The editorial concludes with a message to the leader of al-Qaeda, Osama bin Laden. We say to our emir, Sheikh Osama bin Laden, that we will continue on his path. Your soldiers are working, planning and preparing something which will make him and all true believers very happy. We pray to Allah that all will go well until the arrival of zero hour," it added.
The magazine also carries a claim of responsibility for an attack by Islamist terrorists against a Saudi oil refinery at Baqiq, on 24 February 2006.
It concludes with an interview with a doctor of Moroccan origin living in France, who in the 1990s decided to fight alongside the Bosnian mujahadeen, and a corner dedicated to readers, who are invited to write to the jihadi publication on the site http://contactus.arabform.com

Saudi Al Qaeda: New Attacks Will 'Shake Crusader's Pillars'
February 08, 2007 1:43 PM
Saudi militants associated with al Qaeda say they're planning major attacks against Western interests in the Saudi Kingdom. "We have -- for some time -- been preparing for specific operations that will shake the crusader's pillars in the Arab's Peninsula." The threat came in the introduction to an online magazine produced by the Saudi al Qaeda group and published on militant Islamist Internet forums.
Addressing al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, a member of the group called Mohammed bin Abdallah al Nasser says, "Your soldiers in the Arab's Peninsula are working, planning and preparing for what will make you and the faithful rejoice -- God willing. We ask God to facilitate things for us until the zero hour comes."
The magazine, "The Voice of the Jihad," was being published on a regular basis a few years ago when the Saudi militant group was active in the kingdom, where it carried a number of attacks against residential compounds and oil facilities.
A heavy crackdown by the government, however, led to the killing and capture of many of the group's leaders and members and greatly weakened it. "They are on the run; we are going after them. We have been very successful in going after their leaders and their funding, and now we're after the ideology," the director of information at the Saudi embassy in Washington, D.C., Nail al-Jubeir told ABC News.
